“A beautiful, warm, clean and comfy home from home.”

We had originally booked for early April but had to defer due to Covid. We'd also booked for our daughter and family to join us but they were unable to due to illness (NOT Covid). We drove down to Cornwall in the pouring rain and I have to admit, I was anxious about what we'd find due to a review posted in August. However, the cottage is a beautiful old house, spotlessly clean, warm and very comfortable. The textiles and art work are stunning (with a nod to Charleston, the holiday home of the Bloomsbury Set). I have a bit of a phobia about other people's cushions, but these were all fresh and clean. The towels and bed linen all looked brand new and there was a note to say that things were swapped every week. There was everything you could need in the kitchen, including a honey drizzler! So, although we were rattling around on our own in a large cottage, we really enjoyed our stay and were able to relax and recharge after a stressful year.

The property

Set within easy reach of the Eden Project and South Cornwall's famous harbour towns and villages, is this quirky, but stylish former mine captains house.

Spacious both inside and out, the house has a wonderful kitchen/dining space separated from the pretty garden and deck by folding glass doors.

On the ground floor, there is a sitting room with a smart TV, a comfortable snug for grown ups to retreat to, followed by the bright and social kitchen with dining space.

A useful utility and downstairs wet room and loo are tucked away to the rear.

Upstairs, there are three decadent bedrooms with two having fabulous en-suite bathrooms and the third being a sizeable twin.

All in all, a superb family homestay with plenty of character and a fabulous feeling of light and space.

About the location

ST BLAZEY

Eden Project 1 mile; Charlestown 3 miles; St Austell 3 miles.

St Blazey is a small town situated three miles east of St Austell and was formerly an important engineering centre for the local mining and railway industries. The town is nowadays best known for being the closest to the Eden Project. Nearby Charlestown is a delightful and much sought after coastal village of stone cottages and regency houses. It is famous for its collection of tall ships riding at anchor in the harbour, the shipwreck museum, excellent pubs and restaurants and easy access to the coastal path. The old market town of St. Austell lies just a few miles from the south coast, and is famous for its China Clay mining history. Today, home to numerous beaches, (including dog-friendly Par Sands) and sub tropical gardens, it is a popular place for tourists, with plenty to see and do. A short drive will take you to fashionable Fowey or the fishing port of Mevagissey, and with lots to do, this is a great year round location.
