  • "Our week away at the Ayr Cottage was perfect."

A beautiful cottage placed outside Tintagel a 6min walk or an 2 hour coastal walk to get to the castle. Parking space outside and a lovely garden to sit in as well. Everything was available at the cottage from a coffee machine, milk frother to a spatula in the kitchen! They even supplied a hair dryer but I bought my own as I know it is not a hotel. The main bed is really comfortable. Beautiful cottage that has 1475 in the stone on top of the stairs is a lovely touch.

  • "Very disappointed."

I booked this cottage for our 48th anniversary. The first thing to greet us was a completely crushed packet of biscuits. We assumed this was our welcome pack. It made us feel the exact opposite. Upstairs the bath had nail varnish stains on it. In the lounge the log burner was full of ashes and there was no firewood. My wife didn’t want me to but I phoned the owner and left a message. She did call me back much later the same day but I wasn’t able to answer as I couldn’t express my feelings in front of my wife. I sent the owner an email. She replied saying her cleaner had never done a “changeover” before and she was sorry and it wouldn’t happen again! I gave up after that. My wife spent 30 minutes removing the stains, much against my wishes. The radiator in the lounge doesn’t work therefore firewood is essential but the owner expects the customer to buy their own. The kitchen was clean apart from two cups that had been in the dishwasher but still had sugar in the bottom. The rest of the cottage had cobwebs everywhere. We were left 2 toilet rolls for the week in a 3 bedroom house? I have never complained to Sykes before after approximately 20 bookings. This will be the first. In summary the cottage could be great without the cobwebs and with an owner and or cleaner that was remotely interested in providing a good experience for their customers.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We’re sorry that the cleanliness of the property was not up to the usual high standards we maintain (as seen in our previous feedback). Unfortunately, on the week of your booking our housekeeper became unwell and was unable to carry out the changeover so had to get someone who was unfamiliar with the property to complete the cleaning. Als the property is self-catering, we only provide 2 toilet rolls as a starter for our guests. If when we spoke on the phone you had asked for a reclean of the property, we would have been more than happy to help in any way we can. Property Owner

  • "We were a bit surprised that there wasn't a hairdryer within the cottage."

But other than that the cottage was lovely, such thick walls and old features made it very cosy despite the wind and rain at times. Being so close to the coastal path was great, the short stroll to Tintagel meant we kept returning mostly to partake of the local eateries and pubs. Everyone friendly, so all in all, a refreshing week.

Thank you for your feedback for Ayr Cottage. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. There is a hairdryer in the property, it is located in the drawers on the landing and we are sorry that you didn't find it. We hope to welcome you back to Ayr Cottage again in the future. • "We had a lovely stay at the cottage, the weather was with us most of the week too."

A great location for cycling, walking & nice beaches just a short drive away. The facilities in the cottage were great & we loved the Rayburn. We both felt very much at home there for the week & loved the location. We would definitely make a return visit in the future as we’re sure there’s much more to explore in the area.

  • "This is a gorgeous cottage in a lovely setting."

We loved the character of the house, the large rooms and the wood burner. A fab area to explore, Trebarwith Strand was our favourite beach and being on the coastal path was a big bonus. The Rayburn wasn’t working at first but there was lots of communication and it got fixed quickly. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

  • "Hello, I wanted to feedback on information about accessibility for people with limited mobility/ disabilities."

I did call up and ask about the amount of steps involved at the cottage. I was told of the steps at front door and 3 steps up to the downstairs toilet and utility as the pictures only showed the stairs inside the house. The steps to toilet were very steep and width and height of the steps were a challenge for all of us as no rail to hold onto. Stairs were very narrow which is fine but bannister stopped at the few last stairs so had to hold onto a loose rope on the other side.not easy for my elderly mum. My point is the details of cottage should include some more accessibility info as steps into garden too. Otherwise just perfect place to stay and would recommend.

  • "Ayr Cottage was just fantastic for our family stay."

The cottage had everything as listed as well as a few pleasant surprises. I had my kids aged 13 and 9 with me and they were delighted on finding a Nintendo Wii in the living room! The wood burning fire was beautiful and gave off great heat in the living room. The bedrooms were also specious and the beds extremely comfortable. If you are over 6 feet tall like myself you just need to take care when on the ground floor that you don't bump your head. Must also say the communication from both Jayne and Alice was absolutely first class. Will definitely be looking to return in the future.

  • "A perfect place to explore North Cornwall from."

A lovely old cottage, with all the amenities you would expect. The plumbing needs to be looked at, it's a shame you can only use one shower at a time! Also, as one reviewer has commented it is very musty, and even more so when it rains.

Many thanks for your feedback and we do all we can to maintain Ayr to modern standards, but with it dating back to the 1600's this can be a challenge at times! We will address the shower issue, thank you for alerting us to this. Property Owner

  • "Everything about our stay was perfect."

Bossiney is a very cute and quiet place and it is very good central point in order to explore Cornwall. Ayr Cottage is such a beautiful property. From the moment you pull up you realise you’re going to have a lovely stay here. The gardens are beautiful and the cottage itself is modern and spacious. Both the cottage and the gardens are fully equipped with everything you could possible need. We have a two year old and there is everything from cutlery/plates and a toy room with lots of toys for him. The garden has sun loungers and deck chairs as well as a top of the range Weber bbq! Overall we had an amazing family holiday and Ayr cottage certainly made that happen. We stayed with my partners parents and our son (5 in total) and there was more than enough room. I would highly recommend anyone with similar numbers or anyone looking to get away with friends or just a romantic getaway. We will certainly be booking back soon.

A great place to return to after a day exploring North Cornwall. Ayr cottage has been very well equipped with all mod cons. We particularly liked having the washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher. Everything was spotlessly clean with all Covid measures in place. Helpful housekeeper. Would definitely recommend this property.

  • "We loved Ayr Cottage."

It's the oldest property we've stayed in but certainly ranks amongst the most comfortable. It was well kitted-out throughout and the kitchen especially so. The one slight drawback is that the fridge is in the utility area up some very deep steps (my in laws found these rather challenging without a hand rail). The bedrooms are really comfortable and the showers are both great. The owner has lovely taste and I'm sure there is some of her handiwork around the place! The garden is delightful and we were lucky enough to have the weather to sit out in it ! We also loved the cottage's proximity to the coastal path - just cross the road and it's less than a 10 minute walk. You can stroll along to Tintagel or go the other way to Boscastle. It's really well situated for exploring the North Cornwall Coast by car too.

It had such a relaxing atmosphere, plenty of space for us to do our own thing or snuggle up together. It was great fun learning to cook with a Rayburn in the best equipped kitchen I've ever seen, and little extras like a Bluetooth speaker and Smart TV were the icing on the cake for rainy days. The secluded garden was also wonderful - just wish we had more sunny days to make more use of the BBQ!

The property

Ayr Cottage is situated in Bossiney, tucked along a hedgerow lane and surrounded by its pretty shrub-filled garden.

This lovely detached cottage is on two levels and has 16th cent.

origins and bags of character.

Thick knobbly walls, some door lintels a bit lower than average and beams reflect its history.

Step from the garden into the breakfast room and then through to the well equipped kitchen, which in turn leads you into the dining room - clearly the original part of the cottage, with a huge inglenook fireplace and wood-burning stove.

Under an archway there is a small sun room with comfy sofa and lots of games for little ones to occupy themselves.

The living room is surprisingly large, and this too has a big inglenook with a wood-burning stove – a lovely room to sit and relax after a bracing walk, or day on the beach.

At this level there is a large utility room with separate WC and a shower cubicle.

Head upstairs to three bedrooms – two double, one a king-size, and a bunk room with a washbasin, and the family bathroom.

Most of its enclosed walled garden is to the front, with level patio table/chairs, gas BBQ, little summer house and raised patio.

A ten minute walk takes you down to Bossiney Cove, or nip in the car and drive to nearby Trebarwith Strand or Crackington Haven – all lovely family beaches with good food pubs and cafes.

Or visit the legendary harbour of Boscastle and its numerous pubs and cafes.
