  • "Location was disappointing with no views and rather closed in feeling as we couldn’t look out of bedrooms and lounge looked out over huge pipe."

Nice sound of a stream though. Welcome pack was abysmal 2 individual salt & 3 pepper sachets, packet of 6 biscuits, 6 coffee and 6 tea sachets, 1 pint milk. The soap dispensers were so watered down as to be useless. Usually we’ve been welcomed with scones with jam and Cornish clotted cream, jar of coffee and tea and sufficient milk, sugar, S & P, herbs and sauces etc. Thankfully, we had had lunch en route! Kitchen had nice crockery and cutlery, cooking utensils etc. Stove was very ancient with solid electric rings. No dishwasher which was annoying. No washing machine in property though there was one round the corner of building and it cost £3 per wash. Rude! I didn’t price the dryer if there was one. However…..rooms were nicely furnished with a superb sofa, which I would love to buy, in the downstairs lounge room. Beds were very comfy but 2 bedrooms were a bit tricky for tall people. Linen and towels were lovely and although downstairs, the walk in shower was good. Didn’t use the one over the bath on the ground floor. Had a lovely week but have been honest about the property.

Thanks for taking the trouble to give feedback. Since taking over the property 2 years ago, we have been improving the facilities, including upgrading the furniture - especially the sofa! - as well as adding the new downstairs shower room. The property harks back to it's historic past as a China Clay Dry, so the building has been converted within the restrictions that brings. The pipe you refer to was all part of the industrial past of the building and area. In fact we have always thought it a unique feature and ensured there is a picture on our listing - see picture 28. I'm so sorry this did not meet your expectations as all previous feedback over the past 12 months has been positive. Property Owner

The West Dry Accommodation

The West Dry Accommodation consists of six marvellous holiday homes resting on the outskirts of Roche, Cornwall. Formerly known as part of Great Wheal Prosper, a working clay dry, it has been converted into this fantastic collection of lettings you see today. As you can see, this group of properties enjoy a great deal of character, whilst also boasting TVs, access to a communal utility, ample off-road parking and their own private patios. Nearby, Roche Rock, an attraction that seems like an abandoned prop from the set of the court of King Arthur, rises dramatically from the china clay terrain to the north of St Austell. When you see the destroyed fifteenth-century church that sits on its flat summit, the mystery surrounding this tall, nearly cuboidal lump of granite is considerably heightened. When it comes to your amenities, there is a convenience store in Roche village, along with a newsagents, post office, pharmacy and hairdressers, takeaways, pasty shop, butchers and a grocery. If you're looking to treat your loved ones to a meal out, The Victoria Inn can be found just outside Roche and The Bugle Inn rests, as its name suggests, in nearby Bugle; both offer hearty meals and local ale. Be sure to venture to St Austell for an outing, with its additional amenities, along with access to the shores of Duporth, Porthpean and Carlyon Bay, St Austell Brewery and the St Austell Golf Club. There is a wealth of attractions settled within easy reach, the most notable being The Eden Project just a short drive away. The other attractions range from the Wheal Martyn Museum, Bodmin Jail and The Lost Garden of Heligan to the National Trust's Lanhydrock House, Camel Creek Adventure Park and Dairyland Farm Park; there is truly so much to see here. A fantastic stay that is brimming with history, choose The West Dry Accommodation.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.
