  • "Lovely location, Carne Mill was very well equipped & comfortable accommodation."

However, although advertised as dog-friendly, we feel the description should state that the garden is not dog-secure. There were a few irritating issues which did mar our holiday experience a little which we have reported to the owner of the property.

  • "Lovely stay at Carne Mill, fantastic location and house."

Tranquil setting and having a nice pub nearby was a bonus. Check-in and check out times were later and earlier than expected but additional Covid-related precautions were required. Would recommend this property and visit again.

  • "We had a wonderful week in Carne Mill ."

The house is fabulous in a beautiful setting right by the estuary which is very peaceful. The kitchen is very well equipped and the garden a lovely place to relax in . The surrounding area is unspoilt and off the main thoroughfare affording some beautiful and varied walks. We hired kayaks and paddle boards from St Anthony which is a short walk from the house . Pippa , the owner was very helpful and easy to contact if there were any queries. All in all a great holiday for all the family.

  • "Carne Mill is a very special holiday home - it’s setting is absolutely beautiful by the creek where you sit and enjoy the wildlife on the water."

It is a very comfortable and roomy home with excellent facilities- just perfect for larger families or groups. The home is well kept and immaculately clean. We absolutely loved the garden - a great place for outside dining and plenty of space for children to play. There is even a woodland to explore and a picturesque walk to the local pub. Walk in the other direction and you will find the quaint village of St Anthony’s, where you can hire kayaks for a fun jaunt on the creek. We would highly recommend holidaying here - just beautiful!

  • "Everything about the place was perfect."

The most enchanting location, the quality of accommodation which included a beautiful garden, the quality of fixtures and fittings, and most of all, the personal touch and care of the landlady. We honestly could not have asked for more. Thank you.

  • "This property is in a stunning location and ideal for exploring the local creeks and coastal walks."

It's a great walk down to Helford through the woods. We took advantage of the services of the local fisherman who delivered to the door. The property is exceptionally well equipped and we would definitely consider returning .

  • "Carne Mill is an outstanding property, the photos do not do it justice."

Perfect for large family holidays - we had a wonderful time. The owner Pippa worked hard to ensure safe infection control (COVID) which was very reassuring. Pippa even made personal phone calls to ensure all was well- and reminded us about collecting our good housekeeping deposit! A very professional and helpful owner.

Stunning location away from it all. Very clean and comfortable to stay in. Host on hand via the phone if we needed anything. Would love to go again.

  • "Absolutely amazing."

We booked Carne Mill for a week in Feb as it was our 50th, and our Son's 25th, wedding anniversaries, our daughter & son-in-law also joined us. We travelled down through Storm Dennis which was interesting to say the least, especially crossing Dartmoor! 30mins before arriving we received a call from Pippa telling us that the storm had brought down the power lines to the house. Pippa was most concerned and was working frantically to get things sorted. We stopped off & bought some candles & when we arrived, at dusk, found the housekeeper, local electrician & the Electricity board all working hard to sort the problem. Not to be deterred we settled down to a romantic candle-lit evening of wine cheese & crackers and retired for the night. :-) The Electricity board worked through the night & power was restored by the following morning. What a delight Carne Mill turned out to be. The accommodation was spacious and of the highest standard. The kitchen had everything you could need & the bedrooms were a delight. Getting up in the morning & looking out over Gillan Creek was so restful and we did several walks straight from the house. The two swans in the creek would come over whenever we went outside and would happily take food from your hand. Right at the edge of Gillan creek, Carne Mill is perfectly placed for visiting the whole of the lizard. We enjoyed walking at the coast path from Kynance Cove, Church Cove and Helford & watching the breakers crashing at Mulion. We would thoroughly recommend this property.

  • "What a house!"

!! Carne mill is an absolutely beautiful house in a tranquil location. We got married the same week and carne mill housed our guests. We had caterers in for the meal and the house had every utensil you will ever need. Divided into 2 buildings, the flat has access to the rear of the house with 2 bedrooms, kitchen, livingroom and beautiful furniture. The main house is finished to a high spec, with amazing wooden staircases, and a impressive kitchen. The pictures on the website doesn't do this house any justice, needs to be experienced to appreciate its history and beauty.

  • "A beautiful, comfortable, well equipped house."

...nothing had been overlooked to make your stat stay as enjoyable as possible. The house is in an idyllic tranquil spot...over looking a creek and even a swan nesting in front of you. We hope to return.

  • "Carne Mill was exceptional, spacious, clean, well equiped and a fantastic view and location, even the weather was good the week we were there."

We had a issue with the plumbing while we were there, this was sorted within hours and without disrupting our holiday, what excellent customer service. I would recommend this property to any large group who want a relaxing holiday in an exceptional house and gardens.

  • "The living room is a beautiful large room, fab views, it could benefit from larger sofas, ( small uncomfortable 2 seaters) and the random cane chair with a bed pillow on covered by a throw really isn't up to standard or the saggy beanbags."

The kitchen is beautiful and well equipped, the quick cycle on the washing machine was a godsend in the utility room. All the bedrooms in the main house are lovely, light airy and comfortable, bathrooms excellent. The annex, well this really does need a refurb, the sitting room is very dated and when we were there there was an underlying smell of sewage, particularly noticeable when it had been shut up for the day. Happily the weather was perfect so we spent a lot of time outside, Bbq fantastic, outdoor seating could do with upgrading as several wooden chairs were rotten and the green plastic ones do not do the house justice. The walk flagged in the spec from the house to the pub, well we never did find it although we looked ( incidentally the local pub only serves food at the weekends) We all felt that a little more information about the past use and history would add to it's charm ( I found out after chatting to the gardener over a cup of tea which was fascinating) and a rowing boat would be awesome! Overall a lovely property, we would all definitely return here set in the most amazing area. We have been using Sykes for over 10 years, this is our 4th large family property we have rented as it's always difficult to find a single property without bunk beds

  • "Carne Mill was well equipped and immaculately clean."

The kitchen was amazing and huge, we had plenty of room to sit and eat together. The mill's location beside the creek and on the edge of the wood was idyllic, and was even better when the sun was out. I would definitely book this accommodation again and have no hesitation in recommending it to other families.

Situated on a quiet tidal creek, it's location is ideal for wildlife, walking and, tide permitting boating. Despite the unusually wet weather this year we all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at Carne Mill.

MANACCAN

Helston 10 miles ; Helford 1.5 miles ; Porthallow 3 miles

The village of Manaccan on the South Helford is small and friendly, with an excellent restaurant, friendly village inn and a beautiful 12th century church. The South Helford is arguably one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of Cornwall. With meandering country roads, picturesque creeks, tidal inlets and pretty waterside villages, the area can be summed up in three words: tranquil, charming and timeless. The perfect spot for enjoying outdoor living, the South Helford’s sheltered coves were made for messing around on the water and strolling leisurely along the banks. Leave your ‘phone behind and embrace the simple pleasures - while away time paddling in the shallows, explore hidden coves with a hire boat from St Anthony, and stroll through woodland to enjoy a picnic on the beach.
