  • "Our first visit to Penzance and it couldn’t have been better."

We had a wonderfully relaxing break at Mackerel Sky. The house is comfortable, with plenty of space and well equipped. Everything you need for a great break. The location is perfect for exploring the area with great coastal walks. It was great to come back and make use of the sauna too. Also so convenient for walking into town and all the shops, pubs and restaurants. We were fortunate to get a parking space on the day we arrived and we didn’t move the car once…didn’t need to, so much to do within walking distance. The voucher for Mackerel Sky Seafood bar in Newlyn was most welcome and we had a fantastic meal there. All in all a super week. Thank you.

. only issue is parking and the noise from bin men etc but I don’t suppose there’s a lot that the owner can do about that

The is so much space and the rooms are all lovely. The sauna is fantastic and lovely on aching muscles. We will be back that’s for sure and we will recommend to everyone if they are thinking of heading to Penzance.

Tap in bathroom - very strange (like public loo!) so I cleaned my teeth using a jug of water. Very close to all amenities - great!

  • "Mackerel Sky is a lovely spacious end of terrace house, with great facilities."

We were a family of 4 with ample space. We really appreciated the drying room and sauna after a rainy beach day, and we loved the location so near to the centre of Penzance. Everything was clean, beautifully furnished, the kitchen was well stocked with great pans etc, and we would definitely come back. A week wasn't really long enough as we had so much fun and so many great beaches to visit. Highly recommend this holiday house, but please don't be too fully booked as we want to come back!

  • "Spacious house that had all the finishing touches to make our stay perfect."

Excellent location right in the heart of Penzance. Yes there is no parking but we paid for a weeks stay in the car park a 2min walk away which was no problem. Already planning our return visit.

  • "The property was lovely, large and would easily accommodate more people than our party."

We have already recommended it to friends of ours. It was clean and facilities were great, we spent 2 evenings playing board games infront of the fire when the weather wasn’t great. Perfect base for visiting beaches, St Ives and Lands End. The only issue was parking. We had a space one day but lost that as soon as we left. The other times I parked in streets close by, the listing did say no parking so it didn’t bother us but may be worth bearing in mind if others don’t feel comfortable parking their car in other streets.

  • "We were a bit worried about a previous report that it was not as clean as it could have been."

We did not find this to be the case. The house was also very well appointed and lots of thought gone into the decor to make this an attractive and comfortable holiday home. I cannot think of any facility that was lacking. Beautiful bathroom. It was in a residential area, close to the station and all that Penzance has to offer. We parked in the road and did not use the car for the time we were there. Walked to Mousehole and took the stunning rail journey up to St Ives. Large living space for 5 people. Did not use sauna or laundry facilities at the back of the house, but they looked in good order. Can recommend if you don’t mind being away from the seafront.

Although it says there is no parking we never had a problem finding a parking spot a short walk away. If you are thinking about this property I would not let it put you off.

  • "This is a lovely cottage, with all of the home comforts to make our stay enjoyable."

There were 2 issues, one of which was within the control of the owner and the other not. Parking was an problem. Shortly after arrival, we found a parking space right outside the cottage. However the 1st time we went out in the car, we lost it and were never able to regain it. This meant for the rest of the week the car was left in restricted parking areas, but fortunately we did not get a ticket! The other issue was there were areas, in particular under the beds, where the cleaning left a little to be desired - it looked a little rushed. The bedding and soft furnishings were impeccable, but the general cleaning left us wondering how much attention had been given to the current pandemic. Having said that, we all very much enjoyed our stay at Mackerel Sky.

Thank you for your feedback on Mackerel Sky which we have spoken to the owner about. Their response to your points raised are, we are very glad you enjoyed your stay. We have tried very hard to create clean, comfortable and affordable accommodation for our guests and have had very good feedback so far. With reference to your comments regarding the parking which as mentioned is out of our control - unfortunately it is and although on street parking is not always easy to find there are two car parks very close to the house which are both free between 4pm and 9am. With reference to the points raised on cleaning, we have spoken to our cleaner and regularly provide spot checks to ensure the cleaning is of the highest standard. We take Covid 19 very seriously and our cleaner spends double the amount on time cleaning to make sure everything is not only clean but also sanitised thoroughly. This is an extra cost to us which we have not passed along to our customers. Had we been notified of your concerns during your stay we would have gladly tried to rectify this for you. We would like to assure all of our guests that we take the cleanliness of our property very seriously and despite the points raised we are very glad you enjoyed Penzance and Mackerel Sky. About the location

PENZANCE

St Ives 8 miles. Helicopter to Isles of Scilly - 30 minutes

Penzance hosts Golowan, the Midsummer Carnival, and The Literary Festival. There are also The Exchange, Newlyn and Penlee Art Galleries. One of Cornwall’s most popular holiday areas is the spectacular sweep of Mount’s Bay, from the cliffside fishing village of Mousehole through Penzance and around to beautiful Marazion, the coastline hides a wealth of sandy beaches, rocky coves as well as winding village streets and other places to visit and explore. Connected by a causeway to the shore at Marazion is the National Trust’s stunningly beautiful St Michael’s Mount with its hilltop castle and Mediterranean gardens. Walk across at low water and take one of the ferry boats back when the tide is up. Penzance with its winding streets, shops, clubs, restaurants and harbour is a must as it is the jumping-off point for day trips to the Isles of Scilly as well as being the harbor. The South West Coast Path passing through Penzance winds its way along the clifftops towards Land’s End. On the way, stop off for a coffee and a rest at beautiful Lamorna Cove, explore the open air Minack Theatre and marvel at the cliffs as you approach Gwennap Head. A stunning walk for those seeking solitude, exercise and some of the UK’s best coastal scenery. Penzance is the perfect holiday base. Ideally placed for exploring this land of Celtic myth and legend and with enough to do and see in the immediate area to keep all the family occupied.
