  • "Firstly, the negatives: Dishwasher needs replacing - its cleaning is poor."

Some mugs were found filthy on arrival - glasses were dirty too and all needed re-washing. Central heating is too high and is difficult to control (thermostat had little effect). Cinema room was like a sauna. Seating in cinema room is also very uncomfortable. Duvets on beds are too warm. Back garden is not fully enclosed. Our dog found a gap in the hedge and escaped - luckily the neighbours were there and alerted us. Internet-only TV has very poor signal so some channels are unwatchable or regularly drop out. Far fewer toiletries provided than in previous years. Coffee table appeared dirty but was actually marked by ring-stains/heat. Now the positives: Excellent location, easy parking and easy access to station to get into St Ives in minutes. Lovely views. Spacious and very well-equipped house. Nicely furnished. Comfortable beds (ignoring the hot duvets). Comfortable sofas. Throws for dogs are a nice touch. Cleaning generally very good (although some hairs found on downstairs shower room floor and debris on upstairs en-suite floor). Friendly neighbours.

The house is roomy and has everything you need. The location is perfect, close to stunning Carbis Bay and the train station into St Ives. One minor issue is that the TV takes a long time to turn on and is not easy to navigate. I just thought I’d mention it just in case there’s an issue with it. Thank you.

The house itself is great, on three floors, spacious, light and airy. I loved being able to see the sea from inside the house, and the garden. The location is excellent with the beach so close - less than 10 minutes walk away - and the station to St Ives even closer. Carbis Bay felt like the ideal holiday location, wonderfully quiet and yet with all the bustle and facilities of St Ives close at hand. We visited as a multigenerational family group, and the house provided plenty of space for all of us, with the three bathrooms being particularly welcome! All in all an excellent holiday home.

A great house in an ideal location however we did notice a couple of things slipping this time. The underfloor heating in the downstairs wet room had been set to 45° and a sign put over the controls instructing us not to change it. The room was unbearably hot and so we had to lower the temperature. I don’t understand the instruction not to vary the temperature in a house we’ve paid for, particularly when the room had been left feeling like a furnace and therefore otherwise totally unusable. There was a very poor selection of glasses with only two of most types. Strange in a house sleeping six. Fortunately lots of wine glasses though! Teaspoons were also in short supply. Other than that though, the house is very well equipped with all you could want and more. On the whole, Cornerways is very comfortable with lovely views from the upstairs bedrooms out to St Ives and across the bay to Godrevy. It is in a quiet location and within easy reach of Carbis Bay beach and some lovely coastal footpaths. The train station is also just a few minutes walk away giving good access into St Ives for non-drivers.

Thank you for your feedback as it is very important to us. We are sorry to hear there has been an issue with thermostat setting in the downstairs wet room this time. We apologise for any inconvenience and want to assure you that we will look into this closely to rule out any issues with the heating system and make sure its set at the right temperature going forward. The team are also always available to help deal with any issues during your stay on 01736 630015 option 2. • "House is great - location can’t be beaten!"

Only a ten minute walk down to the beach. It was very clean and we appreciated the welcome pack. The layout of the house is great, especially if you plan to bring your dog because the garden can be easily accessed from the living area. Kitchen was well equipped in terms of pots, pans, cutlery etc. There were a few things that would have improved our stay: No soap, tea towels and only a tiny amount of Fairy liquid in the kitchen. The en-suite bedroom has saloon doors going into the bathroom and is not in anyway private. A proper door would be much better here. Tried to watch a DVD in the cinema room, but it kept showing us an error with the internet connection which we couldn’t get past. Tried to watch the DVD in the lounge instead but discovered that the scart cable was loose behind the tv and there was no port at the back of the tv to connect it to. No instructions on which colour bin we should be putting general waste in - we knew we had to put it out on Thursday (this was written everywhere) but no idea whether it should be brown or green. This needs to go into the instructions. No clear recycling bags under the sink, which apparently there should have been. Asking guests to check out at 9am AND strip the beds is a bit much - the housekeeper should be doing this (or you should give your guests an extra hour or two). Especially frustrating as we couldn’t check in until 5pm on arrival. We essentially lost a whole day of our holiday and had to do housework. The door to the third bedroom (with the two single beds) can’t close due to the size of the bed frames. It remains open by a foot, so you can’t sleep in there.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your feedback, it really is important to us. We are so pleased you enjoyed the house and location and hope you had a lovely break away. We are sorry you experienced some tech issues, we are always available to fix any issues, had you reported them to us. So pleased it's dog friendly especially when we visit in the winter months. The rooms are great sizes and the beds are very comfortable. Bathroom facilities are very good. Only slight niggle is the wet room has no storage for your things, no bin and a tiny mirror. The kitchen is the best equipped we've ever stayed in. The garden is a bonus, there are some steps as the house is up high, buyt because of this you get a view of the sea, St Ives and Hayle. There's room to get away from each other with the use of the cinema room. Overall apart from a little more deep level cleaning the house is perfect for us and we'll be back in November.

Nice & spacious with plenty of amenities, however the fridge is small for the number of people that can stay & it's design makes it difficult to put items in & out of without dislocating a hip. Great sea views, spacious parking, overall very good. We couldn't find anywhere to recycle glass, tin, paper and plastic at Cornerways. I noticed on bin day other properties in the area had some sort of recycling bags and plastic crates.

Dear Mr Bradley, Thank you for your feedback. We can confirm that unfortunately Cornwall Council does not give 'holiday accommodation' the option to recycle. The bags/crates are something in which residents get, but not holiday homes. We knew the area beforehand as we have stayed with Carbis Bay holidays before but not in this particular accommodation. Unfortunately the only let down was the cleanliness of the property. Given our previous experience of Carbis Bay Holidays this came as a BIG surprise. On face value it appeared clean however it was not. Reported this to customer services, by which time I had cleaned what we needed to use given the late 5pm check in. Kitchen equipment unclean, including utensils, everything felt greasy. Bedding - pillow/mattress protectors had clearly not been washed and by the looks of it had been left for some considerable time. Discovered this as bedding smelt unfresh. Decided to use the washing machine and stripped the bedding and discovered stained and unwashed bedding. Not acceptable in any circumstance, but even more so given the delay in gaining entry to the property due to apparently enhanced cleaning. Everything should be 100% clean regardless for the next occupants, no one wants to sleep in someone else’s body fluids! I could go on and on as there were many more issues. We were really disappointed with what we discovered. An apology after the event isn’t acceptable as it shouldn’t have been there for us to walk in to in the first place. We still enjoyed our holiday, but how can anyone not in such a beautiful part of the UK, simply stunning.

  • "Having stayed in the property Cornerways for a number of years now, this years stay was disappointing."

I felt that the property didn't live up to previous years standards. As in previous years, apart from 2020 due to the pandemic which is accepted, we have always been welcomed to the property personally and introduced to the housekeeper and given a mobile contact number in case any difficulties arise, and was found to be a most efficient service. It is undoubtedly accepted that times have changed due to the pandemic: summer 2021 I believe could had been planned accordingly with all the necessary safety precautions taken. A query arose this year for instructions regarding the change of linen etc., so had to make a telephone call to the main telephone number regarding instructions, to which initially there was no reply after some time hanging on the phone. When finally making contact, the person receiving our call didn't appear to know the procedures, took details and said someone would call us back with the relevant details etc., which I hasn't to add, did occur. Furthermore, I must say I am a dog lover, although I do not currently own a dog, I felt that since the acceptance of dogs in the property, has lowered the quality. For instance, the general conditions of the furniture, and particularly the rugs in the lounge, were 'scruffy'. The patio/balcony furniture was in a delapitated state. The kitchen was lacking equipment for full capacity of people in the property. i.e. lack of some cutlery (i.e. teaspoons), there was only three large mugs, and most importantly there appeared to be no grill pan so had to adapt an oven tray to use the grill. As always I reserve the property early each year and pay my deposit. Next year's stay was a complete and utter shock to learn that the fees for a 2 week stay has doubled in price, which is ridiculous in my opinion. Therefore, since this years standards have declined, I feel that unless the conditions and standards of the property are greatly improved, I will not be returning in the future, seek the return of my deposit and find another property for my 2 week stay with another company.

The standard, quality and the cleanliness of the house was the best we have experienced and we have been coming to Cornwall for the summer and Christmas for over 20 years. The house was clean and fresh and immaculate and made the whole experience even more comfortable. Many thanks for providing an excellent service (from the meet and greet to the cleaner texting to wish us a safe journey home!) and the welcome pack was a lovely touch." A. Escott

The kitchen was really well equipped with quality pots and pans (we cook a lot so this made a massive difference to us). The house itself had everything we could have wished for and the cinema room was superb, buckets, spades, balls etc for the beach were a really welcome addition for our 3 year old. Location wise, Cornerways is in an absolutely superb spot, great view and really close to the beach and train station." K. Soo

  • ""This was our second visit to Cornerways and we absolutely love it – would live there is we could, fantastic house, nice decor and style."

For our needs, we liked the layout, the Cinema room giving us an alternative place to watch TV/films whilst my daughter watched other things in the lounge. Sea views from the house and location in Carbis Bay excellent. Standard of accommodation and cleanliness definitely 5-star could not go to any other house now in Carbis Bay other than Cornerways! As far as Carbis Bay goes, well we love that too- since we discovered it is so beautiful and makes for a truly relaxing holiday. We went to the Porthminster Beach Cafe on the walk from Carbis to St Ives and thought the food there was superb, if a little expensive. As always we had a meal at La Casita and The Badger Inn in Lelant – both of which we like, different types of meals." S.Harrison
