  • "Had to dust bedroom furniture and dust and debris under furniture."

Needs a deep clean and cleaners need to clean better not just around furniture. Bathrooms grout and silicone need attention and mould on ceiling in one bathroom. A sink was blocked and a shower control leaked which cleaners should of picked up on (was sorted quickly) and maintenance needs to clean gutters as when rained they overflowed. It could be a fantastic house but cleaning and maintenance let it down. Sofa’s are very uncomfortable.

Thanks for the feedback. We have used the off season to make a number of changes to the property including new furniture which has arrived this month. Property Owner

  • "Chy Lowen is a wonderful property to stay in, so much that we would like to stay again in 2024."

Some points that we noted were: 1. We found the sofa too soft. It's ok once you're in, but it's not too easy to get out of! (A minor point). 2. Ground floor bathroom. If the window was kept shut for more than a couple of days, then the smell of damp would occur. As we didn't use this bathroom very much, it wasn't an issue for us. Perhaps it would be an issue for larger parties. 3. Oven trays need replacing. 4. Corner unit to access kitchen equipment is not user friendly. 5. A large picture would be nice above the fire. 6. The lamps in the lounge are cheap and nasty. 7. Outside BBQ grill needs to be cleaned / replaced. 8. The 3 steps going up to the lawn made me nervous when wet - slippy. I'm not elderly, I'm 52. A rail may be helpful. The above are minor points and there are many positive things about the property that makes us want to stay again next year.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We appreciate all your constructive comments, these have been taken on board and reported to the necessary departments to look into. Thank you again and we hope to welcome you back in the future. Kinds Regards, The Carbis Bay Holidays Team Property Owner

  • "Chy Lowen could be a beautiful holiday home - it has stunning views and easy access to the beach at Carbis bay - be warned it has a very steep walk back up the hill from the beach to the house which can be slippery if wet."

The house is spacious but tired and needs a general overhaul. We did have issues with cleanliness and the bedrooms were a good size. Bathrooms and the whole house need a thorough clean not a surface clean. We did find chipped plates and cooking pans that needed replacing due to wear and tear and clean (but stained) duvet cover, pillow case and the odd towel - But if these these things are secondary on your list then the house might tick all your boxes. It is a shame, as it could be a stunning property and worth the letting fee - however, there were 4 adults staying and we all felt it was very overpriced for the week and expected much more in the way of being properly presented.

As owners we rarely get to visit our properties and we are heavily reliant on feedback. I'm sorry the property wasnt as you had expected on this occasion. We have invested in addressing many of the issues you raised over the winter period and feel sure it continues to meet the high standards our guests expect. Property Owner

  • "The house was a lovely property, however when we arrived we noticed a terrible smell of drains in downstairs front bedroom, on investigation I noticed that the basement under the property was full of stagnant water."

Informed carbis bay holidays who did try and rectify the problem , they had basement pumped out , but the smell remained, making the bedroom unusable, also a large industrial dehumidifier had been placed in the basement that could clearly be heard in the bedroom. Overall the property is very nice with lovely views from upstairs bedrooms , it is showing signs of wear and needs a refresh. We were informed that the house was boxed off for work over the next couple of weeks following our stay. I'm sure once the problem has been resolved then the property will once again be a beautiful property.

Thank you for your feedback. Once again, we extend our apologies for the inconvenience caused by the unexpected flooding of the basement. We can confirm the cause of the flooding has now been identified and repaired. Chy Lowen was redecorated throughout in the 2 weeks following your stay as planned maintenance. We trust the compensation you accepted was reflective of the disruption experienced and your holiday wasn’t marred too much. Kind regards, The Carbis Bay Holidays Team Property Owner

One of the bedroom side lights didn’t work and couldn’t find the right bulb, when looking round the house could do with a really good deep clean, don’t think the cleaning is up to standard off the house. Still beautiful thou.

Thank you very much for your feedback. • "What a lovely house."

Was worried it may not feel cosy going in December, with the white decor, but it was. Previous comments made me nervous about cleanliness and maybe they have had a deep clean, as it really was fine and I was looking for it! Beds sooooo comfortable and best equipped kitchen in any holiday home we have stayed in. Location is great, but be prepared for some hill walking. Would highly recommend.

  • "We have stayed in various Carbis Bay Holiday properties over the years and always found them to be well equipped, comfortable and spotlessly clean so we booked again for this year."

Chy Lowen is a magnificent property and lots of room for a large family/2-3 families. Overall it is very well equipped as per the listing but, and this may have been because it was towards the end of the season, some items were looking a little tired and there was an assortment of different types of crockery items some of which were chipped. The furniture on the lounge could do with being replaced as the sofas sink in towards the middle/sides when you sit in them. While clean the property didnt seem as clean as we have experienced previously. A definite minus was the bathroom window in bedroom 1 en-suite did not close properly meaning it was draughty and a little noisy. Overall though none of this spoilt our holiday and we would consider booking this house again.

Dear Mr Tea, Thank you for taking the time to submit your feedback. Please be assured we will passed on your feedback to the owner and our property management team. It would be lovely to be able to invite you back in the near future. Kind Regards, Owner Relations, Carbis Bay Holidays Property Owner

  • "The property is in a lovely position, great for the beach and could be a lovely house."

The cleanliness of the house was not good. Drawers in the bedrooms dirty, needed wiping before unpacking, bathrooms floors looked dirty when we arrived, lots of cobwebs everywhere not just up high, considering it is all supposed to be Covid cleaned I’m not convinced. Neither of the bedside lights in the en-suite bedroom downstairs worked and my Dad went and brought bulbs on the 2nd day. I asked for the 2 single beds to be made as a super king bed which it wasnt. The fan in the en-suite in double bedroom upstairs didn’t work. The double bed downstairs was found to be very uncomfortable and my parents ended up moving beds part way through the week. Also the corner sofa was found to be very uncomfortable too. Such a shame as could be such a lovely property .

Hi Lisa, Thank you for taking the time to leave Feedback following your recent stay at Chy Lowen. I am very sorry to hear the cleaning at the property did not reach our usual high standard, I have forwarded your comments to the Housekeeper that looks after the property for their attention and I have also asked them to check out the uncomfortable bed and sofa. For future reference if you had contacted us in the office on 01736 630015 during your stay we would have happily attended and changed the beds and replaced the lightbulbs. Thank you again for your Feedback. Kind regards, The Carbis Bay Holidays Team Property Owner

  • "This is the third time we have stayed at Chy Lowen."

The property could do with a deep clean and a refresh in places because it is starting to show signs of wear and tear from regular letting. There are too many little things now that start to irritate. There is only so much a cleaner can do in a short space of time on changeover day. Given the price increases you have publishes for 2022, we are unlikely to stay again. At those prices, the property needs to be in 'show home' condition. We will look elsewhere. I'm not a fan of the 'Sykes' brand either.

Perfectly placed for amenities. We were blessed with beautiful weather so took advantage of the BBQ and lovely garden. Few minor issues: several light bulbs throughout the house were out, master bedroom bathroom window did not close, extraction fan in second bedroom did not work, hifi that was listed was missing ,emergency torch did not work and lack of recycling. Other properties had kerbside recycling so not sure why this property didn’t. We took our recycling home as we could not in good conscious send it to landfill. However, these issues did not impact on our enjoyment of a beautiful house in a fantastic location and would certainly book again

The property was well located within an easy walk to St Ives but far enough for a peaceful stay. The property was very clean and had everything we required for our stay. The Cream tea that was left for us was a welcome treat. On our second day, Michelle our housekeeper delivered a new ironing board as she was aware we were attending a wedding, even though we had not mentioned this. This was a great help as I did not realise how many shirts required ironing. I would definitely book through Carbis Holidays again and thank you for our lovely stay in Cornwall." Rose-Marie Lovett

The property suited our needs perfectly. It was clean, well equipped and comfortable with a 'homely' feel - which was great for our two young granddaughters who settled into their new 'home' really quickly. We loved the views across the bay and the sunny garden gave us space to relax when we fancied a quieter time - we bought a small paddling pool and the girls played happily, splashing, filling buckets and pouring the water out. Carbis Bay has been a favourite annual holiday destination for us since 1980 and we have booked accommodation through Carbis Bay Holidays since 2003. I can honestly say that we have never been disappointed with any property we have stayed in.Thank you to everyone at CBH. We are already looking forward to next year's visits.” J.Symms

The accommodation was everything we had been led to expect by your advertising, it was beautifully clean, spacious, and very well equipped. With 5 adults and one baby we had so much space coming home has been a shock! We loved the walk into St Ives, being able to walk meant that we were able to go far more often than we would have done had we to drive there. We discovered the newly opened Cafe (just before you get into Hayle), ' Birdies', I think, on the last morning which was a shame as we were very impressed with it and would have loved to have gone again. Just amazing! The house was very comfortable and had some little touches that we really loved - binoculars, really well equipped kitchen and lots of mugs, so you don't constantly have to wash up. The large fridge freezer was great and made sure we enjoyed the best of the local produce. The beds were all really comfortable and the linen good so we all slept really well. Carbis Bay is a great location, really quiet being residentail but a short walk to St Ives for all the hustle and bustle, perfect. Porthmeor beach cafe - we saw two seals swimming past whilst eating some of the best tapas and fish I've ever had . Magical! The Queens hotel St Ives - we pitched up on a rainy night and had some wonderful food, check out the menu it is just superb. And then to top it of they had an open mic night, a great time for everyone. Godolphin - we went for the bluebells and spent a great time at the property having a tour of the house and enjoying the local arts and crafts at the food and crafts fair.Glendurgan gardens - beautiful and with a great history.Clamoring over the rocks at Godrevy point and again we were joined by a seal for just a few minutes but they were very special moments. We always find Cornwall a special pace but this property made sure we could make the most of out time, even if just walking down to the beach and watching the waves roll in." Chy Lowen was beautiful, home from home and had everything we could wish for. We liked the open plan living area and the fact that all the bedrooms had a bathroom. It was in a lovely location with wonderful sea views. Very convenient to join the coastal path and walk the very scenic route in to St Ives or down to Carbis Bay beach. The nearest footpath to do this is just down the road in Parc Owles. All the beaches around here are lovely, Porthkidney is just round from Carbis Bay Beach where dogs can go all year round, although they can go on Carbis Bay beach before 8 a.m. and after 7 p.m. Lots of nice restaurants but we would highly recommend having a meal at Porthminster Beach Cafe and we also had a nice meal at The Captain’s Table which is upstairs in The Sloop Inn. It’s a nice walk in to St Ives in the evening and easy to get a taxi back to the house if too late to walk back. We had a wonderful week with lots of walking and look forward to coming back again soon." J. Davies

About the location

CARBIS BAY

St Ives 2 miles ; Hayle 3.5 miles ; Penzance 8.5 miles

Just a short drive from iconic St Ives, the seaside village of Carbis Bay is best-known for its beautiful stretch of pure white sand. With turquoise waters and sheltered conditions, the beach feels almost subtropical and is the perfect spot for a good old-fashioned day by the sea. The beach is also home to the Ocean Sports Centre, so if sunbathing is not really your thing, why not hire a kayak or SUP and get out on the water instead. Or why not treat yourself to a Spa day at the delightful hotel which overlooks the beach and has a fabulous terrace where cocktails can be enjoyed in the Cornish sunshine? Carbis Bay has a small range of local shops and restaurants as well as a fish & chip takeaway and railway branch line.
