  • "We had a glorious stay at Dolphin Watch."

The photos don't do the place justice. There was loads of room for the four of us, comfortable beds, hot shower, TV and Alexa, every appliance we could want, even buckets and spades for the beach.... But the view was just incredible. The train station at the end of the road made it easy getting into st Ives and carbis bay beach was just lovely.. My kids had a great time and so did we. The only thing that could have made it better where tongs in the kitchen and the wardrobes made our clothes damp, but this is a small gripe against an absolutely lovely Easter break.

We’ve stayed in Carbis many times and this has been our favourite place so far! Spacious, clean and very well equipped. It’s well positioned to get into St Ives on the train or just walking to Carbis Beach. We even saw lots of seals in the sea. Highly recommended

  • "Broken front window (opening)."

Filthy windows and not what we expected from the superb online pictures as advertised - this is what sold us the accommodation, but every time you looked out of the window you were drawn to this. The windows haven’t been cleaned in months. Broken toaster (9/21 comments in Visitors book) so has been for sometime and not replaced. Broken blinds (both rooms). Towel radiator inoperable. Screeching kitchen cold tap. Bedroom TV inoperable. Had to buy Fairy liquid and hand wash soap in St Ives as none. Double bed lumpy. Shower dirty internally. Apartment needs updating. Shame in the fact you can always tell when the owners do not use it themselves, needs TLC. Upside: Excellent area to explore Cornwall, beach super and very practical area to explore with young child. Scenery and wild flowers in May a delight. However £1400 for a week is not reflective value for money, prices have increased and many owners using COVID as an excuse to double prices. Would like compensation.

Without my hot water bottle I would have found it difficult to get warm enough to sleep. When we arrived all leads for tv were pulled out but we eventually managed to get the talk talk working only because my friend was knowledgeable about such things. Tea towel and oven gloves needed to bring kitchen up to standard of rest of apartment. If I could I would have given 4.5 stars. Apart from the above I loved it and will likely go back.

It was so full that nothing cleaned properly, including a frying pan that had obviously been used for scrambled eggs or something similar - I know this as I had to clean it myself. Not something you wish to do on your first day of holidays. Even if everything had cleaned again I don’t appreciate having to empty a dishwasher on my first day of holidays. Perhaps all of this can be fed back to the previous occupants/cleaners.

The kitchen was equipped very well and every where was clean. The apartment is very spacious and the obvious highlight is the view from the lounge window. The bay is beautiful and the sea always interesting and when the surf was high at the end of the week keeping an eye on the surfers was fun. The negative side of the wind coming up was the lounge window was very draughty with the curtains moving and hence the place became cold . The fact there is covered parking provided seems a positive but the spaces are very small and with anything other than a small car you will struggle to park . We would return at this time of the year , but not in summer as no balcony in hot weather would be disappointing. We would also look to return with a smaller car !

Thank you for your feedback, it is really appreciated. We are delighted to hear you had an enjoyable stay and enjoyed the beautiful views from the lounge window. We hope to welcome you again in the future. Kindest Regards The Carbis Bay Holidays Team. Property Owner

It was perfectly clean and it was great that there were some essential cleaning materials there to use. The view as everyone says is just perfect. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was lovely. The apartment was warm. The key was easily accessed and instructions were clear. The kitchen was very well equipped and having the fridge and freezer was useful. We didn’t use the washing machine and only used the dishwasher once, but it was useful that cleaning tablets had been left for both. One little thing-the dish rack was quite rigid and as a result I broke one wine glass then my husband did the same. We did replace them but future guests be careful! It was great to have the coastal path on our doorstep and we walked both directions. What spectacular views. How lucky we felt looking at the area all week.

Dear Roger, Thank you for your Feedback following your recent holiday at Dolphin Watch and I’m so pleased that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay. I am very sorry that you are unhappy with the current increase in the rental amount for a stay in 2022, there has been a huge demand for staycations this year and next, which has increased prices in line with other letting agencies throughout the country. Prices also vary in line with the way school holiday weeks fall, and are also subject to annual price reviews. We would like to reassure you that the prices for 2022 are all monitored very closely and priced with seasonal variance and demand to establish the right balance. Fantastic views all the way from St Ives to Godrevy lighthouse, I'd never tire of waking up to that view! The kitchen is very well equipped too which is always a bonus. The apartment is a good size, we were only one couple but there's plenty of room for a couple of kids too, without feeling on top of each other. For anyone with mobility issues - there are 10 steps to get up into the apartment, but once inside everything is on one level. There is also a separate shower and bath, although it's quite a large step to get into the shower. We very much enjoyed our stay at Dolphin Watch, I'm sure we'll be back!

The Company were swift in replacing the fridge for us (although I had to help....assisting with the lifting down stairs of the old fridge and the lifting upstairs of the new one. We also had a faulty toilet, this was not rectified. When I tried to engage with Carbis Bay Holidays about our experience and the stress of the toxic gas leak, they ignored all my emails for over two weeks. When I got through on the phone to ask why my emails had not been answerd, they advised me that the owners of the property would offer no apology or compensation of any kind, as they could not be 100 percent sure that the fridge had been leaking toxic gas. After all the research I did online I can be certain it was a gas leak....I can also be certain that the cleaner must have smelled it too when cleaning before our arrival - but she did nothing to report it to anyone. Overall I found the customer service of Carbis Bay Holidays to be very poor - not returning any of my emails. And the attitude of the owners to not offer any form of compensation or apology for our stress and inconvenience, shows them to be rather miserly in my opinion. I would avoid Dolphin Watch for this reason and I would not be inclined to book again with Carbis Bay Holidays or indeed Sykes Cottages, their new owner.

The property

The stunning views from the bay window of Dolphin Watch are a joy.

This contemporary first-floor apartment is aptly named too, if you are lucky you may spot dolphins playing in the bay.

However, the view alone is breath-taking, stretching across Carbis Bay beach to St Ives and out to Godrevy Lighthouse.

Sleeping four in two well-presented bedrooms, it’s perfect for a family holiday or romantic beach retreat.

A wall of windows showcases this amazing seascape in the open plan sitting and dining area.

Sit down in the window seat or relax in one of the two large sofas and enjoy watching nature at play or enjoy the entertainment provided on a Smart TV with Freeview.

The dining area is to the rear of the sitting area benefitting from its wonderful sea views.

This delightful space is furnished with wooden floors, a large dining table, six matching chairs and a large serving hatch to the kitchen, allowing the cook to still join in the fun.

The chef won’t miss out on the sea views either as a second opening from the kitchen to the sitting area reveals more ocean scenes.

A well-appointed stylish kitchen to the rear has everything you need in your superb home from home.

Both bedrooms are to the rear and separated from the rest of the living accommodation by glass sliding doors.

This is a bonus if you or your children want an early night without being disturbed by others in the living room.

The master bedroom has a beautifully dressed double bed, the second room is fitted with a single bed and a bunk bed.

The second room is also large enough for the travel cot which is provided.

The bathroom of Dolphin Watch is incredibly spacious with ceramic wall tiles and wood effect flooring.

The beautiful communal gardens of Gwel Marten are available for guests to use and benefit from stunning views and access to the South West Coastal Path and Carbis Bay beach.

The coastal path offers a dramatic scenic walk to the beautiful Cornish fishing village of St Ives or you can catch the scenic railway nearby.

This visits St Ives and the surrounding area and is one of the most beautiful train journeys in the country.

Dolphin Watch’s setting is truly magical and we’re sure you’ll fall in love with this beachside retreat and who knows you may spot some extra friends too.
