  • "The holiday property was ideal for us, three generations and the dog!"

It had everything we could need, plenty of space, very well equipped and great location. The games room was perfect for the dark evenings, we all enjoyed the table tennis and games table. We all enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend the property.

  • "Think information should be amended to say telescope not included as from reading it has been missing from 2020 due to breakage and replaced by binoculars that someone took home!"

Also be aware that Charlestown car park is private and will summons you If even one wheel is on white line.

Thank you for your feedback. The photo of the telescope has since been removed. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Property Owner

fantastic stay ,very clean everything was there for your stay and more, cream tea was great after a long journey, games room for the kids ,the view from the kitchen window ,the only thing that could improve this accomodation would be a hot tub to unwind after a long day but it was equally nice to sit in entrance hall looking at the view

  • "The accommodation was clean and comfortable and even the garden was a treat."

There was a nice welcome pack plus fresh flowers there on our arrival which was appreciated. Could do with clear instructions regarding putting the bins out and that was our only problem. Unfortunately due to the pandemic restrictions, our holiday was not as good as we would have liked. Some places remained closed and others needed booking too far in advance. This affected me more than most due to being in a wheelchair (most of the time) which limits the choice of where to go.

  • "After reading one or two poor reviews I was a bit concerned as to what we would find."

The bungalow is well equipped, very clean and is in a great location. Two large supermarkets are within a mile and half and can be easily reached on foot. The nearby village of Charlestown is beautiful and has plenty of good places to eat, all within walking distance. The bungalow is very close to the south coast footpath so plenty of of opportunities for great walks. We've had a lovely time and didn't need to venture far. Eden is just round the corner as are beaches, gin tasting experiences, coffee shops etc. Definitely worth staying here.

  • "The property was great, located in a perfect area."

Facilities were excellent within walking distance of the beach and other local facilities. There is a coastal path walk to Charlestown with stunning views. Was surprised that such a great property existed in an ideal location. This is confirmed that the property is so well booked in advance. Would not hesitate in returning.

  • "Hello, We have mixed views of this holiday house."

The location was great for us and suited our needs. Close to the beach for walking our dogs and several good restaurants in the local area. The house however is very tired and needs a thorough clean and some tlc. We did not use the shower in the en suite due to the mould around the rubber seals. The kitchen and utility were definitely in need of a thorough clean. The dining table was filthy and took 15 minutes of cleaning before we were happy to use it . The skirting boards in most rooms were filthy. The oven gloves were filthy , stained and greasy. The "games room" ( converted garage) has no heating , an uneven floor and stank of damp and sewers. We were unable to use it .There was no remote for the DVD player. The clocks had no batteries . The kitchen scales did not work. The fire did not work. The lock on the patio doors was broken and could only be locked using the top lock which involved me climbing on a chair to reach it. The bedding and towels were clean. Overall we did enjoy Devon but would not book this particular property again.

  • "Please update your photos of this property the telescope is no longer there!"

! The property is very spacious and the garden is great. The property needs some attention and a deep clean. An example of this is the baking trays were dirty and the knives were rusty.

Sadly previous guests broke both telescopes provided and so we are awaiting updated photographs of the property. The property has undergone a deep clean and always gets excellent marks for cleanliness Property Owner

Perfect for children and adults. Even if the weather is bad the children can entertain their selves in the games room. The gardens are exceptional and lots of sitting out facilities. We obviously have stayed before and will be returning. Loads of space even for 2 or 3 families. Have recommended to everyone I know.

  • "The standard of the accommodation and games room, the beach was further away than expected, we paid slightly more for this holiday than usual but felt it was worth it."

This is the first time we have booked this type of holiday as usually use a holiday camp and will look to book with Sykes cottages next year! Thank you

  • "A spacious well equipped comfortable holiday home, only a few minor niggles the electric shower control knobs in the en-suite are seized and cannot be adjusted , the single beds are not as comfortable as the king sized bed, all the sheets are not big enough for the beds and come out at night especially the single beds (fitted type recommended ), recommend a private bin collection as local authority system does not work well with holiday letting as our many years of experience with other holiday lets has revealed."

The broadband wifi is barely 5Mb this really is too low for todays expectations for this quality of property , streaming and multiple use is limited and frustrating (up to 50Mb available in the area). Fantastic garden with lots of bird life but no shade (sun parasole or similar would be useful ) when the sun has been as hot as it has this last two weeks. Games room a definite bonus for distraction purposes. Local hotel only open in the evening for meals, walk to Charlestown is rugged and not suitable for mobility impared, also no pavements to speak of. Beach is a longer walk than you think especially coming back uphill, £2 to park all day up till 5pm then free. Disabled can park at the beach with the arrangements of the attendants with a valid blue badge (I found out too late). Portable fans would be useful as an extra for hot weather I bring my own just in case and several properties are now providing them. The extra drinks fridge was an item I want at home now we can chill bottles of pop and wine standing up as well as beers cans etc. All in all a great property in a good location for lots of attractions , meals locally excellent although pricey a trip to Polgooth Inn a must (tight roads).

The cottage was very comfortable with a lovely garden. Only suggestion is that we would have appreciated night blinds in bedrooms as light from street light can disturb sleep. Also privacy blinds in bathroom should be installed.

  • "This is charming bungalow in an amazing position."

Very well equipped, everything anyone could need. Spacious and relaxing especially the snug, I loved it. Sorry there was no telescope as shown in the advertisement for the cottage which was a let down for us, as we would have brought our binoculars if we had know it was not included. I cannot fault this bungalow other than the telescope. Perfect holiday for people able to get down the 83 steps to the beach. If disabled then perfect for wheelchair access as long as you do not want to go to this beach. This in no way criticises Kerris as a lovely holiday accommodation if you are aware of the steps to the beach. Loads of patio tables and chairs. Dishwasher, 2 fridges, 1 freezer, microwave, cooker, toaster, washing machine and dryer. We loved it and would book again.

About the location

Charlestown 2 miles; Carlyon Bay 3 miles; Mevagissey 6 miles; Fowey 8 miles.

The old market town of St Austell, just a mile or two from the south coast, is famous as the historic centre of the china clay mining industry. Today, its many beaches and its sub-tropical gardens provide plenty to see and do. The wonderful Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are perfect for a family day out, and a little further afield Caerhays Castle provides a stunning backdrop to Porthluny Cove. On the edge of town, St Austell Brewery offers tours of the Victorian brewing equipment and a chance to sample the local beer, and for those looking for surf and sand, St Austell Bay has several beaches to choose from - Porthpean, Carlyon Bay, Pentewan, Polkerris - the last offering a variety of water-sports. As well as a small shingle beach, Charlestown, a pretty, historic port, often has wooden sailing ships in the harbour, and is popular as a film location. A little further afield are Fowey and its beautiful estuary to the east and the fishing port of Mevagissey to the west. With lots to do and something to keep the whole family entertained, St Austell is a great year-round destination.
