  • "We had a lovely stay at Appleloft, Vicky and Chris were amazing hosts and we felt like part of the family."

Vicky took our 6 year old to feed the animals whenever he wanted, also on the last day they surprised our little boy with a pony ride, he was so excited. The property was just what we wanted, clean, comfortable and really quiet and relaxing. We were close to a lot of beaches and other lovely villages. If we go to North Cornwall again we will be booking Appleloft for sure

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at Appleloft."

Vicky and Chris were great hosts. We arrived to the most delicious cream tea in the cosy cottage. The children were out every morning with Vicky feeding the horses and lambs and Vicky was great at answering their questions! Vicky also took both children pony riding.

Our children loved being able to help out on the farm with the lambs, horses and ponies; it was the highlight of an excellent week in Cornwall.

  • "We had an incredible stay at The Appleloft!"

! Such a cosy cottage and what a treat to be greeted with fresh scones, tea, coffee and milk. The cottage is equipped with everything you could ever think of needing but honestly it was the owners who made it for us, Chris and Vicki really did go above and beyond. They were so patient with our son, Vicki made sure to let him know the first lambs of the season had been born then showed him where they were so each day he would check, there were about 18 by the time we had to leave! Vicky even named an orphan lamb after him! We had free roam of the farm and the surrounding fields so our pooch was in her element. She even made friends with the furry residents, the farm cat and dog

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Appleloft."

The cottage was more than expected and the communication with Vicki before and during our stay was exceptional. Knowing we were able to wonder the farm and see the animals at any time was perfect for my two animal mad daughters (7&5) but what Vicki did for them exceeded all expectations-she allowed them to help feed the animals every morning. Every morning they were up and ready to meet Vicki and this time on the farm was definitely the highlight of their holiday. Thank you Vicki and Chris for a fantastic stay. We will be back!

It was very quite and peaceful with a little garden to have breakfast or dinner. My eldest son went onto the farm and helped feed the animals and learnt how to ride a pony with the help of Liz on the farm who was lovely a credit to the farm. I would 100% book again five stars from us.

The owners were so lovely and took my daughter fo feed lambs and chickens, collect eggs every day and to ride a pony ( once she had groomed it)…. What an amazing experience for a 4 year old London girl!! She loved it! Also a beautiful part of Cornwall that we had never explored… perfect mix of beautiful peaceful countryside but easy access to beach… we will definitely be back (I am sure my daughter will insist)

!! Perfect to get away from it all, and yet excellent WiFi for keeping up with connections. Excellent standard of bedding and towels, clean and cosy, firewood included as a bonus, and homemade scones, such a lovely touch. There is a little private garden, perfect for dogs and sitting in the sunshine when all you can hear are birds, see rabbits hopping by, and the cows mooing and horses neighing :) Hoping to stay again sometime as it really was. Special week and ticked ALL the boxes!!!

The cottage is clean and cosy and has a working fireplace. The owners and people around the farm were super friendly and helpful. both my girls and wife loved being around the animals and helping feed the chickens. It was a good location for us as it’s easy access to version places and beach was 15-20 min away. It’s a place we will be returning to enjoy again.

A very cosy, well equipped cottage, spotlessly clean welcomed us on a damp Saturday afternoon. If it’s peace and tranquillity you want then this is the place to go! The owners were always in hand if you needed them . In a very troubled world this was definitely a place of solace. Situated well for visiting most of Cornwall.

Vicki and Chris and Liz were wonderful and let us all help on their farm. Toby aged 14 and Katie aged 12 absolutely loved the animals and gained so much confidence. The accommodation was beautiful and we didn't want to leave. We re-booked whilst we were there so we can see the lambs in the spring. We have told all our friends and family about our holiday and will be bringing some of them with us when we visit again.

  • "Everything about our stay at apple loft exceeded our expectations."

Vicky sent an amazing email in advance about their changes during this covid crisis and we felt safe even before we got there. The accommodation was spotless and we were welcomed with scones and cream. Vicky was brilliant and so very helpful as was Liz who also works on the farm. It was the most peaceful and tranquil place away from the crowds but so close to everything in every direction. We vsisited beaches, Fowey aquarium and boat ride, Bodmin moor with the hurlers stones and golitha falls and caves, lots of walking and loads of fun. There were plenty of places to eat locally too as well as in the accommodation which was brilliantly equipped. Vicky was amazing with my children and allowed them to help out with the farm duties every morning, which they can't stop talking about to anyone who will listen. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough and will be returning next year for sure.

The problem was I couldn't get an answer when I rang you, the number given said it was the property owner, but was in fact yourselves. I messaged 3 times through Booking.com but no reply. In the end I rang Booking.com 3 days before my holiday started to find out where the keys would be and to confirm that there was indeed parking because the listing said there wasn't and I was sure parking was available when I booked the holiday.

  • "Absolutely loved our time in the Apple Loft on Menaburle Farm, would definitely go back and have recommended it to everyone that will listen!"

This is an old building situated on a working farm so bugs, single lane roads, farm smells and uneven flooring are all part of the package. Wasn't an issue for us but worth noting if any of those things are a big issue for you. There was cake, biscuits, tea, coffee and milk waiting for us when we arrived and all cleaning products were provided. The lodge itself is beautiful with comfy clean beds and a wood burner for the evenings. The owners are nothing short of phenomenal, taking our girls out to feed the animals and ride the ponies and they seemed genuinely offended when we asked them how much we owed them! They were really helpful with advice on the local area too. The lodge is about a 15 minute drive from the nearest village Lostwithiel, where there are pubs, shops, a co-op and chippy. The hours they serve food in the pubs vary so check ahead. It's also within 90 minutes of the whole of Cornwall, within 15 minutes of the major roads to pretty much everywhere. Dogs are welcome in the lodge and in most of the local pubs and the lodge has a fenced garden to keep the doggy safe. Cornwall overall is amazing for dog owners with even some big attractions allowing dogs in. I can't recommend the Apple Loft highly enough, if you have kids who love animals you just will not get a better place to stay! Very reasonably priced and

The peace and quiet only disturbed by the sounds on the sheep and cattle. The cottage is homely, with everything you need to make your stay a good one, with even home made biscuits on arrival. Unfortunately the owners were on holiday while we stayed, but a lady who works there was around and she was brilliant. Our son got to feed the lambs several times, as well as helping with the horses, ducks and chickens, memories which will stay with him forever. Would certainly recommend Apple Loft to anyone wanting to explore Cornwall.

The property

This characterful barn conversion, originally home to the cider press, in the east wing of the owner's home on a working farm on the beautiful Boconnoc Estate near Lostwithiel is a short drive of Fowey resort.

Perfect for family, friends and couples, the open-plan living area with kitchen, dining and sitting room area with a wood burning stove has a curved wall and ceiling beams, and the master galleried bedroom is accessed by steep stairs.

The low beams in the small twin bedroom, on the ground floor make it ideal for children - they will adore the quirkiness, plus there is a bathroom with shower cubicle also on the ground floor.

The dinky enclosed garden at the rear is ideal for alfresco dining, surrounded by meadows and countryside, with resident lambs, cattle, horses, sheep, chickens and ducks to help feed!

There is even stabling and grazing for guests to bring their own horses!

The small village of Lerryn is three miles away with a family friendly pub and store.

Within a short drive are the delights of Fowey with harbour, restaurants, traditional inns and art galleries.

Hop aboard the passenger ferry across to Polruan.

The iconic fishing village of Polperro is a must visit destination with eateries and pubs huddled around the quayside and the fishing port of Looe with stretch of sandy beach can be reached by an amble around the scenic coastal footpath.

Lostwithiel, the ancient capital of Cornwall is six miles westwards and the market town of Liskeard is eight miles to the east.

With excellent golf courses, stately homes, castles, steam railways, sub-tropical gardens and rugged moorland - there is an attraction for all ages.

For that mix of coast and country, The Apple Loft ticks all the boxes.

LOSTWITHIEL

Bodmin 5.5 miles; Fowey 7 miles.

A delightfully peaceful country town, nestling in the Fowey river valley amid the woods and fields that characterise the area. Renowned as a centre for the antiques trade, there are several shops and dealers in the town, as well as a fine collection of country pubs, restaurants and a thriving farmer’s market. Lanhydrock House (NT) and gardens is just 3 miles away, while the fabulous Boconnoc House, Eden Project, shipwreck museum and tall ships harbour at Charlestown, and the picturesque fishing villages of Mevagissey, Fowey and Padstow, with the famous Rick Stein restaurants, are all within easy driving distance. The tumbling Atlantic surf, long sandy beaches and dramatic coastline of the north coast, including at the renowned Newquay, make for great days out and there is also chance to enjoy river canoeing, biking, hiking and leisurely walks in this lovely area. The friendly locals also have ongoing activities, such as the raft race, the famous tug of war, Carnival week and seagull outboard motor races. The river Fowey runs from the town on its 8 mile journey through the fields and wooded valleys to the gentler southern coast, a natural paradise for those who love the sea. Centrally placed, with much to do and see in the immediate area, Lostwithiel is the perfect choice for those seeking a break away from the hectic pace of the tourist resorts.
