  • "This was our second stay at Tregithey."

We love the fabulous rural location and the beach nearby which can only be reached on foot . We like the new patio area and seats. The garden is lacking some reclining loungers which would make this holiday perfect. The coast path has been opened up and runs past the end of the garden and of course there is the private dock with access to the creek. It’s just amazing.

  • "We had an amazing week, the location was perfect for walking or just relaxing."

The weather was very kind to us, and members of our party used paddle boards from the Dock, and cycled and ran! The housekeeper was very helpful when we realised we couldn't lock the boards and bikes away and resolved our query in no time. We had my daughters dog with us for three days, and the accommodation suited it perfectly as she could use the conservatory, kitchen and utility which all flowed from each other. We took a stair gate to use at night so she could stay in the utility without having the door shut. She loved the walks and the large garden. Everyone enjoyed a little go on the piano! The TV never got switched on. Along with towels I would recommend bringing little things like washroom soap, cling film, foil, and maybe a sharp knife otherwise it was very well equipped. Don't use the downstairs shower when the washing machine is on! Apart from the fact they no longer accept dogs we would have no hesitation to return for future family get togethers!

  • "Lovely old farmhouse though it was cold and felt a bit damp when we arrived."

Once we had been there a couple of days and lit the fire it warmed up, but the sitting room with the wood burner continued to feel damp and the window had been screwed closed so condensation built up. Lack of soundproofing between upstairs and downstairs was an issue early in the morning and late at night when some people were up and some in bed. We struggled a little only having two bathrooms between nine, and we found the kitchen cramped when everyone was in there. However the house is clean and well equipped with plenty of outside space and the location is beautiful. I would say it's an ideal house for a summer holiday for 7 or 8 people.

Thank you for your feedback, we are happy that you found the area beautiful and would agree with you that Tregithey Farmhouse is an ideal holiday house. In raising some of the points that you mentioned, we have just had new electric radiators put in every room and they are on all of the time – these just needed to be turned up. In the visitor’s hand book, instructions can be found on how to use the heaters, although by pressing the up buttons on each radiator, or calling the housekeeper for help, would have resolved the heating problem. With regards to the property, it is an old farmhouse with its original beams and flooring, and to put in new floors would change the character of the building so therefore we accept the farmhouse for what it is. As stated in our property description, there are two bathrooms available. We are sorry that you found some problems with your visit but wished you had called the housekeeper during your stay so that we would have had the opportunity to correct this at the time as we don’t wish anyone to be cold. We thank you for visiting our property and wish you well in the future. Property Owner

Its so beautiful, homely, clean, well furnished and comfortable. The cake on arrival was most welcome as well! The setting was amazing and magical for the children to explore, very 'famous five'. The location is great and about a twenty min walk to the nearest cove. I would definately recommend and hopefully will be back very soon!

  • "Me and the family loved this property and it’s location."

There is plenty of character and it’s very spacious. The facilities are good, decent cooker, fridge, dishwasher etc. and the cleanliness was completely satisfactory. What would improve our next visit (and we will be back) is a set of new pillows for the bedrooms and replace a couple of the single mattresses as they we’re getting a little thin. The owners are very lucky having such a special place. Can’t wait to return!

Thank you for your feedback and we welcome your comments. New pillows, of which I hope you will approve, have already been purchased. We am so glad you had a good time and we look forward to you returning. Property Owner

  • "Lovely old farmhouse in a lovely location."

However, the accommodation is rather mis-represented by the pictures, which are obviously some years old. The accommodation is in desperate need of refurbishment. The furniture is tired and needs replacing. The cleanliness leaves something to be desired, with thick cobwebs behind the settee in one of the rooms. We don't expect old buildings like this to be spotless, but it would be nice to know that the furniture had been pulled out and cleaned behind. The kitchen and bathroom were clean, and had obviously been cleaned but, as well as the cobwebs behind furniture, a quick run of the finger over the tops of the pictures showed that these had not been cleaned in a very long time. The central heating system is probably in need of a clean out, because the downstairs’ radiators managed to get only tepid, whereas some of the upstairs radiators managed to get quite warm (but not all of them); changing the thermostat had had no effect. It was also annoying that the water heating and the central heating on/off times are set to come on and go off at ‘appropriate’ times. Who decided what appropriate is, or how this was determined, is not known, but is a real annoyance and is not an accurate statement. The heating and hot water controls need to be controllable by the people staying in the house, not by the owner. Overall, the stay was acceptable, but if I had paid the high-season rate I would have been very disappointed.

Thank you taking the time to leave your feedback. I am sorry the property was not as clean as it should have been, if you had informed us at the time the cleaner would have returned to address any issues. It had a deep clean at the end of lockdown 1 in readiness for guests and has a full clean between bookings, but I have passed your comments to the housekeeper. We believe the furniture to be in keeping with the style of the farmhouse and as shown in the advertising but understand this is a personal choice. On checking the heating, the radiators had been turned to low by previous guests but can be individually set for preference, and the thermostat by the stairway cupboard adjusts the temperature for the house. To be sure there is no fault, we have arranged for an engineer to take a look at the system and advise if any improvements can be made. I hope you enjoyed your holiday and would love to welcome you back. Property Owner

  • "The property could certainly do with some updating but we thought it added to the charm and was comparable to other properties we have stayed at in that price range."

The kitchen was well equipped and it was certainly a bonus to have a washing machine and dryer. We loved the private dock where we tried fishing - no luck in catching anything though! The walk down to the creek took a little longer than was advertised and would be difficult for people with limited mobility. The property is tucked well away from major roads and down some long winding lanes but we didn't mind that at all. We were still able to explore a part of the region we've not visited before - it just took a little longer to get there! All in all we enjoyed our stay and wouldn't rule out staying again in future.

  • "The property was a lovely old farmhouse, full or character and remote as described."

Although it had been cleaned in places such as the bathrooms, it was filthy with ingrained dirt and needed some maintenance. Outside, the grass had not been cut; there was dog poo in the garden and the BBQ had used coals and food on it. Inside, plaster had fallen off the walls in most rooms, thick cobwebs (like in horror movies) covered windows inside and outside, windows had not been cleaned in months. Common points such as doors, hand rails and light switches were covered in grime and door knobs, work surfaces we’re sticky to the touch. The kitchen was well equipped but most things had to be washed before they could be used, We thought two glasses were a smokey grey but turned out to be clear glass that was dirty. We spent four hours cleaning the property on arrival and found dirty socks and make up from a previous guest. I wonder how long ago the photos were taken? They misrepresent the current condition of the property which could be lovely, with a deep clean and some maintenance. We had booked the house months in advance. Our view was that if the house was not clean on arrival, calling the housekeeper would result in little improvement. We bought cleaning products and cleaned it ourselves as we couldn’t stay in it as it was..

Just before lockdown the farmhouse had a deep clean and had full maintenance as it has each year. The farmhouse is an old building and we expect wear and tear from guests. The housekeeper does a full clean after every guest departure followed by a Covid-19 clean. We have a gardener who cuts the grass every two weeks, weeds the beds and removes any ivy. The gardener removes any poo when cutting the grass, which could result from local wildlife. We do expect guests to clean up after their dogs and most do. We have never had any complaints about our gardener and he does a brilliant job, lots of positive feedback from previous guests. All the windows inside and out are cleaned regularly, outside July 2020, inside when marked; we have our own local window cleaner. Any webs that appear are caused by Daddy Long Legs which the housekeeper checks for before each guest arrival. The sticky surfaces are caused by the recommended anti-bacterial spray. The BBQ?s are not emptied if coal still in them. I wish the guest had called the Housekeeper, as she was very upset when she received the comments, she works to a high standard and expects a call if there are any problems. When the guests left, they thanked the housekeeper, no mention that there had been any problems. Property Owner

  • "The first 2 hours after arriving at this property we had to thoroughly clean for it to feel liveable."

We found dirty socks behind cabinets, food wrappers under beds and we counted over 85 cobwebs with spiders in in the bedrooms alone. There was dirty cutlery and tableware in the cupboards, the tumble dryer and fridge didn’t work properly and the conservatory roof had a leak in it. If you have a low type car then the driveway is near impossible to drive down without damaging underneath. The Quay at the bottom of the hill floods to an extreme level so days have to be planned around tide times. This property was so remote that any medical assistance needed would take longer than usual. The visitors book had so many ripped out pages which we will assume was because of the negative feedback. We will certainly not be going back.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We apologise for any issues you may have experienced and have discussed these with our housekeeper; perhaps your early arrival may explain why a couple of items were overlooked on this occasion. Our housekeeper would have welcomed the opportunity to correct any cleaning or maintenance issues at your earliest convenience, had she been made aware of them. With regard to the property being isolated, many of our guests feel that this is one of the main features, we receive much praise for its privacy. We do provide guests with a list of all medical centres nearby. Unfortunately Spring tides are part of nature and out of our control. We will certainly check the visitor's book, as it contains many first class reviews and would have no reason to remove them. Property Owner

  • "We were staggered to find so many coves within walking distance of the farmhouse, plus the private jetty’s course."

Tregithey was close enough that I dropped 6 of our party at one cove, drove the car back up and walked down with the dog 20 minutes later. Having visited Cornwall many times before, it was amazing to find coves that tourists hadn’t spoiled - no car parks meant quiet, tidy beaches! The coves were sandy, pebbly and lots of rocks to explore. Crabs, fish, jellyfish all for viewing. 4 adults, 4 children (ranging from 16 to 9) and a dog had the best of times. Thankyou Cornwall for not having a lockdown. We really needed a holiday this year

  • "Very pleased with the service received from Donna and her colleagues who presented the house spotlessly clean and welcoming."

The cream tea upon arrival was much appreciated. Tregithy is a traditional Cornish farmhouse, we were very comfortable and the kitchen was extremely well equipped. We were very disappointed to discover the price to re-book for the same time next year had increased by over £600 per week. On this basis we will regretfully look elsewhere.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to leave us your feedback. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Tregithey Farmhouse. We agree it's a fantastic place to stay! We are sad to hear that you will not be returning to the property. Prices of course will vary from year to year, even more so if the weeks don't exactly match the same ones you took previously. In this case, although there has been an increase, the same weeks are actually a very similar price. We do hope that you will be able to return again one day. Property Owner

We particularly liked the huge dining table, that there were two television rooms, the piano and the warm porch. The gardens were spacious and we sampled the fruit. The house was in an open sunny spot with trees and fields around and we made good use of the quay with our boats and kayaks. We all enjoyed ourselves. Only downside was that the house is about 3 miles from the nearest shop.

  • "We really loved our week in Tregithey Farmhouse."

It was perfect in so many ways. It was peaceful and down a lovely long drive. The private quay was perfect for our boats but was a bit untended and the grass very long. The garden was lovely but also untended and a bit overgrown. The house was excellent, very dated but we loved that. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were fine. A bit tricky having only one bathroom upstairs for 5 bedrooms but we didn’t mind coming downstairs to use the shower room. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed and a fabulous big kitchen table and gorgeous blue and white Cornish China. We were met with scones and clotted cream, a kind touch. Donna was so helpful and always on the end of the phone if we needed any help. The house was very clean. The only criticism I can make is that we had no idea that the barn, which is also let, is so close to the farmhouse. We thought we were by ourselves. It did not affect us but would have done if the barn had been let to a noisy party. We loved how rustic the farmhouse is and would be very sad if you had plans to do it up as it’s charm all lies in how lovely and simple and Cornish the house is. The area is fabulous with so much to explore and do and see. We loved every minute of our holiday.

  • "The property is quite dated and it is apparent visually that work will need to be done at some stage replacing windows etc, there is also a problem with the downstairs shower, whereby it does not drain properly and requires unblocking with the plunger regularly, which appears to have been an issue for some time, looking at previous review's."

However the property was spotlessly clean on arrival and is clearly well cared for by the caretakers and ticked all the boxes for our needs. We were a family of five adults, 2 teenagers and 2 12yr olds and a dog. The house is very spacious with lots of room in the kitchen and living areas. The beds are also very comfortable The grass had recently been cut directly outside the property and the track which leads to the private quay had also been recently been cleared and cut. This was useful as we took a kayak and used it to access the creek on a daily basis. There is some fantastic walking in the area both from the property and within a short drive.

The second toilet was very useful but the downstairs shower was not good. We were disappointed that tea towels and hand towels for the kitchen were not provided and hand wash in the kitchen was empty. The situation was delightful and very secluded which was lovely, but the property had a rather neglected air about it outside - weeds and brambles in the garden etc . The downstairs shower tray fills with water as you shower meaning you have to pause and use the plunger provided to clear the drainage problem before continuing and the toilet brush in this room is disgusting. The flush push button on the upstairs toilet is broken/missing and the shower screen on the bath is no longer a good seal causing floor mopping after use. We also had mice, visible in the lounge when watching television and they were heard scratching at night which was disturbing. The property is very rural and the abundance of wildlife is wonderful but not so great when it's in the lounge.

  • "This is a wonderful family cottage for a remote holiday."

It is very child friendly and has plenty of room for play, BBQ and relaxing. Boating from the private quay would be difficult IMO due to low water and land access. The cottage was very clean but the ground floor shower (not on pictures) was really a second choice and the waste run-off was slow. The utility room is very useful and has a second fridge, a freezer, washing machine and a dryer. There is ample crockery, pots and pans etc. WiFi works well. A large BBQ is available, there is plenty of storage for cycles and the second garden has ample seating. The door shown on one of the bedroom pictures leads to an external stairway in case you are wondering. Some of the rooms can be dark because the front of the house is really the back and faces high ground and trees. Dogs are allowed but we didn't detect any smell, hairs etc so you wouldn't know. The location is remote so you need to drive to the lovely local pub. I think the nearest shops are in St Kevern and the Supermarkets are at Helston (interesting little town). A Fish and Chip van arrives in Manaccan on Tues and Thur evenings (4.30 -7.30), very good but busy. Surprisingly there is no recycling. Be aware that if you venture off the main roads the lanes are extremely narrow so you don't have to be worried about reversing - you will not see a caravan! The road to the cottage is no motorway either. Nowhere is far away but it takes twice as long as you might expect. The terrain is very hilly too so if you are a cyclist be warned. Enjoy it's a lovely place.

The people who look after it could not have been more helpful even popping in to cut the grass and check that everything was ok. I really cant think of a single thing that we would have changed, other than perhaps the potion to change one of the twin rooms to a double but then it didn't occur to me to ask and the twins were comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed and there was enough room in the living rooms to move furniture around so that we could all sit together in the evenings. We checked in advance and were allowed to bring 3 small well behaved dogs which was great for us. It was the last trip for one of the dogs and I cant think of anywhere I would rather of him spent his last few days, we made some great memories and I will be eternally grateful for that.
