  • "Three days with no water,(was told to wait for the rain) told to buy bottled water."

The property was not cleaned, cobwebs everywhere, the floors had not been hoovered or washed. The en-suite was disgusting with black mould around the shower. The main bath leaked water everywhere which was dangerous. The heating system was faulty with electrics getting very hot. Locks and door handles not working properly. Had people in every day apart from one to try unsuccessfully fix things. Was not the beautiful peaceful holiday I expected by looking at the photos. Unsafe unsanitary and not fit for purpose. I will be contacting Cornwall council regarding the health and safety issues in respect of holiday let license.

Thank you for your feedback, having spoken with the owner he would like to report that the housekeeper attended immediately after you notified them that the kitchen tap was not working. A plumber attended and confirmed there had been an air lock problem which was soon rectified. The supply of water to both the bathroom and en-suite was in good order. The housekeeper attended to the cleanliness issues you reported the next day. A full clean of the house was carried out, no black mould was found in the bathroom. A plumber attended and found there to be no leaks, nor has any previous guest mentioned this. The owner refutes the claims for the heating system being faulty as well as locks and handles not operating correctly. He states the property has been fully inspected and signed off by external professionals (plumber and electrician). The heating system was only upgraded a year ago. The housekeeper also provided bottled water whilst the kitchen tap was rectified and you were reimbursed for the bottles you had purchased. We want all our guests to have the best holiday experience and whilst we did everything we could during your stay we are sorry to hear that was not the case for you. The issues you raise are in stark contrast to previous positive reviews. Property Owner

  • "Cottage itself is reasonably nice and cosy, but that where it all stops."

Location could be, on average cases, the worst I can think of amongst 50+ cottages I've stayed at in the UK, not even convenient for jogging without driving out for about 10 mins. "Leave the cottage how you find it" is the owner's requirement which is up for the owner/management company to interpret. On the morning of departure we three adults spent nearly a full hour cleaning the cottage and followed all instructions we could find and put bed linen away as required, and ended up being charged £50 due to kitchen sink and floor not as clean as they were on our arrival...Btw no waste bin was found despite being described in the 'user manual' aka 'welcome' pack. I understand the owner's desire to keep maintenance cost as low as possible, as probably few management companies are willing to drive to such a location, hence they likely will charge extra fees, but this level of service wouldn't make me comfortable to recommend this cottage.

Thank you for your feedback, having spoken with the owner he would like to respond that the location is part of the charm of this cottage, as verified by previous guests and stated on the booking site. He was sorry that this was not exactly what you may have been looking looking for! The cottage was professionally cleaned and then checked & verified by our housekeeper prior to your arrival. It was reported that following your departure the professional cleaners charged for extra time spent on cleaning up the sink, draining board and oven which had been left in an unsatisfactory dirty state, along with significant remains of egg shells over the floor & mats.We can confirm that the waste bin is easily accessible on site and can only apologise if you missed this. • "We loved our stay at 2 Pencoose Barns."

The house was beautiful and in a wonderful location. We really appreciated the welcome pack. It was unclear where to leave the bin bags - the neighbours allowed us to use their bag in the top field. There was no equipment to clean the house - brush, hoover etc. We would definitely return for another visit

  • "Great property - beautiful location and good use of space for a barn conversion."

Well equipped and the welcome cream tea, wine and dog biscuits was a really nice touch. Only issue we had was that the outside bin was missing - which was sorted out for us immediately. Overall excellent!

  • "Great cottage."

Couple of small details to make better. No BBQ as advertised. No place to put rubbish bags once full. Directions to property could be better. Radiators in bathrooms could not be turned off/down. Minor details. Would highly recommend and in fantastic location. Thanks for a great stay and would come again.

We are pleased to hear you had a great stay. The phone number of the 24 hr. local caretaker is on the kitchen notice board as well as in the "Welcome Book". It is clearly noted to please call for "Any issues big or small" we would have let you know where the BBQ was located along with the large outside bin. Also, the radiators can all be individually adjusted, although all set to a central controlled temperature. Thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "We had a fantastic 4 night stay which was booked very last minute - the lady who took the booking at Sykes Cottages was absolutely brilliant!"

2 Pencoose Barns was a fantastic cottage - exactly what we needed and the remote setting and views were stunning. SATNAV was a bit awry but we got there in the end although this would have been trickier to find in the dark! The facilities were great and the space was just perfect - better than expected. One bit of feedback as an observation was that the hot water was scalding so care required when washing hands and showering but apart from that a great experience and an amazing base to explore Cornwall - which we did and we were exceptionally lucky with glorious sunshine for the duration - would definitely book again :)
