  • "Spacious and modern accommodation."

Two large en suite bedrooms, utility room and open plan kitchen, lounge and dining room. Small terrace on the upper floor and cosy conservatory off the main bedroom. Hosts are on property and were very helpful all week through. Well situated to explore West Cornwall. Stunning views across to Lands End. Spent hours on the beach at Sennen Cove. Just beautiful. Amazing views on the Coastal Path.

:) For those with a dog this is the perfect place - there is even a doggy shower and stacks of towels and handy things in a basket under the stairs. Cannot wait to return!!!

  • "The location is spectacular."

We enjoyed walks with the dogs from the doorstep as well as exploring the local area, which is beautiful. The Stables is a fantastic holiday home and the owners are on hand going above and beyond should you need anything without being intrusive. The facilities for the dogs were perfect offering everything for their stay too, including an enclosed paddock, and a shower in the barn with shampoo and towels provided. The dogs were as well catered for as we were. We truly had a fantastic stay and wouldnt hesitate to recommend.

The house is equipped with everything you and your family requires to have a peaceful, relaxing Cornish holiday. Amanda and Paul are the perfect hosts, they welcome in to their property with a warm and friendly manner. They care about you and your holiday. The location of the holiday home is perfect, the views from every angle from the living room windows are stunning. The house is spotless, the rooms are spacious and relaxing. Amanda and Paul have gone out of their way to make Avalon Stables safe during this C19 time. We love our stay each year at Avalon Stables, we highly recommend you holiday at Avalon Stables.

  • "Amazing accommodation in a beautiful setting."

The owners were extremely friendly but never intrusive. The facilities in the property were great, with everything you may need. Clean, tidy and modern. The enclosed garden is ideal if you’re taking dogs, and it’s a beautiful view watching the sunset from the balcony of an evening. We would highly recommend!!

  • "The accommodation was great and the owners extremely helpful."

Everything that we needed was provided and more, whilst the location was ideally situated for our daily excursions. The stables are about a mile walk from the nearest beach, Gwenver, however It is partly along a road. Sykes were uncontactable during the Covid situation, which was obviously a time of certainty and we didn't know if we could still go at that point, however Sykes still took our full payment balance. They could/should have responded to my numerous emails and they had were not answering calls !

  • "Sykes did all that one would expect them to do, and are paid to do."

..no more, no less. The property owners Paul (and Amanda, who we did not meet) were courteous and helpful without being intrusive. The facilities for dogs were good, plenty of towels and bowls and a shower in the barn which was a boon when Buster rolled in fox poo! Some 'dog friendly' cottages show signs of above average wear and tear, perhaps inevitably, but this one was in very good order. There were some nice touches such as the Prosecco in the 'fridge, and the box of fudge, dog treats and pint of milk. Unreservedly recommended.

  • "The ‘welcome pack’ was fabulous, better than any cottage we have stayed in over the last 20 years!"

Paul and Amanda were so friendly and helpful. The house is so comfortable that we ate out on only a few evenings whereas we would normally do so every evening. The views are stunning, the sea is visible from three sides of the living room...the advantage of being close to Lands End. Walks for the dogs straight from the house was a real advantage. The garden is truly enclosed, our two German Pointers couldn’t get out!

  • "Right from the information Amanda provided regarding walks from the cottage prior to the holiday, and the wine, chocolates and milk upon our arrival, right through to the end of our holiday - our stay at Avalon Stables was an absolute delight."

The cottage itself is absolutely beautiful - fantastically equipped with everything you could possibly need. It was beautifully clean when we arrived and were greeted by both Amanda and Paul. The 'tour' of the house was really helpful and meant we knew where everything was for the week ahead. Once you get used to the upside down layout, the advantages become obvious - including the views (particularly to Long Ships Lighthouse) and having both the kitchen and dining area together upstairs works really well. We particularly liked the breakfast bar and the kitchen itself was superb - everything you needed, and so easy to use. The living room was beautiful and (again) wonderfully furnished throughout. The two ensuite bedrooms were just sublime - with TV's in both, and beautiful beds/bedding. The baths were wonderful and the showers were great too (particularly in the double room - wow!). The conservatory for the double room was a great touch too and a real sun trap. The enclosed garden (accessed via the conservatory) was perfect for our needs and very practical. In the summer it would be really useful for al fresco dining too. As for the location - Avalon Stables was very easy to find (great directions provided prior to the holiday) and is perfectly situated to explore the magical Far West of Cornwall. From here you can find St Just, Cape Cornwall, Botallack, Geevor & Levant tin mines, Pendeen Light House, Potherras Beach, one way and Gwynver Beach (dog friendly all year), Sennen Cove, Land's End, Nanjizal Beach, Porthcurno and the stunning Minack Theatre the other - and all within ten minutes driving. Further afield you can visit Lamorna Cove, Mousehole, Newlyn, Penazance (with a Sainsbury's, Tesco & Morrison's Superstores all in neighbouring Long Rock) and Marazion beach and the mighty St Michael's Mount in one direction and St Ives & Hayle the other - and they're all within 20-25 minutes drive. Really - just an amazing area. Oh - and you can walk across the road from the cottage and hike up Chapel Carn Brea... and other great walks within easy distance. You really can't fault the location! All in all - we have had a marvellous, relaxing and enjoyable week at Avalon Stables. Paul & Amanda are really helpful and right next door to you - but never intrusive. We'd heartily recommend the cottage as great for families too, and it's a superb dog friendly place too. If (and when) we return to the South West - we'll certainly be checking availability again to see if we can book Avalon Stables for a repeat stay!!

About the location

ST JUST

Penzance 7.2 miles; St Ives 12.9 miles.

St Just is the nearest town to Land’s End and is situated approximately eight miles west of Penzance. The town itself is an ancient settlement that has a strong mining history and there are several monuments and prehistoric antiquities to visit including the Bronze Age settlement at Cape Cornwall. St Just is ideally located for visitors to explore the far west of Cornwall as it is situated on the edge of the moors and close to the beautiful north coast. In the centre of the town is Plain-an-Gwarry, a theatre used for miracle plays in medieval times, and in more recent times for the Lafrowda Festival.
