“It was a lovely location, house smelt a bit damp but was a good base for the week.”

Really struggled without a garden for the dogs and somewhere to dry clothes, especially after beach days out.

The property

Within the delightfully small town of Lostwithiel, which rests on the banks of the River Fowey, find this pretty white-washed end-terrace cottage, Harmony Cottage.

Enjoying a seaside-themed interior, this property would suit a small family looking to take in the best of Cornwall, both the picturesque coast and the vast moors.

From the quiet street, enter into the kitchen/diner, where the painted wood-panelled walls house a lovely spot to gather together, sit at the dining table with a board game from home while someone gets the tea started in the kitchen area, making use of the ample appliances.

Wind down into your evening by lighting the woodburning stove in the seaside themed sitting room, where a TV can provide the entertainment, or simply snuggle into the sofas and enjoy some quiet time with a book.

Head up the open-tread stairs to the first floor to find the bedrooms; a king-size and a twin room both enjoy blue and white painted walls and offer wardrobes for storage, as well as calming atmospheres for you to rest in.

This floor also holds the bathroom, where a bath with a shower over will freshen you up in the morning, preparing you for another day of adventure.

Head into Lostwithiel to discover the quaint shops and local businesses, take a stroll along the River Fowey, bordered by fields and woodland, it's a luscious environment to enjoy and great for walking the dog.

Visit Restormel Castle, which belongs to the Duchy of Cornwall, it was once the home of Normal lords who built the town.

You are positioned within easy reach by car of some wonderful coastal towns, around 5 miles away you can find the lovely Par Sands Beach and St Austell Bay, so you can have the quintessential Cornish experience with days spent on the beach, paddling in the sea or building sandcastles with the little ones.

About the location

Bodmin 5.5 miles; Fowey 7 miles.

A delightfully peaceful country town, nestling in the Fowey river valley amid the woods and fields that characterise the area. Renowned as a centre for the antiques trade, there are several shops and dealers in the town, as well as a fine collection of country pubs, restaurants and a thriving farmer’s market. Lanhydrock House (NT) and gardens is just 3 miles away, while the fabulous Boconnoc House, Eden Project, shipwreck museum and tall ships harbour at Charlestown, and the picturesque fishing villages of Mevagissey, Fowey and Padstow, with the famous Rick Stein restaurants, are all within easy driving distance. The tumbling Atlantic surf, long sandy beaches and dramatic coastline of the north coast, including at the renowned Newquay, make for great days out and there is also chance to enjoy river canoeing, biking, hiking and leisurely walks in this lovely area. The friendly locals also have ongoing activities, such as the raft race, the famous tug of war, Carnival week and seagull outboard motor races. The river Fowey runs from the town on its 8 mile journey through the fields and wooded valleys to the gentler southern coast, a natural paradise for those who love the sea. Centrally placed, with much to do and see in the immediate area, Lostwithiel is the perfect choice for those seeking a break away from the hectic pace of the tourist resorts.
