"We had issues with the heating, cleanliness after a previous visit to The Barn."
We spoke to their manager who was helpful and friendly and our most recent visit was lovely. All issues had obviously been dealt with and our stay was perfect!
"The Barn is a very pretty little cottage in an idyllic position in the Cornish countryside, it is situated close to nothing but not very far from everything, a great little spot to base your self when exploring the county."
It was clean and tidy, everything worked and was complete with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The instructions for access need updating, either the "cream" cottage given as a point of reference was painted "blue" many years ago or I was completely lost. My sat-nav actually worked fine and found the way home every time. The only grumble I have is the fact that you cannot control the heating. The electric radiators have been locked and cannot be adjusted. This is not the sort of penny pinching you expect when you pay hundreds of pounds for a break. Not a problem if you are booking in the summer, but think twice if you want to be comfortable on a cold winters morning.
Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear you liked The Barn and you enjoyed Cornwall. We confirm we have updated the access instructions and we are happy to hear your sat-nav was able to show the correct location. Unfortunately not all of them bring guests to the exact location so to avoid possible mishaps we suggested avoid using it. The heating system is set to come on at 6 am and turn off at 10 pm automatically. The temperature is set at a above average levels and is maintained constant in the property. For a cosier atmosphere the open fire can be lit and used all day. We hope you will visit The Barn for more lovely holidays in the future. Property Owner
"We stayed at The Barn over Christmas, we have a wonderful stay."
The Barn is set in an idyllic position if you need some time to relax and recharge. The Barn was beautiful inside and out and had everything that you would need! It was clean and the garden was safe for our dog. I Would highly recommend this property.
"We had a wonderful week and some pretty spectacular weather."
It was so relaxing sitting upstairs with the fire roaring and watching the weather on all sides. Our Collie loved the gardens and the fact that it was gated meant we were comfortable leaving her to run where she liked. We are looking forward to returning soon.
"Very enjoyable stay, thank you, the cottage and gardens were lovely"
"We had a lovely holiday in this beautiful cottage with lovely a garden and a short drive to visit lots of different places."
The cottage was chilly downstairs and you couldn’t use the heating it was July and nice weather but still cold inside .Also there were notes left around the cottage telling us to vacate my 9am this was too early we had to get up early and rush to strip the bed and be ready .As Sykes had sent us information saying it was a 10am vacation we did find this annoying .
Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry to hear you had a few issues. Should you have contacted us during your stay we would of been able to help with turning the heating on. Due to extra time needed for COVID-19 cleaning procedures we have had to make check out slightly earlier, we are hoping this can go back to normal as soon as possible. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay. Property Owner
"Gorgeous location so quiet but surrounded by nature."
Fantastic for walks in the countryside.
"This is a beautiful cottage and our third visit."
We already booked for next year! This year the cottage was not quite as clean as usual with a mass of what appeared to be pet hair under the bed. The oven is the worst and impossible to understand
Thank you for taking the time to send in your feedback. The owner has confirmed that her housekeeper is extremely thorough in the cleaning of the property, even more so since the Covid-19 pandemic, so was very surprised to hear of the pet hair under the bed. The oven has been replaced. We are glad that you had an enjoyable stay, and we very much look forward to welcoming you back to The Barn next year. Property Owner
"Lovely cottage down a quiet country lane."
Plenty of outside seating areas in well kept gardens. The cottage was very cosy and warm with everything we needed for an autumn holiday
"The cottage was lovely, peaceful and quiet."
The roads leading to it are very narrow and a bit scary when another vehicle is coming the other way, but you get used to them. Bed was really comfy and the cottage was spacious enough. The kitchen could have had some more cooking equipment, not many pots and pans, meant we had to think about what we were going to cook. No dryer only a washing machine, clothes horse and washing line available but did take a long time to dry properly. No information available about local walks, take away numbers, etc, although this maybe due to Covid situation. The garden was gorgeous lots of seating to catch the sun all day, the dog absolutely loved the garden and space. Nice and central to explore Cornwall. Would visit again in the future.
"The Barn was lovely, very small though and very remote down scary lanes!"
Kitchen could do with a bit of updating... Also a couple of bowls would have been handy. I would certainly recommend it though, but more for couples due to its small size.
"The Barn was a lovely place to escape to, great location, clean inside and great gardens."
Slightly disappointed not to have a BBQ despite this been listed but would definitely return
Very clean. Had everything we needed. Great base for exploring the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan
"Excellent cottage in an ideal location for all Cornwall has to offer."
Lovely gardens which dog loved exploring.
"Excellent for our dog, lovely enclosed garden with large field next door for excercising the dog, friendly neighbours and well placed for visiting the rest of Cornwall."
Lovely quiet holiday
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Barn,we found it very comfortable which was so needed as we had a very bad two weeks weather with rain and wind, some days we just stayed in apart from taking out Whippet Freya for a needy walk, being very comfy made the weather bearable!"
Gardens are lovely and a pleasure to be in and as we have really nice gardens at home it really was a home from home. Thankyou Sykes for always being helpful, particularly when the cistern broke! Will use you again.
"By fat the best cottage we’ve ever stayed in."
As always our dog was in tow along with our 6 month daughter for her first holiday. She was in awe from the moment we got there and our dog loved the garden to run around in. Stunning location and grounds and the perfect location for us to go off to where we wanted to visit. The cottage was incredibly well equipped - kitchen especially! It had everything we needed. We love Cornwall and when we next go back we definitely will be booking the Barn again.
"Lovely location and accommodation."
Would definitely book again!
"The location is perfect for visiting so many places without traveling to far, the Barn is in really quiet rural position."
"The peace and quiet."
The garden was large and enclosed with seating in every part of the garden. Our dog loved it. She could go where she liked without getting out. Cottage is very well equipped and very comfortable.
"What an amazing place to stay."
. Great views from and wonderful garden, so peaceful and secluded but also close enough to get to all the great places you want to visit. would definitely stay there again if we were holidaying in that area.
"This holiday cottage is superb and has everything anyone could want Secluded but close to shops beaches and beautiful Cornish countryside."
The cottage has fabulous walled gardens. Our dog enjoyed it so much he sulked all the way home!!! We were so impressed we booked again for next year whilst we were there
"It was an amazing cottage ."
Great views .lots of space just wish we had longer there.
"I loved my holiday at the barn, it was fabulous and in a beautiful area, close to everywhere we wanted to go and a very homely inside."
We loved cooking and watching films in the night, there was everything we needed and more. With that all considered it was perfect.
"The Barn is a wonderful holiday cottage."
It is better equipped than anywhere else we have stayed and the garden is fantastic. A very relaxing and comfortable cottage in an excellent and peaceful location. We would recommend this cottage to anyone.
"The barn was lovely and peaceful the only issues we had was the bathroom,as the shower was not very powerful and the water went from boiling to freezing during use!"
The height of the shower was very low as a tall family we struggled using the shower. Hot tap on the bath was also very loose and I was worried about the kids using both the shower and the bath. If the bathroom was upgraded then the cottage would be perfect.
"Lovely cottage and we enjoyed the gardens and view from the lounge."
Clean and well equipped.
"Simply superb from start to finish."
"We have visited Cornwall but in a caravan."
This holiday was totally outstanding. The barn was beautiful, easy to find and the garden was very private. The features of the cottage were very rustic which adds to the charm.
"The Barn is a lovely cottage with a beautiful garden."
We had a great holiday. A great escape!

About the location
Charlestown 2 miles; Carlyon Bay 3 miles; Mevagissey 6 miles; Fowey 8 miles.
The old market town of St Austell, just a mile or two from the south coast, is famous as the historic centre of the china clay mining industry. Today, its many beaches and its sub-tropical gardens provide plenty to see and do. The wonderful Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are perfect for a family day out, and a little further afield Caerhays Castle provides a stunning backdrop to Porthluny Cove. On the edge of town, St Austell Brewery offers tours of the Victorian brewing equipment and a chance to sample the local beer, and for those looking for surf and sand, St Austell Bay has several beaches to choose from - Porthpean, Carlyon Bay, Pentewan, Polkerris - the last offering a variety of water-sports. As well as a small shingle beach, Charlestown, a pretty, historic port, often has wooden sailing ships in the harbour, and is popular as a film location. A little further afield are Fowey and its beautiful estuary to the east and the fishing port of Mevagissey to the west. With lots to do and something to keep the whole family entertained, St Austell is a great year-round destination.
