  • "Grandpa Dicksons is a really lovely home from home to stay while exploring Cornwall, our dog had a great time enjoying all the walks and beaches nearby."

The property was roomy, light and airy, beds are comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with everything you would need. A few small gifts of doggy treats, tea bags, bottle of alcohol free drink, biscuits, on arrival was extremely thoughtful. We will be using your site again in the future for a large family holiday in 2025.

  • "Overall property was excellent for where it was, for outlook, facilities and comfort."

Was let down on two main areas: a) hot water supply to main bathroom was poor, e.g. impossible to have one shower directly after another or shower after having had bath. Consequence was that small electric shower room had to be used by us all - something we wanted avoid having come together from 2 households in a family bubble (COVID-19). Had also anticipated super clean accommodation partic because of Covid - however property had clearly not had a deep clean for a long time, ingrained dirt obvious. Having said that, kitchen/bathroom facilities were satisfactorily clean, bed linen/towels were clean. Suppose just expected better with Covid, but no special efforts obvious. Owner courteously rang us on arrival to say hello and there was welcome milk, biccies for us.

Thank you for staying with us at Grandpa Dickson’s. It was lovely to chat with your party on the phone that first evening and to hear your enthusiasm and appreciation of Grandpa Dickson’s. It was kind of you to say that you can tell when something is prepared to the highest quality. We are so sorry to hear that you subsequently had difficulty with the water. We can only think that perhaps you didn’t use the “boost” function? (This is labelled beside the bathroom). Grandpa Dickson’s is an eco-friendly house that heats water using the Economy7 system during the night. This usually provides enough water for a day however the system is easily boosted to heat further using the button by the second bathroom. We have checked with subsequent guests who say all has worked well. To supplement the signs, we will ensure we also explicitly mention this boost facility to all future guests. Thank you for asking about cleaning. We are spending hours extra each week to deep clean the cottage. In all areas of hygiene, we are going beyond the recommendations. For example, each week, all of the cushions, pillows, throws and duvets (not just the covers!) are rotated out of the cottage and new ones brought in. With these steps and many others, you can be sure that the cottage was thoroughly and hygienically prepared for you. We hope that this response is reassuring. You are always warmly welcomed at Grandpa Dickson’s. Property Owner

we were hoping to walk in regularly with a toddler but that is definitely a no go. Although the lodge is on a street with a few other properties it is still really private. I wouldn’t advise walking down there with dogs or children and feel this should be highlighted in the details. Also some general maintenance on the decking is required as some of the wood is rotting particularly near the gate. *************************************************************************************************************** Owner response : I have been in touch with Sykes and I have amended the description of our property due to your feedback.
