  • "Everything was perfect and any hiccups were dealt with promptly."

Also, thanks to the owner for allowing us extra time to vacate due to our age, mainly! We will be back, thank you.

  • "Lovely little shepherds hut - warm and cosy."

A few suggestions to make it even better - A wider shelf over the bed so clothing can fit better on it and some hooks around to hang things on, as storage is very limited. Also in very wet weather a little bit of an awning or shelter over the entrance door would help protect the door and inside getting wet when you open it.

  • "We absolutely loved the stay in the Poppy But it is in the perfect location to visit St."

Ives, Newquay and Falmouth being only a 30 minute drive from these towns. We also really enjoyed relaxing at Portreath beach which was a 5 minute drive from the site and spent most afternoons there. The Poppy Hut itself was a very nice and cozy place to relax. The shower was fantastic with great pressure and it got nice and hot. The bed was very comfortable and we slept so well at night. I enjoyed sitting outside the hut with a glass of wine in the evening and listening to the river. We would love to return again, possibly with family members and stay in one of the cottages.

  • "Excellently presented Shepherds Hut."

Tidy, clean, comfortable, homely, excellent designed layout. Insulated, quiet inside, heated, double glazed, secure. Good facilities in the smaller space afforded by a Shepherds Hut. Personal welcome by site manager was encouraging, positive and genuinely friendly. Full information for the stay was explained by the manager and any problems encountered assured to be sorted immediately should any problems occur. An excellently designed site, extremely tidy and well appointed, in a quiet location away from noise and road traffic. Very welcoming and friendly staff. I rarely return to the same holiday place but I would to River Barns. I commend the site and facilities, its' closeness to attractions and beaches in Cornwall and the friendliness and commitment of the staff to ensure a good stay.

It was a lot smaller than expected felt it was very overpriced for what it was and no cooking facilities really wouldn't book one of these shepherd's huts ever again

About the location

PORTREATH

Truro 14 miles; St Ives 15 miles.

With its sheltered harbour, beautiful Portreath was, in the 1800s, a hive of activity and industry as a major tin-exporting port. Today, the village attracts visitors from around the world with its wild and rugged coastline. High cliffs, secluded coves and sandy, surf-washed beaches typify the area while all around are reminders of the area's rich industrial heritage. Portreath offers a small fishing harbour, shops, a number of pubs, three cafés and a Chinese restaurant, while its safe, sheltered sandy beach is a popular attraction. For a great day out, visit the cathedral city of Truro with its cobbled streets, shopping centre, theatre, museum and great restaurants, just 14 miles away, or travel a few miles along the coast and follow the vast expanse of sandy beach, which leads down to Hayle and on to St Ives. A delightful holiday location.
