  • "The property was spacious and comfortable Crantock is a very pretty coastal village with a beautiful beach and the gannel ideal for the children just a 10 minute walk from the property."

However there were just one or two issues we had asked for the single bed to be made up which had not been done on arrival soon sorted however after a call to Sykes office. The property is missing a few essentials No place mats for the table no cutlery tray in the dishwasher no oven gloves The drain from both the bath and shower were clogged with hair the drains do need attention. hair in the washing machine. In the second floor bedroom the sink tap was loose and the shower door was off the runner at one side the sink in that bathroom didn’t drain no waste paper baskets in any bedrooms. The neighbours were very vocal using foul language. Overall we enjoyed our stay in Crantock

Dear Bridget, Thank you for your feedback. The last week of the summer season is always a challenge to make the property 100% for a booking. The shower tray and sink were resolved immediately following your stay after it had been reported to us. There is a cutlery tray - as mentioned on the information sheet it is integrated into the top of the dishwasher. There are not any bins in the bedrooms, but they are provided in the bathrooms, which we find is suitable for the property to feel like a home, rather than a hotel. I am glad that you enjoyed your time in Crantock. Property Owner

Perfect position to explore Crantock and the surrounding areas. The kids enjoyed it so much they wanted to leave a bad review so no one else would go there

  • "How to describe a week at Eloen."

We fell in love with Crantock. The house was amazing and suited my family. It was like stepping into a home from, Which had everything we needed and more. The view from the top floor looking out to the sea everything was a wonderful way to wake up. This was our first ever booking with Sykes cottages and we are now definitely looking to come back to Eloen in 2024. The garden was lovely to enjoy in to windy evenings as it’s sheltered. 10-15 minute walk to the beach. Local shop was great. All in all we had a fantastic stay. Thank you

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Eloen and found it an ideal base for touring around Cornwall."

It was also really handy for the beach, being a short walk away, as were the Jolly Poke poppy fields, which were stunning. I would only say that if you are not used to living in a terraced house then be prepared for some noise from the neighbours. Both sides were very nice and pleasant but could be a little noisy at times. Also, be prepared for the seagulls, the curse of living close to the beach! Take a pair of ear plugs if you don't want an early wake up call and watch your belongings on the beach, they will fly off with anything that they can eat. We can recommend the Cornishman pub as a great place to eat but, book in advance if you intend to eat after 7pm as it gets very busy.

Clean property with 3 bathrooms and good kitchen. Low pressure electric shower but still worked well. Nice back yard patio that will be good for bbqs in the warmer weather.

  • "We had a great stay at Eloen."

The property exceeded expectations. The house has a welcoming and relaxing ambience, with ample space for a family. There is a generous mix of living areas to use, with the daybed and desk in the top floor master suite, study with sofa on the first floor, living room and kitchen/diner. The Crantock Christmas lights were a nice surprise, which are run throughout the village and the Round Garden in the centre. A lovely bottle of wine and a few essentials had been left in the kitchen for us by the owner. I couldn’t fault the cleanliness, and while we didn’t use the garden due to the time of year, it is clearly well cared for. The windows on the top floor are perfect for watching the weather change as it comes in across the coast. From the house you can walk down to the beach in under ten minutes, but we generally chose to take a slightly longer route up and over the dunes which has great views. We will definitely be back to Crantock and Eloen.

  • "We were very disappointed with the house it was located in an area that wasnt very nice the neighbours that lived there were noisy most evenings , the house was dirty and the towels were stained ,I'm very disappointed as we have booked through Sykes before but this has really put me off and the property was not cheap at all ."

I am sorry to see that Eloen did not meet your expectations. When you raised your concerns with Sykes the cleaner called offered to come round immediately but she was told that there was no problem. I am surprised by your comments regarding the neighbours as we know them well and previous guests have become quite friendly with them. Similarly our location is clearly identified on google maps and freely available from Sykes; I consider a property overlooking a field and a chapel a few minutes walk from the village centre and with a distant sea view to be a nice area, but I don't know what you were looking for. • "Really nice location and ample sized property."

We were pleasantly surprised with the extra toilet in the utility room as it wasn’t listed in the details. So our stay as 2 families was very comfortable, plenty of seating in the kitchen diner and extra chairs available if needed. Large drive that accommodated our estate car easily and extra parking opposite for our second vehicle. Village shop is a 2 minute walk and the locals made us very welcome. The shop is well stocked for its size and for a bigger choice Morrisons supermarket is only a 10 minute drive into Newquay. Two great pubs in the village a 5 minute walk away, we made good use of those. The beach in Crantock is outstanding and is walkable within approx 10-15 minutes. We would definitely recommend Eloen and stay here again.

  • "We had a wonderful week in Crantock at Eloen."

The house is lovely, really well equipped and furnished with a real mix of new and old antique furniture which I loved. The location is fantastic and the owner was very responsive and helpful. The top floor bedroom in particular is really nice, a very well done loft conversion that felt like a hotel suite. It was so lovely to go relax in there at night after a day at the beach, and you can see the sea and sunset from up there.

  • "Having not stayed at this property before, we were very pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and layout of the house."

Unlike a hotel room which can be somewhat bare and clinical in its feel. This house had a lovely homely feel to it, with the white walls and Van Gogh pictures it felt like a home from home. With good quality appliances and even viners cutlery. The owners even left us some basic provisions and a bottle of wine in the fridge, which we thought was a really kind thoughtful touch. It was a great layout for us and the kids with having three bathrooms (en suite in the master bedroom). Would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in the Crantock area. We will be back ourselves for sure. Regards Mr L Roche

  • "Adequate let, potentially outstanding."

Quiet location with easy access to shop, pub beach and main roads, Very comfortable beds. Bathrooms outstanding. Kitchen spacious with excellent appliances tho no user guides. BUT Fourth bedroom was a mattress on the floor with nothing else!!! Twin room had NO wardrobe space ( hooks on the wall), only a set of ancient drawers filled with old clothes; a sign the cleaning is less than adequate. “Carefully selected” Antique”furniture was old and scratched car boot quality. The heating was permanently on- outside temperature 22. James fixed it remotely but that failed. So we were HOT. Kitchen had four uncomfortable chairs, rest were foldaway chairs- for seven people? Limited crockery, so after a drink you had to wash your cup. Similarly the cutlery. Grill pan and microwave filthy- not cleaned. Back patio full of weeds Broken blinds in kitchen and bedroom. This property was finished in a hurry to cash in on the 2021 staycation boom. A few changes and a good cleaner could change it from adequate to outstanding. Sykes for the first time you disappointed us.

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately items do sometimes get damaged and we do not find out until the changeover day. I did meet with you at the property before your stay and let you know about the issue with the blinds in the bedroom, which only serve as secondary shading to the curtains. These have now been fixed. Every comment that we have previously had about the furniture and decor has been entirely positive. Unfortunately we cannot cater for every aesthetic taste, but the numerous photographs on the website give an accurate representation of the house interior, so you knew what to expect at the time of booking. The antiques are all well cared for Victorian, Edwardian, or early-20th-century pieces, and perhaps the scratches you noticed were on the intentionally distressed finish of the contemporary cream set created by a London designer. We will of course check carefully to see if there has been any damage done to the furniture that was initially in great condition. We use the house regularly ourselves, as well as checking between bookings, so we do keep a close eye on this. The fourth bedroom is a sofa bed as described, with quite a low-profile leg height, not a mattress on the floor. The garden is frequently tended, though unfortunately a week of wet weather followed by a week of heat meant that there had been a growth spurt of both wanted and unwanted plants. This was addressed following your stay, and will be kept under closer review. We apologise that the microwave was missed. We have very high standards ourselves, and sympathise with this - we expect an impeccably clean house. Unfortunately, your arriving at the house nearly two hours before your entry time asking the cleaner if you could come in put unnecessary pressure on getting everything ready for you. At the end of your stay, when the cleaner arrived to find all of the mirrors removed from the walls and placed on the floor, and almost every item of furniture other than the beds moved, he was again put under unnecessary pressure for the next guests. The heating only comes on if the inside temperature drops below the preset level, which is never higher than 22, and you can manually change it at any point from the eye-level dial in the kitchen. Due to your difficulty in doing this, though it is clearly described in the house instructions, I disabled the heating for the rest of your stay aside from 30 minutes on Friday evening when it came on to assist in drying anything you might need to pack having gone to the beach. We have found that twelve of most items has been fine for other guests, but have taken on your comment and increased the cup and glass count to sixteen. We welcome constructive feedback as it gives us the opportunity to improve the stay for others, but we also expect guests to leave the home as they found it. Property Owner

  • "The house was lovely, very clean, beautiful artwork and comfortable spaces."

Lovely kitchen with a great range of utensils, really liked the crockery! A lovely, well-tended little courtyard garden. The owners were helpful, contacting us in advance of our stay. They clearly look after the property and take pride in it, which is so great! The location is brilliant, walking distance to the beach, shop and pub. Unfortunately, we did find the mattress in the master bedroom (top floor) incredibly uncomfortable. I thought it was just me initially (I have a bad back) so swapped beds mid holiday (with the very welcome delivery of fresh sheets), but only passed the sleepless nights on - a new mattress in that (otherwise flawless) room would make a huge difference! We also found the sofa bed in in the writing room very uncomfortable, ok for a child for a couple of nights but no more that that (sleeping on a yoga mat on the floor became the preferred option).

Dear Laura, Thank you for your feedback. Mattresses are personal choices and it is very difficult to cater for everyone. For this reason we chose a medium pocket sprung mattress with topper in the master suite, medium firm pocket sprung mattress with a layer of memory foam in bedroom two and firm open coil with topper in bedroom three. I am sorry that the first two beds didn’t meet your requirements. Unfortunately the sofa bed normally has a deep topper on it which was unable to be fitted for you stay. If you stay with us again please give the third bedroom a try. The current beds were new for this year and we will regularly monitor their condition and replace as required. We hope to see you again. • "Great location not too far from the beach and a short drive into Newquay."

The accommodation itself was spacious and clean. We had a group of 5 adults and 2 children and there was plenty of space for us to sit round the table or chill in the lounge. The owners were lovely and provided us with lots of information and were very responsive when we needed help. The only suggestions I have are black out blinds in the bedrooms and a proper single bed in the small room. Highly recommended. Thanks for letting us stay.

Thank you for you feedback and I am glad to hear you had a pleasant stay. We have taken onboard your comments and since your visit we have now installed the black out blinds in the bedrooms. We do hope to see you visit again. Property Owner

  • "This was our very first holiday since the first lockdown in March 2020 and as you can imagine we were very ready and excited to get away."

Our original accommodation was cancelled due to a shared entrance and we were very disappointed as we had chosen an apartment with a sea view very carefully. Sykes were excellent in arranging and sending a variety of choices in substitution but none with the sea view we were hoping for. HOWEVER we absolutely loved ELOEN and Crantock and we could not have wished for a more comfortable and welcoming home away from home. The house was immaculate and had all the comforts of home. The beds were super comfy and the rooms very light and airy. The loft conversion master suite was wonderful. The outside area with pots of herbs and fairy lights a great place for the sundowner cocktail. Crantock is a delightful Cornish village and we were only a short walk away from the beach and amazing coastal walks were on our doorstep. We signed up for surfing lessons with The Big Green Surf School on Crantock Beach and they were absolutely fantastic. We were a little skeptical about how we would cope in the freezing cold water in April, but the wetsuits truly are remarkable. It was very helpful not having to drive to the beach, as the Crantock Car Park is quite small and there is often a queue to get in and out. The cargo truck cafe on Crantock Beach is delightful perfect for coffee and sandwiches. The Albion Pub in the village is also great, although it was pretty chilly sitting outside for our first dinner out since last year!. We didn't manage to try Jam Jar Cafe in Crantock (the pizza's are apparently amazing) but we picked up coffee and pastries at their Newquay outlet. We hope that we can visit again and would definitely stay at Eloen again.
