“We had such a warm welcome with the Christmas tree lights on, chocolates and treats for my kids and Christmas bedding for my eldest son.”

Seeing as we booked right at the last minute (on the morning of the day of arrival!) the owners went above and beyond to have the cottage ready. We had a lovely stay and would love to go back.

The property

This desirable holiday cottage can be found resting in peaceful Higher Carnkie, in easy reach of the wonderful host of amenities in Pool, Cornwall.

A detached and welcoming abode with sea views, Barn Owl is fantastically suited to families looking to explore the coast and countryside of Cornwall on a fun-filled break.

Enter inside your stone-fronted holiday home and make your way into the welcoming sitting room, a woodburning stove resting within a charming hearth awaiting to warm you up after a day of rambling, as you snuggle down into one of the two plush sofas.

Move through into the contemporary kitchen/diner and take a seat at the table for an evening of board games followed by a tasty homemade treat prepared with the ample selection of appliances at hand, the impressive SMEG range cooker being a particular delight, with a dishwasher taking care of the pots and pans too!

Also on the ground floor sits a convenient cloakroom, while the first floor boasts the family bathroom where you can enjoy a relaxing soak with a rewarding glass of wine.

Also on the first floor you will find the four well-presented bedrooms; two doubles, one with a TV, both boasting access to the conservatory where you can enjoy a quiet moment to yourself and overlook the little ones and your canine companions playing in the enclosed garden, alongside a twin and a bunk bed room, providing a fantastic sleeping arrangement for all your family needs.

The surrounding area of the property is extremely idyllic, with both a tearoom and pub welcoming you in after your days of exploring, as well as a scattering of historical landmarks worth exploring all within walking distance including the Great Flat Lode, Pascoe's Engine Houses and Wheal Basset, all offering wonderful walking routes too.

The Great Flat Lode Trail also runs past the bottom of the cottage's drive, which is perfect for walking and cycling.

Historical adventure awaits at the ancient sites of Carn Brea Castle and Carn Brea monument, while the nearby town of Camborne is the perfect place to visit for even more delightful walking routes along the South West Coast Path, Hell's Mouth and Deadman's Cave, each offering their own unique excitement well-worth discovering.

While Camborne also makes a great place for a dining experience to celebrate a special occasion, as well as providing play areas for the little ones and a train station giving you easy access to the surrounding wonders of Cornwall, Falmouth provides something for all the family, a coastal town best known for its deep natural harbour, here you can find beautiful beaches, the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Pendennis Castle with its 16th century fortress and much more, sure to offer all a day out to remember.

Other must-see beaches include the dreamy Portreath Beach and Porthtowan Beach, both a short car ride away.
