  • "Thankyou for a lovely stay, the grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed themselves."

Their favourite part of each day was the swimming, they also liked the idea of being able to use the games room, but unfortunately this was very tired and needed an overall. Our lodge was lovely, very clean and comfortable, nice and warm. Everything one would need for a holiday stay was there for our use. This stay not only allowed us to use the pool and the pub ( whose food was lovely and the staff were very welcoming ) it was also situated very nicely for us to explore Cornwall.

Thank you for your feedback, your comments have been taken on board and will be discussed with the site management. So pleased you got to explore Cornwall. Property Owner

  • "The property was clean, tidy and spacious with great views from the balcony."

The whole site is very well kept. The communication about my stay was very good, clear and easy to understand. The on-site facilities were very good, the swimming pool was warm and a good size. Very warm and welcoming at the reception, restaurant/pub and swimming pool. I will definitely be coming back. Very happy with everything about my stay.

  • "This was a very reasonably priced lodge, very comfortable with great on site facilities."

Pool / gym membership and wifi was included in the price. Even the TV had extra channels for free. The food at the bar was nice and the bar closed reasonably early so there wasn’t any noisy behaviour late into the night. We booked just before the English schools broke up so it was still relatively quiet. This was our 3rd holiday in Cornwall and the best place we’ve stayed in so far for price, accommodation, friendliness and facilities. 10 / 10.

  • "Spent a Week in Valley Lodge 5 and we had a wonderful time."

The property was well equipped and comfortable with a home like feel good kitchen facilities and the Terrace is a great little sun trap, the property even had good internet which was a nice surprise which was useful for planning our week as the phone signal was pretty poor. The beds were comfortable and bathrooms did the job they were supposed to. The lodge is located close to the onsite shop, pub and pools which again is a good bonus and was easily found on arrival. The lodge is in a good location for local attractions like Looe, Plymouth and Bodmin. The only thing that i could really complain about is if the weather had been a little chilly that day then the downstairs would also stay chilly nothing that a blanket on the bed wouldnt solve and there is central heating if required. Would recommend to friends and family.

The heating is available for just those reasons, May is often a beautiful month but it can still be cooler during the evenings. Property Owner

  • "The lodge was lovely and clean, been updated since the photos."

The kitchen was well stocked with all needed for cooking apart from a pizza cutter but that was not the end of the world. One set of towels each for the week was not the best with 5 of us showering daily. The placement of the lodge left very little privacy with the lodges so close together. Not nets meant that we were unable to open the curtains in the bedrooms. The park was a massive letdown. The trip had been moved twice due to the fun of the last 2 years, so having to book swimming was not part of the plan. But we only used the pool once and didn't last more than half an hour. The pool area was horrible, dark, and nasty. The water was freezing. We didn't bother again after that. The staff seemed nice enough but not as welcome as they could have. When checking we had the right lodge they were very quick to say it was not their lodge. I got that but I only wanted to check I was in the right place. After looking at the pool, we never bothered with any other facilities. I don't think I would return as the park is so run down and the lodges are very very packed together

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to see you liked Valley Lodge 5 and you had a nice stay. The lodge is a self-catering property which means there are not daily towels / essential items changes. The holiday park does provide a quite helpful laundry service which can be used by asking at the front desk. The location and placement of the lodge is visible on the first image on the website, which shows the distance between the different lodges and the outside seating area. We are sorry to hear the park was not up to expectations. We have taken your feedback on board and we will pass the comment to the park management to let them know. We do however understand that the indoor pool area has been extensively revamped and the booking system, a requirement under Covid rules, has been retained as it has met with approval by the majority of guests. • "The lodge needs some updating particularly the kitchen area."

needed the heating on early morning, guests unable to switch on themselves

Thank you for taking the time to send your review. The lodge has been decorated and the kitchen flooring has been replaced as well as the fridge and we have added a freezer. The instructions for the heating are in the information folder and should be easy to follow. We do hope that you still enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. • "Dirty lodge housekeeping appalling completely unlike any other Sykes cottage/accommodation we have hired before."

Very disappointed as we’ve come to expect the best from Sykes and fail to understand why they would offer a standard like this.

Thank you for your feedback which we have discussed with the owner. He has taken this directly to his housekeeping team and apologises for any issues you encountered during your stay. Had you contacted us at the time we would have been able to rectify these issues for you. Property Owner

  • "It was just okay, inside was clean and well equipped."

I requested fresh towels midweek but they did not bring them, even though I offered to pick them up. The outside balcony and downstairs bbq area were really old and shabby, weeds and ants everywhere downstairs, this really needs attention. I would have expected a far higher standard of outside maintenance especially for the price.

We are sorry to hear you encountered some issues during your stay. It is not normal practice for an owner to provide fresh towels mid week of a 7 night stay, however if this was agreed in advance with the owner/housekeeper we are sorry that they were not delivered. We have reported the points you raise re the outside area to the property owner and asked that this is dealt with asap. Property Owner

  • "A bigger than expected resort."

Difficult to locate chalet and Reception closed on arrival. A location map would have helped considerably. A few housekeeping niggles initially which the caretaker quickly sorted. Well equipped with utensils but the extreme heat meant the upstairs floor was baking hot; thank goodness bedrooms were downstairs and very cool. Geographical location was equal distance to both north & south coast; lengthy driving to find a decent beach. Indoor pool facility was very good. Outside pool was woefully inadequate especially when groups of younger adults monopolised the facility. Restaurant was good.

  • "We had a nice week in valley lodge 5 - it’s a good base to explore."

However we felt the cottage lacked kitchen equipment (we had to go and buy a couple of bits) and it would be nice to have a welcome pack on arrival. Basics were lacking such as salt & pepper, washing up liquid, hand soap etc which meant we had to go out again after a 7 hour journey and buy some. In my experience this is normally provided for. The outside of the cottage where you enter was very disappointing in terms of it looked shabby and in real need of some TLC, we arrived and my heart dropped. However the inside of the cottage was very clean and smart. The site is good and staff very helpful, the pub has a basic bar menu and the children enjoyed the pool. All in all a good week.

Much appreciated. I believe in continuous improvement on the basis our guest's requirements. We just want to reassure you that three new beds installed, I feel the previous mattresses may have been too uncomfortable. I am looking in to the patio chair and will try and make it comfortable. About the location

CALLINGTON

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
