  • "This is a lovely place to stay."

Well positioned with a sea view albeit limited. On arrival I had to email as the bathroom sink plug was full with human hair and would it drain. The bedroom was grimy with lots of hair and thick dust, photo sent to the owner. A cleaning team was sent and this was rectified. Further into the stay the toilet In The en-suite was leaking foul water. This was reported 2 days before the end of the stay and was not rectified before I left. Standard of cleanliness unacceptable but so easily sorted. Other guests have mentioned this but obviously has not made any difference. If you want repeat business in this beautiful property just sort out the problems.

  • "Whilst the internal spec was very good the rent of the property was far too expensive for what we got."

This is compared to another apartment we have used near by where we had a balcony and overlooked the beach at Carbis Bay, the internal spec was equivalent but cost 25% less. The only view of the sea was from a corner window in the lounge.

  • "We had a really lovely break over Christmas at Poachers Pocket."

Arriving at the apartment after a long road trip, it was great to step into a warm, cosy & clean apartment. We appreciated that the apartment had some Christmas decorations and a tree and the owner also kindly left us some refreshments upon arrival. The apartment fully equipped with everything we needed. It is also situated near a lot of facilities we needed and it is walking distance to Carbis Bay Hotel's restaurant for a lovely lunch and amazing view.

  • "Skyes were great, service brilliant and rebooked holiday with no trouble at all when Wales went into lockdown."

The cleanliness was not. I had to re clean some of the apartment when I got there. Hairs in the carpet and dirty next to the bedside tables. Dust in very obvious places, on the TVs, on the toilet roll holder, on other surfaces. This was just expected especially after the extra time taken for covid-19 cleaning. They did offer to come in and clean but by that time I’d already done it. Apart from that it’s a lovely apartment great location etc. I’m sure they will act on this feedback.

  • "We received instructions about stripping the beds including mattress protectors on leaving."

I was horrified to find what a disgusting state the mattress on the double bed was in. There were two huge urine stains covering half of the mattress. Not only that but there was no mattress protector only a sheet and this is without doubt a serious health hazard. Also the twin beds didn’t have mattress protectors and I’ve never come across this anywhere else before. I have emailed Sykes several times but havn’t had the courtesy of a reply so obviously you have no respect for your customers. I am very disappointed at your lack of response to this very serious problem.

Thank you for your feedback and for following the Covid instructions I am really sorry about the condition of the mattress. This isn't the service that we aim to provide to our Customers and is very out of character for the feedback that we receive The property is managed on behalf of the owner and the cleaning company have received a complaint following this. The owner is replacing the mattress and making sure that protectors are on all the beds for future Customers I am sorry for the delay in contacting you. Once again, thank you for your feedback. Its very important to us Property Owner

  • "Advance information should make clear that block A is accessed down steps from the car park."

This is by no means obvious especially to anyone arriving in the dark with block D to the right of it! There needs to be much more information and instructions on the utilities in the apartment left fir guests. After 24 hours in the apartment and spending two nights shivering with cold i discovered that the window in the living room had been left open. Another 12 hours later i discovered that the French window in the master bedroom ( which i did not use) had also been left wide open. No wonder i was cold! How was i supposed to know? I suspect they'd been left open and then opened even further as there was a gale on Saturday/ Sunday. There was no information as to how to set the heating which i struggled and wasted no end of time trying to do. That unit was not particularly clean either. Oven is dirty, a grill pan was left in the bottom of the oven also full of old breadcrumbs and dirty. Other pans are past their best. Worst of all on leaving I discovered that there was not even a mattress protector on the bed I had been using. This is completely inexcusable at this time, and unforgiveable. The mattress was old and heavily stained. The bedstead itself was actually pretty grubby too. Please regard my feedback as a COMPLAINT. I expect to receive a response from you. I was totally disgusted and frankly angry.

Maybe it’s be good to have the en-suite set up as the double room.

About the location

CARBIS BAY

St Ives 2 miles ; Hayle 3.5 miles ; Penzance 8.5 miles

Just a short drive from iconic St Ives, the seaside town of Carbis Bay is best-known for its beautiful stretch of pure white sand. With turquoise waters and sheltered conditions, the beach feels almost subtropical and is the perfect spot for a good old-fashioned day by the sea. The beach is also home to the Ocean Sports Centre, so if sunbathing is not really your thing, why not hire a kayak or SUP and get out on the water instead. Or why not treat yourself to a Spa day at the boutique hotel which overlooks the beach and has a fabulous terrace where cocktails can be enjoyed in the Cornish sunshine? Carbis Bay has a small range of local shops and restaurants as well as a fish & chip takeaway and railway branchline. The train journey from Carbis Bay into St Ives is perhaps one of the most beautiful in the country.
