  • "We had a very relaxing stay in No1 Horizon view ."

On arrival we went to the wrong gate first as signage wasn’t very clear and the gate code was the same ! Eventually found along the road and found our lodge to be just by the entrance . On arrival the lodge has a lovely feel . Plenty of space , nice furniture and modern kitchen . We thought it was quite unusual to find 2 baths and massive shower for just 2 people !! Bed was really comfy and bedroom stylish . The only points we would like to make is 1/ there were no instructions to turn heating on / off up or down . It was a cold weekend and at times it was very chilly . Especially when coming in and out from the hot tub . 2/ The tiles in the en-suite shower looked really quite mouldy so I ended up wiping them all down with anti bacterial wipes and looked much better . It made such a difference so was surprised that it had been left like that and the only other thing we noticed is that the flooring was showing signs of wear in places . All in all we had a fab stay , we would definitely like to stay again at some point

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your review, we take note of the points mentioned and have looked in to them. We are glad you enjoyed the space and all the other elements of the accommodation. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

very clean & smelt lovely! the water is impressively hot aswell. the hot tub was so relaxing & huge! the only thing it needed was a coat hook in the living room or even in the cupboard, the only ones were on the back of the bathroom doors but that’s where the dressing gowns where kept. lots of light options if you don’t want every single light on, apart from that so relaxing to get away & contact free! defo book again next year. Directions were great. Hot tub was amazing. Only negative was the sky lights in the bedroom - no blinds for them and as a light sleeper was awake at the crack of dawn every day as the room filled with light - not ideal when on holiday.

Very happy with the regular maintenance of the hot tub for peace of mind. He came early every morning but only took a minute or two. The property was extremely clean and well presented throughout. Lovely furniture and tasteful decor. We will definitely be returning in the future, can't wait to book again!

  • "The place was absolutely lovely and the stay safe was everything we wanted!"

A few things could do with improving. On arrival we found that most of the handles on door were loose and some extra attention to cleaning would’ve been appreciated, mainly in the sky lights as some had cobwebs in the corners. Though everything else was what we wanted and more, we would 100% come back.

  • "After a five hour drive it was great to arrive at 1 Horizon View and everything be ready so that we could unpack and get straight into the hot tub, which was an absolute delight after a long day."

The cottage is in a very private location and not overlooked by any other lodges, although the rare lorry and bus that pass may get a slight view but that didn't affect us at all and the hot tub had plenty of use over the week and we did not have any issue with the daily checks, in fact it was reassuring to know the tub was clean and safe. The lodge itself was excellently equipped and finished to a high standard and having a bath each was a luxury we weren't expecting at all. The bed was super comfortable with a perfect mattress for us, the only downside to this was the Velux window above the bed so the sun shone through early in the morning but that was just a minor irritation and the plus side of this was seeing the stars if you wake in the night. Location wise it is perfect for travelling to the North or South Cornwall coast with Padstow being around 40 minutes and Looe around 20 minutes, both definitely worth a visit as are so many other places in the area. We have never rebooked a holiday home previously but will certainly be booking 1 Horizon View again in the future

  • "My partner and myself stayed at 1 Horizon View last week (Wed – Friday) and I felt the need to reach out as we left feeling disappointed with our stay, as we had issues 3 days in a row."

Wednesday We arrived at just gone 4pm after a 4 hour drive and at first couldn’t be more thrilled. We had our plan for our time in Dobwalls organised (as I had arranged activities / dinners etc elsewhere) so Wednesday was going to be our night to just stay in and enjoy ourselves, mostly looking forward to spending hours just relaxing in the hot tub as we both have been working fulltime throughout the whole pandemic. Long story short the Hot tub was unusable. It was 22 degrees or so when we arrived, (you recommend 36-38) and by the time 11.30pm had rolled around we gave it one more shot at 33 degrees and was still unusable. We were absolutely gutted. Thursday After shaking off the disappointment of the night before we went out to do our pre planned activities and finally came back to relax in the hot tub for a few hours. Considering the privacy the space / backyard offers we felt comfortable with changing near the doors to the outside etc. Again, long story short, out of nowhere a man appeared at the hot tub to check the chlorine. He did not knock the door, he did not shout out that he was there, we were not called / emailed / given a letter to say a man would be coming, he just appeared in the backyard an started playing with the hot tub when we had just been getting out / changing no more than 30 minutes before. It’s safe to say this was quite shocking, and this left us paranoid and feeling like we had no privacy for the rest of the trip. This no longer felt like our little get away, we felt like anyone would be coming and going as they pleased. Friday By Friday morning we had once again decided to shake off the disappointments we felt the past 2 days and as we were unable to use the hot tub on Wednesday decided to have one last dip in it to try and get our monies worth before we left at 10am. You can imagine our disbelief when at 8am we went to the backdoors to go out to find pool cleaning supplies all around the hot tub. Not able to be used once more and once again someone was in our private space without warning. As we decided to just have breakfast and leave as we were now angry, it was even more disturbing that as we cooked our meal, ate at the table and tidied the place, the man was just walking around and cleaning the hot tub, all of us in full view of each other. Was he not told we checked out at 10am? Why was he here before then, almost making us feel like we were being rushed / kicked out? The place itself was a dream, perfection almost and we cannot and will not take that away from the experience. We had absolutely everything catered to our needs and without the issues we had would be 10/10 no questions asked. However having booked this to originally be coming Dec/Jan, and waiting so long to finally come (of course the moving dates was not your fault) but instead of cancelling and getting a refund, I paid hundreds more pounds to be able to still come, which given the choice again now I would not have. Not only were we only able to use the main attraction 1 out of 3 days we should have had the option to use it, we felt no privacy, and no respect from the workers / the company. Why was it acceptable to have a stranger walking around in our private space 2 days in a row and not just wait until we had left? Or why weren’t we at least told? Considering how much I ended up paying for this trip, and the shortfalls that occurred, I find the whole thing unacceptable which is so disappointing as we have had so many people reach out and ask where this beautiful place was, and we haven’t been able to recommend Horizon view due to these issues. Should these issues be resolved, or you would be willing to compensate us in a way we deem fair for the issues we’ve had, we would of course love to come back many times over, but as things stand we couldn’t be sad that this trip ended so badly.

  • "We had a lovely time at Horizon View, the view from the Cottage & hot tub were beautiful, it was nice to see the site maintenance guy testing and treating the hot tub and on our final day he came and asked if we had finished with the hot tub?"

Then it was drained ready for cleaning & for the people arriving later that day. The bed was clean and comfortable so we slept well & the walk in shower was the best shower I’ve ever used. Horizon View gave us everything we needed for a self contained holiday & was a good jumping off point for Looe and Fowey which were only a short drive away. I would definitely recommend Horizon View & will use Sykes Cottages again.

Telephoned the out of hours number (as quoted in the information pack & main reception recorded message) - this diverted into voicemail. Waited hour & half with no response. Discovered an alternative number stuck to keypad at main gate. Manager claimed not to have received our messages. We were unable to flush toilet or wash/shower. Manager later advised that pipe had disconnected but this was not resolved until the afternoon. Very unsatisfactory method in place for dealing with problems. The information pack & recorded message should be updated & provide the correct out of hours number. Standard of cleaning in bedroom was poor. Dust on top of pictures & restaurant business card discovered under bed. Other than the above two issues everything was fine. The hot tub was cleaned every day & was fantastic

On the second night of our stay, we discovered the water had cut out and nothing was working. The sinks, showers and toilets did not work. I could not get hold of the general manager until the next day. When I was finally able to explain the problem, it was an hour before our checkout time. He apologised and explained he would sort out a refund for us. I have tried to contact the number I was given a number of times and I have sent an email but still have heard nothing back.

The tea and coffee was a nice gesture after a long journey too. It felt very private but we were next to the road and there was some road noise. I don’t think this would have stopped us from booking but maybe it should be mentioned in the description as it could bother some people. There are two bathrooms which was a nice surprise, his and hers lol. The main problem with this lodge is the bed, which others have mentioned too. It was so noisy, every time you moved it creaked. Please please get this sorted, it really lets the lodge down. If this was done we would definitely book this lodge again.

The quality of the furnishings and facilities were fantastic and the view was spectacular. So relaxing to sit out on the decking and just take in the surroundings. The spa pool/jacuzzi was so nice! We jumped in every morning and after a long day out in the evening. The site itself was so tranquil and peaceful that you hardly knew anyone else was there, only for a few cars parked outside the lodges. We felt totally refreshed after our week there and were so sad to leave the place. We were so impressed that we booked up for a week in September. Altogether a lovely relaxing holiday in a great location to visit many attractions in Cornwall. Nice pub down in village, within walking distance and also a very handy convenience store if you haven't stocked up in Morrisons, which is only a ten minute drive away. Very impressed with the experience and how smoothly things were organised through Sykes. Plenty of information and handy tips. Many Thanks....Jim & Shirley Lee

  • "I did find a few dirty areas that had not been cleaned."

There was food reminence in the cutlery tray and some of it was dirty and unwashed. There were crumbs under the dining table and also a hair on the bed sheets. Overall we love staying here but I do think last time was better the hot tub man was at our lodge before 10 and I found that off-putting. Also didn't think it was good that the hot tub was closed on Monday morning as we might of wanted to go in it before we left. My main issue is the velux windows not having blinds. We were awake at 6.00 every day because of the light coming through which isn't what you expect or want when your on holiday. Also when we last stated and it was managed by Blue chip they left a welcome pack which had a pint of milk and bottle of wine which I thought was very nice which we didn't receive this time. We do like this lodge alot which is why we came back again but I'm not sure we would come back anymore because I don't want to be woken up by the light when we are having a child free weekend. I did call and report it and was told nothing could be done.

  • "We had a lovely break away at 1 Horizon View."

Just perfect for two. There is plenty of space but there is still a really cosy feel about the place. The hot tub was an added bonus and the views from this lodge were amazing. A little bit of feedback to the owners would be that a few blankets in the living room would be beneficial as it can get a little chilly and some blinds for the velux windows in the bedroom wouldn’t go a miss to block out out the light of a morning. It’s also worth mentioning that as well as the listed facilities, there is an iron and ironing board and a hair dryer for use. There is also a second bathroom which is seen on the images, but the listing says 1 bathroom. It is also worth taking a few cleaning products, washing up liquid, disinfectant wipes, dishwasher tablets etc. as there was only 2 tea towels, 2 dishwasher tablets and a sponge left for use.

the only thing I would suggest is maybe getting blinds to fit the windows in the roof? because in the bedroom they are right above the bed and we were awake at 6:30 every morning because of the light! but as always, these probably won’t bother most people and just a personal preference! overall was a lovely get away in a peaceful location!
