"We had a lovely stay at Coles cottage."
The cottage was spacious, comfortable and felt like a home from home experience. It was well equipped with kitchen necessities and we arrived to some beautiful home baked scones with clotted cream and jam, which was extremely welcoming. There were plenty of towels and lovely blankets on the beds that we could cosy under on the sofas in the evenings. The children loved the fact that there was a Wii at the property and enjoyed playing this at the end of a busy day out. My only regret was that we didn't stay longer in order to explore the extensive record collection. It was a perfect base to explore the surrounding areas like Bude, Boscastle and Tintagel. Loved the fact there was a piano at the property also, which my girls, and husband enjoyed playing daily. We will definitely come back here. Not forgetting the beautiful spacious gardens, where the girls enjoyed playing. This was a beautiful bonus to the property. Thanks for a lovely stay and we will see you again soon!
"Fresh scones and clotted cream when we arrived and jam plus ."
The children love the size of the house, seven of us plenty of space. The kids played hide and seek all week. The welcoming feeling of this cottage is wonderful. The owners are lovely people and very helpful. Can’t say how much we love this cottage.. very central for Cornwall and Devon. Excellent location. Would definitely stay here again.
"The property had a lovely, peaceful garden to relax in, with swallows flitting all around, and plenty of seating available."
It also stayed cool in the heatwave which was welcome. A massive record collection for those who like vinyl and plenty of books too The property was clean enough to be healthy without being so spotless that you couldn't relax. Some of the beauty spots required a bit of driving, but no doubt that is reflected in the price.
"Thanks for a lovely stay at Coles Cottage!"
We loved every minute and could see this as a holiday house we would enjoy at all times of year. We just happened to be very lucky with the weather and spent every evening in the gorgeous cottage garden. It was perfect for our youngest guest - the garden was ideal for him running around safely. It was an ideal layout for our family - the tall ones needed to mind their heads in a few places but this is understandable as it's a period property. I can't forget to mention that Shiela's welcome scones were to die for! We'd love to come back sometime and thanks again for such a fab break.
"We had a lovely stay at Coles Cottage for the week."
The house was very comfortable and big, the garden with its beautiful flowers was also gorgeous to sit in with a cuppa. It was super clean everywhere. The rooms were good sized and the beds very comfortable. we struggled with the bathroom as it has a very low beam in the doorway to enter and as taller people (5ft 8 and my husband 6ft 4 and daughter of 5ft 7) we had several bumps in our heads, you are best to walk down 2 steps into the room backwards. the shower is also low for taller people and we had to constantly stand crouched to use it, and isn't very powerful so did take a while to use. it's all reflected as its old cottage, with all original built features so was to be expected really, it took some getting used to for us. The kitchen had everything you could need. Thank you to Shelia for the lovely delicious Scones that were waiting for us, was such a treat. it was a central place to stay and most places just a 20 minute drive away, bude beaches our particular favourite place and tintagel fir a castle visit and wonderful views was further out but well worth it. The little village had most things needed to pop in, but check times of closing as we are spolit having things open whenever we need. We really enjoyed our holiday in Devon and all it had to offer.
"The property is someones home, and rented out this is reflected by the facilities and general homliness of the cottage."
The property is bigger than the photo's suggest, for such a large property the cleanliness of every room is credit to the housekeeper. We felt at home.feom.the minute we stepped inside. The complimentary homemade scones, cream, and jam was.a nice thought, which we enjoyed. We ordered food.to.he delivered by Morrisons and the driver was very helpful in bringing the groceries to the door. The location was.perfect, for whilst this is in North Devon, North Cornwall is.only a few miles.away, Bude for.example.was.15-20 minutes away. The.home owners record collection is a sight to behold.an interesting book collection too. We will.be seeking to book this property out again, no.doubt about that.
"Fantastic cottage full of character, the photos don’t do this place justice!"
! Would definitely stay there again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others. Good location for numerous attractions and Bude is only a short drive away.
"Beautiful cottage home from home."
Surprisingly more spacious than photos show. Very comfortable and has everything you need and more. Perfect location for exploring both Devon and Cornwall. Would definitely recommend. And would stay again.
"Coles cottage manages to be spacious and cosy at the same time."
It was a lovely space to spend time with the family - 3 generations. The double bedroom on the ground floor with patio doors was great for Granny, her own space to escape lively grandchildren. The well established garden was a lovely oasis with enough space for adults to chill and children to frolic. Huge selection/range of books and also games for the family. We really felt welcomed. Would like to return when it's cooler to try out the lovely looking wood-burner in the living room.
"We have just come back from Coles Cottage, a family of 2 adults and 2 young boys (4 & 7)."
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the beautiful and very quirky cottage. The original part of the cottage has slightly slanting steps and landing, which we got used to quite quickly. The parking is easy and in a large area. Sheila and David are the housekeepers and are both lovely and are easy to get hold of to help via email/phone or popping round with homemade scones! There is a new double bed in the room downstairs and 3 sofas in the living room. The cottage is very well equipped, lots of utensils, mirrors, cleaning products etc, especially the kitchen which exceeded our expectations. The 2 bathrooms/toilets are very useful and the shower is wonderful but if you are quite tall you wouldn't be able to stand up in it as there are many low ceiling areas. The garden is pretty, large and private, the boys enjoyed an easter egg hunt there and the road was unexpectedly busy including a main bus route although it looks very quiet. We didn't mind the traffic as it drove straight past as it wasn't excessive and didn't distract us when we were enjoying sunny weather in the garden. There are original windows, no double glazing and lots of old books, maps, games, paper and stationary etc as per the description. Lots to look at whilst relaxing. The only things that would have made the stay even better would be a blind on the kitchen window as it gets very sunny and hot in there and a larger tv, it is only 21" or 24" and a separate dvd player as the one on the television is temperamental and sometimes doesn't work at all and cuts out the sound. This is a minor thing though. There are no recyling bins for card/paper/plastic either, which would have been better if there was somewhere to put it but Sheila said to leave it in a bag and she would sort it out. The cottage instructions are a bit out of date in some areas. All in all a really beautiful cottage, the pictures don't do it justice and a lovely part of the country, close to Waitrose in Holsworthy and nearby Bude and Bideford., a recommended stay.
"On the whole, it was a lovely cottage, and we had a really great holiday."
However, the cottage is listed as being suitable for 6 adults and 1 child, and we did not find this the case. The sofa bed was at least 20 years old, and sloped into a v with a 1 inch thick mattress. I tried sleeping on this with my three year old son, and we just sank into the middle and it was extremely uncomfortable, there is no way you could sleep on it for a week. We resorted to pulling the cushion out of the sofa bed, and just putting it on the floor, however when you are paying for a cottage, you don't really want it to feel like camping. This could be easily fixed by putting a double bed in this room, as we did not use the room for anything else other than sleeping, as there was plenty of space in the rest of the cottage. The shower was also a little disappointing, as it would cut out if anyone flushed the downstairs toilet, or if the washing machine was on. For the taller ones amongst our party it was also a little low down, but this was hard to avoid due to the character of the building. We loved the records, games and books and our children really enjoyed playing in the large garden. There was plenty of seating, a bbq and the kitchen was well equipped. We also enjoyed the scones jam and cream on arrival.
"Because of the location of the cottage and narrow lanes around (with no footpaths) it was very difficult to walk directly from the cottage."
"Exceptional cottage full of character."
Wonderful beaches and coastal walks.
"Excellent cottage, location and very friendly service."
Absolute value for money
"A wonderful 'home from home' cottage."
We loved Coles Cottage! It's everything you'd want in a holiday home. Highly recommended!
.even better than the first. A really comfortable cottage with everything one could want for a holiday stay...and more. A spacious cottage of great character and uniqueness. An immense collection of books and records of varying interest...a kitchen full of equipment with drawers containing many extras....paperclips, battery chargers, pens, pencils etc. The garden is spacious and self contained...our grandchildren loved it. Ideally situated for the beachers of Bude and Widemouth Bay ...Boscastle, Clovelly within reasonable reach....The Milky Way, the Big Sheep, Hidden Kingdom ...family attractions //not too far. Intend to return again and enjoy ourselves and the cottage even more the third time.
