  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here."

Welcome card addressed to us personally was much appreciated! The cottage is charming and the village has a real sense of community which is unusual these days. Internet is VERY slow, but then we didn't come on holiday to stare at a computer screen. Overall we are very happy to recommend!

  • "Although a lovely cottage, there has been a few things that have made our staying somewhat uncomfortable to the point that we wanted to leave a day before and here they are: * The bed/mattress it's small and uncomfortable; we were only getting 4/5h of sleep at night."

I would like to say more about this but just the fact that we wanted to leave the place before we were supposed to, should give a pretty good idea of how bad this was. * The router/WiFi connection was barely there. The iPad and laptop didn't recognise the connection as safe and wouldn't allow the devices to connect. We couldn't check Google maps nor plan any nearby walks to near footpaths or villages. In 2022 where a good connection its essential, this was really frustrating as we couldn't even make a phone call, the only place where the phone had some connection was near the Coop, 6min drive from the cottage. * The kitchen could have been equipped with at least the minimum (salt, olive oil, kitchen roll etc) With that being said, you can see that the owner is putting a lot of effort into giving the cottage what it deserves. Although this feedback may seem hard, I'm hoping this will help improve what it is so far one of the most beautiful cottage I've ever been to!

I’m really sorry to hear that your stay was not as comfortable as it should be. I can only apologise. The bed and mattress are a standard double size – the mattress is pocket sprung and just three and a half years old: I’m very sorry that you didn’t find it comfortable. I will follow up the WiFi issue with my broadband provider. There is, incidentally, an OS map for the area and a walks file. I do provide salt & pepper and kitchen roll – I’m sorry that you didn’t find them. I like your suggestion that there should also be olive oil and so I will provide that in future. Please be assured that I endeavour to make the cottage as comfortable as possible. Property Owner

  • "We both loved Wickam cottage and having been to Calstock before we enjoyed exploring more of the area."

The cottage is well equipped and comfortable providing a nice base to stay near so many Cornish attractions. We were please to have booked the cottage and will be visiting again sometime. Directions would benefit by saying "down church street until you see Boot Inn" as we felt it was more than 100 metres. A welcome break and we thank you and will be back. Karl & Jean

No-one seemed to mind though and the cottage and village were lovely.

  • "The cottage was beautiful and quaint."

The furnishing was comfy but modern and it really felt like home by the middle of the week. There were comments about the steep stairs but I really didn't find them steep, unlike the hills in the village!! We had the most wonderful week and used Calstock as a base to hit almost every corner of Devon and Cornwall. The single track roads are sometimes scary, but the journey was always worth the view or location at the other end. We will be back for sure. ❤️

  • "Hi-there is only one point I would like to highlight."

I am over 80 and although reasonably fit am not as flexible as I used to be be. I am also over 6ft tall. We both found the stairs very difficult especially going down. In this health and saftey conscious world that we live in should you highlight facts like this ? Aprt from that we had a marvellous week with the Boot Pub 50 yards down the hill servingsome of the best Pub food we have ever eaten.

  • "Wickham Cottage is absolutely stunning accommodation in Calstock - a beautiful Cornish village with two pubs next to the river Tamar."

The owner was extremely helpful before the trip and we were even greeted with a little welcome card and pack of shortbread! The cottage itself looks better in real life than in the photos and is much more spacious than it appears in my opinion. The decor is lovely - quaint and cosy. The cottage has everything you need (other than toiletries so be sure to bring your own). WiFi slow but what can you expect in the middle of Cornwall!? It worked fine for us and we weren't on our phones much anyway. Highly recommend this cottage if you are looking for a weekend away for two :) Loved it!

I would thoroughly recommend a stay in this delightful village (as long as you can cope with steep hills!) A cosy place to get away from it all and relax in comfort.

  • "Cottage was perfect for two - very clean, cosy and with everything we could possibly need including excellent WiFi."

Really enjoyed staying in Calstock - perfect for exploring the area. We hardly used our car for the entire week, with great walks from the door. Only just over a mile walk to Cotehele House, Mill and Quay - well worth a visit. If you enjoy running there are excellent runs along the river. Very welcome drink after a long walk at the Tamar Inn and excellent food at The Boot Inn. Would highly recommend this property.

About the location

CALSTOCK

Gunnislake 3 miles; Tavistock 8 miles.

Calstock is a village in Cornwall, although it stands on the meandering River Tamar close to the Devon border and is dominated by the spectacular Calstock Viaduct, a giant 11-arched structure that still carries the railway line above the River Tamar along the picturesque branch line down to Plymouth. Calstock has been an important quay for centuries, transporting tin, copper and granite out of this important mining area downstream to Plymouth Docks. Today Calstock is a quiet village with a vibrant arts centre attracting musicians and artists from around Cornwall. A mile downstream brings you to Cotehele, a well-preserved medieval National Trust house with glorious gardens sweeping down to the River Tamar. Upstream from Calstock is Morwellham Quay, another important river port and now a living history tourist attraction where visitors can explore a copper mine by taking a train deep underground, admire the working Victorian farm or just quietly enjoy the beautiful Tamar Valley wildlife.
