  • "Beautiful location, and the accommodation looked amazing."

We were a bit disappointed with the cleanliness, a proper clean was desperately needed (dead spiders on the walls, build up of dirt in corners) it just felt a bit grubby. Outside area was nice but again needed attention. Only one of our showers was hot (an issue with no hot water at all was fixed but not totally) and we had a few issues with the hot tub temperature and couldn’t use it for a couple of days as was far too hot one day and too cold the next! All in all a lovely stay but a bit of time needs to be spent to really make this lovely place have the 5* factor it deserves.

I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay Lucy, but very disappointed that you found issues with the cleanliness of the lodge and the temperature of the water in the shower and hot tub. These problems should have been rectified before your stay, so I apologise most sincerely. I hope that they will not stop you from coming to stay with us again in the future. The lodge was lovely - clean, spacious and everything we needed. The hot tub was amazing and maintained throughout our stay. We had an issue with the boiler not working when we arrived but after popping down to customer services they told us how to rectify it (it was now ‘after office hours’) and after a double check on YouTube my hubby sorted it! Only recommendation would be to supply plastic glasses for use in the hot tub for safety reasons and possibly a bigger clothes airer for drying washing! Thank you for a lovely stay!

We so appreciate you taking the time to leave us your fantastic feedback Sarah. I am delighted to hear that you had an enjoyable stay at 8 Lake View and loved your lodge and hot tub. I apologise again for the boiler issue, but happily the problem was sorted quickly! Thank you also for your suggestions, I have passed these to the relevant team to follow up. • "In both bedrooms all the pillows were appalling, flat as pancakes, they could do with being replaced."

The mattresses on the twin beds were uncomfortable and could do with being replaced too. On Monday the central heating and walk in shower (en suite room) had to be fixed by the maintenance team and by Thursday evening the boiler developed a fault so we had no running hot water or heating. The Wi-Fi kept dropping in and out all week.

I am so sorry to hear that you had several issues whilst you were staying with us Paul. Thank you so much for leaving us your feedback. We have recently ordered new pillows and duvet covers for all our lodges, so these will be replaced as soon as we receive them. I have passed on your comments regarding the twin mattresses to our housekeeping team so that this can be addressed. My sincere apologies for your problems with the central heating, shower and boiler. Our maintenance team endeavoured to repair the issues with the central heating and shower as soon as they occurred. Unfortunately, not all faults can be rectified by our onsite staff and the boiler issue would have been dealt with by one of our contractors, so I am very sorry that this was not dealt with expeditiously. I hope that despite these issues you will come back and stay with us again as we do value your patronage. Sally, Guest Services, Charteroak Property Owner

The cabin was amazing, very comfortable and had everything we needed - a few areas (behind blinds) could do with a bit more attention during cleaning. The location is secluded and it was so great to be somewhere with no light pollution. The cabins themselves are spaced a good distance apart, meaning you don't really hear anyone. It's a lovely lodge in a fantastic location. Hot tub was a great extra. A nice welcome pack on arrival, including Cornish milk in the fridge. The lodge was very well laid out, with a large kichen/diner/lounge. Only disappointment were the mattresses. They were basic open coil, with little support (maybe upgrade to pocket sprung?) as everything else was such high quality, these did stand out. Restaurant had a limited selection, but all of it was absolutely delicious! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, a fab break away and we would definitely return.

The extractor fan in the en-suite was not working and the handle on the door in the twin room was wobbly. Whilst the lodge was generally clean there was still a lot of dust on the floor and stains on the counter surfaces. The lodge itself is wonderful and the hot tub was fantastic. It was suitable for a toddler too which was great but could do with some greater upkeep. To also note it was very difficult to get in contact with the Old Mill/Reception and they didn’t seem very helpful once I was able to get in touch. The restaurant menu as advertised in the lodge was not the same as when we ate there with the food being nice but very average. Whilst take away services are advertised it was not available if the restaurant has bookings which seemed odd to advertised the facility given the restaurant only opened a few nights a week. We did enjoy our stay.

Location great for easy access to Looe/Polperro area accessed via narrow steep lane. A bit scary when you meet one of the service vehicles coming the other way. Fairly isolated and wonderfully peaceful, just what we were looking for. Only one small niggle concerns the king size bed in main bedroom. The mattress needs renewing. It was also fitted with a double mattress protector which doesn’t fit the king size mattress and kept “riding up” as a result. Otherwise quality of fittings excellent and spotlessly clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Food in the Old Mill great quality and good value, very welcoming. It has unfortunately been affected in the score I gave, not only for Sykes, as I made you aware on our first night of the problems in the automatic form that you send, and no one has been in touch to see if things were resolved which essentially means this is probably a pointless exercise that no one will read either. Site is lovely and secluded with great views. No phone signal at all but our lodge had good WiFi connection. Hot tub was fab! Food was great in Old Mill. Only negative would be how we were made to feel upon arrival. On all Sykes paperwork it says 3pm but the site say 4pm. We arrived about 2.30, went to reception thinking we could have a drink whilst waiting. The reception we got wasn’t great - we were told we were very early, check in was 4pm - when I explained the email said 3pm - she just said ‘well it’s wrong, it’s 4pm!’ Also, I had booked a table in the restaurant for the first evening - it had taken me three emails beforehand but had received one back saying we were booked in! The receptionist checked and said we weren’t booked in - I showed her the email, she looked again and said we had been booked in the following night but she would try and move the booking. There was no apology that it was their error, we felt like we were at fault! As it happened, the lodge was ready for us to go in straightway - it was beautiful. The meal in The Old Mill was fabulous and drinks reasonably priced - would definitely recommend it! Reception just needed to be bit warmer!

  • "We stayed in lake view 8 at stone rush valley."

Firstly, if you simply type in the postcode in Sat nav, it will take you to a wrong place. So advice is to watch out for signs that show stone rush valley. It wasn't actually clear during the booking process that lake view 8 is part of stone rush valley so this could be made clearer on the website. Once arrived, the reception was welcoming but not much info was given. Most of the info is within the folder in the lodge. The lodge itself was amazing, everything was near brand new and clean. The grounds it was situated in was picturesque and very quiet. The only reason I didn't give full marks was due to tiny areas where it could be improved. For the amount of money, it would be good to have more than a single toilet roll for each toilet and one single bin bag. A larger drying rack could help as it meant we could only wash limited amount of stuff every wash due to the rain so we couldn't improvise with the patio chairs/table etc. The biggest issue was probably the main bedrooms bed. It was a bit lumpy and can feel the springs. It wasn't the worse bed I've slept on but was a bit uncomfortable. The other main issue was the fact that there were no mobile reception for three different networks and therefore the contact details for help and maintenance issue (which we had) was very difficult to get hold of. Luckily one number was a mobile and ended up whatsapping a guy which seemed unprofessional. A landline or some concierge landline would be very useful. The final criticism is the restaurant, the food itself was fine but the menu in the welcome pack was out of date and showed lovely flavour ice creams but was informed during the meal that there's no ice cream and other things were also missing which we were looking forward to. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, the grounds were lovely, the hot tub was nice and private. The lodge and it's facilities were good and would definitely recommend.

About the location

LANREATH

Pelynt 2 miles; Looe 5 miles; Polperro 6 miles.

Lanreath is a village in southeast Cornwall, five miles west of Looe. Lanreath is rural in character with a local shop and Post Office as well as a parish church. There are a number of ghost stories associated with Lanreath. The best-known features a ghost in black driving a coach pulled by a headless horse. Nearby Pelynt is home to a parish church, a number of local shops and pubs, especially the Jubilee Inn, which was an original farmhouse dating back to the 16th Century. Looe is Cornwall’s second largest fishing port and hence there is always a lively maritime bustle around the quay area of East Looe, which is connected to the quieter West Looe by a seven arched 19th century bridge over the River Looe. The sandy Looe beach adjoins the pier and is very popular with families because of its safe shallow swimming and vast expanse of sand. Polperro is a little further away and is a historic fishing village nestling at the head of a long valley leading down to the sea. With plenty of areas to visit, Lanreath is a quiet, pleasant place offering easy access to the coast, the moors, National Trust properties and Cornwall's famous gardens.
