  • "This is our second time staying here and we have booked to stay over Christmas."

We just love it here. Last time I left feedback about the spa bath with mound coming from the jets… it was much better this time but towards the end of our stay the bath was starting to fill up with it again. The spa tv was working this time which was great. It did make a difference so hoping the remote will still work by Christmas. I can’t explain how much we love it here. All the facilities are great.

  • "It was perfect!"

We came for our honeymoon as we could bring our dog with us and it didn’t disappoint. It was bigger and better than we expected. Couldn’t fault it. The only improvement I would say would be to include a drone picture to show just how big the lodge and the the garden area is. Thankyou!

  • "Beautiful property in an amazing location, loved the sauna, the cinema room."

The TV in the living room was amazing also and the jacuzzi bath was nice apart from the black bits coming out the jets we did do this 4 times to try clean it but to no avail, the remotes for the tv and sound system in the cinema room need new batteries or to be replaced as they barely worked same with the one in the jacuzzi room. It was such a beautiful lodge and we not hesitate to book again, did have an issue before arriving regarding the booking but it was resolved and had a wonderful stay for my boyfriends birthday

  • "The place is fantastic and very spacious."

The only downside to the place was the settee is not very comfortable and as previous people had said there are black bits that come out of the jets in the bath. We enjoyed it so much that we have booked again in May to go to a different one with a hot tub as the weather should be warmer by then.

  • "I'll do negatives first, many reviews talked about the black mould coming out of the bath, and this continues to be the case."

We let the jets go for about 10 mins when we arrived to flush them out. There's some poor dead flies trapped in the bathroom television and the odd few stains (e.g. looks like someone spilt coffee down the wall in the cinema room and by the sofa). Other than that, its a gorgeous lodge with great amenities and we had a wonderful time away. The sauna was a little bit of luxury and the roof decking was beautiful. Absolutely would not hesitate to visit again.

  • "We will definitely be back."

Only downside was we had to run the bath once, run the jets and then empty and refill as when I was using it the first time there was a lot of mould coming from the jets, but was easy enough to sort and it didn’t ruin our stay. Apart from that the whole lodge was amazing and exactly what we needed for a break away.

  • "We absolutely loved our stay."

We didn’t want to go home. We will definitely be coming again. Our stay was so quiet and peaceful. The photos don’t do the property justice as much better in person. My only couple of faults was the tv remote didn’t work for the jet spa tv and the jet spa let out black bits of mould. We were very happy with our stay.

  • "Great property, a lot of the remote had bad batteries, specifically the cinema room and the bathroom TV."

Also in the cinema room the sound bar was hanging off the wall and one of the cables was very fraid and you could see the silver walls on the inside cable. Could do with some extra glasses and cooking equipment

  • "On initial looks, we were blown away by the lodge!"

We were surprised at how spacious it was inside and were very excited to start our stay. Then after a day or two, we started to notice the issues. The door leading from the living area into the bathroom/bedroom area, didn’t shut properly. Which for us, with two dogs sleeping in their beds in the living room, was an issue as they could push the door open. We had issues with the neighbouring lodge (small child, no older than 3, and small dog roaming freely around our lodge grounds, very loud music at 11pm etc) and had no one to report this too, as there is no reception on site and the sister camp states to only call during the hours of 8pm-9am if there is an emergency. The day after we arrived, we were greeted by a maintenance man who informed us he needed access to our lodge, in order to reseal our shower tray. He said it would be easier for us to be out of the property for him to do so. We asked if it was possible for him to come back at around 1-2pm as we had plans for the day and we’re planning to be out by that time, to which he replied “no, that will be too late for me I’m afraid.” The job didn’t take long and we were very confused as to why it wasn’t done the previous day, during the hours in which the lodges are “cleaned” and set up for the next people? The lodge was adequately equipped, although another baking tray or two would of been handy. No mixing bowl or jug, we had to purchase our own. All in all we had a lovely holiday and really enjoyed the luxury aspect of the lodge. But with the money we paid we weren’t expecting to be making any complaints.

  • "Firstly, I must say the property is extremely well located, furnished, equipped, comfortable and clean."

Perfect for a holiday lodge, also nice touch with little welcome pack. We would certainly return now we know how things work :) Unfortunately, you will spend a lot of time trying to work out things such as Jacuzzi, Sauna, heating controls, lighting (light switches) etc. I did make this comment a few times but was told due to COVID an instruction an advice note could not be left. I don’t understand this? as a folder with the manufacturer’s instructions, for TV, Dishwasher, oven, Microwave etc is left in the lodge? What would be essential for all guests to this particular property, thus avoiding time wasting or frustration is a quick guide. It can be emailed if COVID is an issue? This is a benefit to the owner to avoid any misuse. The generic PDF sent is not particular to this property, it even mentions restaurants etc which are on another site 10 miles away which is closed! What is needed on arrival is: Wi-Fi Details (which Wi-Fi) as there is a camp wide but again you are not sure which one. Jacuzzi instructions Sauna instructions Heating controls (There are 3 one is for rads the other two underfloor heating) TV in Jacuzzi doesn’t work, we manage to get on after buying new batteries for the remote, but then we could not switch it off, so we gave up. Also, dead flies behind the glass. Lights in Cinema room, the switches and the LED controllers General lights be aware some are dimmable some are not, like the extractor fan and light in the shower. The cushions for the sun deck seating were no where to be found, and no reply when asked where there were? I see form other people that stayed that they were mouldy if left out, there is enough room for a box so cushions can be put away and stored. Local info on shops etc. Please be aware that all the TVs in the area are the same LG, so when someone (neighbours) wants to share their tablet or phone to the TV it will appear on yours constantly if they i.e., Joe iPhone wants to share. Its Ok if your technical minded for all equipment in the lodge, but for someone who is not a lot more time can be wasted.

  • "Lovely site."

Excellent location from which to explore Central and SE Cornwall. Modern well designed lodge. However.......... Water jets in jacuzzi squirted black mould. Had obviously not been properly checked after lockdown restrictions lifted. Was it a TV or a mirror by the jacuzzi? No remote control or instruction. No DVD player anywhere. Property has a cinema room and the booking confirmation led us to believe a DVD player was available. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video were available, but not clear whether included in price or previous holidaymakers subscription. Modern well equipped kitchen, but not enough crockery and dishes to fill the dishwasher. Minimum amount of cutlery and utensils. A few pots and pans. Nowhere to hang tea towels. Only one hand towel and bath towel each. Nowhere in shower room or (tiny) W.C. to hang towels or dressing gowns. No cupboard to store suitcases. Only six hangers in wardrobe. These complaints may seem minor but it is 2021, and while the holiday sites and lodges are bang up to date, it would seem that when it comes to providing basic kit the attitudes are still back in the 60s holiday camps and B & B's. The UK does not have the climate advantages of the Med, Canaries etc., and a week at Southern Halt can be more expensive than a week all-inclusive in Egypt or Majorca, therefore we expect the highest standards and are rightly disappointed when we feel these aren't met.

The park itself is beautiful, quiet, well kept and secluded. The lodge....Wow! From the moment we stepped through the door it was immaculate, we worked out how to use most of the facilities such as the sauna, jacuzzi, oven etc but this was mainly due to covid restrictions of no welcome pack to be left so no fault to yourselves. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you could need and lovely touch of fresh milk and refreshment pack available to us on arrival. The bed was huge and very comfortable. We can't wait to rebook.

great location fro traveling to various locations ,stives 45 mins looeand polperro 25 mins , newquay 45 mins etc the roof terrace is great especially if the sun is shining which it was fr us, only issue with roof terrace they leave the cloth cusions on the sun beds so they was soaking and had muld spots ons due to obviousy left out in all weathers. cinema room is good call and was used the huge bath was fantastic and the sauna. the lodge smelt clean and fresh especially with covid. few ares need looking at lie little things cookers hood could see was only cleaned to where could be reached so was marks and debris build up where areas missed. and a few dead flys.vlue bottle , midges etc but the location there is a lot of flyig insects. the washer wasnt working and from previous feedback going back to october its not changed. overall fantastic location and place and looking at 2 weeks there next year .

Unfortunately the washing machine did not work and although we reported it on the Monday it didnt get fixed.Engineer came to have a look and said he would get a technician out,but we didnt hear anymore. Can I suggest that the site management keep customers informed of the progress.Wasnt great for us as we had another week booked elsewhere in Cornwall .Luckily their washing machine did work. Other issues, double patio door reported as not closing and we were given the impression that the issue had been reported before ,but not been fixed.Shame as couldn't use the veranda that had the chairs and table on it. Roof terrace was lovely and great place to soak up some sun.Previous guest also had dogs and unfortunately had let their dog poo on the terrace and forgotten to clean it up,but as we are also dog owners it wasnt a problem to clean it.Maybe the cleaners need to check upstairs as well!! Cleanliness was ok although cooker hood had not been cleaned for a long time. Generally ok place ,but could do with a decent sofa as uncomfortable and too small. Would we return? Not sure as so many other beautiful places in Cornwall. We have been visiting Cornwall for the last 30 years and although Southern Place was probably the most modern place we have stayed in it wasnt necessarily the best.

The lodge was unbelievable, it looked even better in person than what it did in the photos. The weather was a bit hit and miss so we didn't get to use the roof top as often as we'd like due to a lot of wind and rain but never the less, it was still a perfect stay. The hot tub bath was a massive bonus and we took full advantage of this during our stay. We took our dog with us and she settled it perfectly, having the outside space was an added bonus as she could stretch her legs and do her business as though we were home in our own back garden. The only negative is that the washing machine didn't work, we only got one set of towels each for 7 nights so hoped to wash these during our stay but had no luck. Would highly recommend this site to family and friends and will likely book another stay ourselves in the near future

The huge jacuzzi bath was fantastic, even if it did take a while to fill it up, and the sauna was a lovely touch too. However, the cinema room was excellent with incredible sound and a huge selection of movies, box sets and TV via Netflix, Freeview and Prime Video. Only down side.....no corkscrew! We improvised and managed to open the wine though

The Jacuzzi, sauna x cinema room was just perfect, in the summer months i can just imagine the upper Sun Terrace complete with table chairs and sunbeds would be perfect too. Easy to reach many places of interest and seaside fishing villages including Looe, Fowey, Port Isacc and Mevagissey to name a few. Would definitely recommend and we'll definitely return ourselves.

  • "We had the best little break."

Absolutely loved the lodge. The only let down with the cleanliness was the amount of flies behind the bedside tables/in the bath/sauna. We soon cleaned that up though- don’t think we had cleaners in before we arrived. We phoned various numbers to try and get a 3rd towel (for our toddler) and eventually got through to someone at the old mill pub. When I asked this lady for a towel, I was met with a confused response of ‘what do you mean a towel?’ and continued to be baffled by this simple request. We eventually got the 3rd towel. Other than those two things, we honestly had a lovely stay and will be sure to recommend and return. Chantelle Hawthorne
