Liked 3 seating areas, secure for dogs on two decks and private garden. Loved cinema room & jacuzzi tub. Would suggest a parasol, sun shades for top deck as was so hot we couldn’t use it until evening.

  • "Second stay at 2 Southern Place."

Great place to stay to explore Cornwall and South Devon. Comfortable lodge, great facilities. A couple of areas getting ready for some TLC. Cleaning cold be better, a few cobwebs knocking about, the sun terrace had an empty bottle and one full of water and cigarette buts left up there and loads of leaves which had obviously been there ages. The lack of cleaning equipment remains. One dish cloth and tea towel for a 2 week stay is not sufficient. Toilet cleaner really is a must too. But we were prepared and packed our own. All in all a nice place and a lovely holiday.

  • "Just back from a fantastic stay."

I felt at home and settled in right away. Really enjoyed using the sauna and Jacuzzi. The cabin was warm, cosy and contained modern entertainment and kitchen equipment. Unfortunately the weather prevented me from using the upper deck which would be fabulous during the sunny months. The cabin had a large private garden area which was great for the dogs. The site is well maintained and is secure. There is a local Spar in Dobwalls and Morrisons, B&M, Argos on the A38 at Liskeard. Locals recommend using the Trago Mill Stores which I didn’t get chance to visit but I’m told sell everything. Location is in easy reach of the Eden Project, Camel Valley Vinyard, Polperro and St Austell. In conclusion, a lovely stay and would come back.

Thank you for your great review, we are glad you had a fantastic time and that your dogs were also able to enjoy their stay. We look forward to welcoming you back again. Property Owner

Perfect location with so many attractions close by. Only criticism was the state of the lodge. The bath was dirty and had hair in it and some facilities broken like the freezer door. The cinema room wall are abit grubby also. But overall an amazing stay about from the cleanliness.

Apart from one cobweb the lodge was very clean and did not smell of animals and no pet hairs were noticed. A useful welcome pack was provided. Consider whether this should include a couple of spare AAA batteries? Just a few comments. The useful working DVD player, and a range of DVDs, kindly provided by the owner in the cinema room was not advertised (not shown in photos or listing). Unfortunately, the controller was partly damaged and the batteries were flat - I had to keep swapping batteries between this and the controllers to access functions. Perhaps I should have remember to bring some, but it would be nice if one spare set of batteries were provided in the lodge for the price? No towel hook in the toilet. No dressing table seat in the bedroom. Overall a very nice property which was well maintained, clean and tidy.

Some milk was left at the property which was nice. Also coffee, tea, dishwashing tablets, biscuits and dishwashing liquid. Very nice. Loved the cinema room - in fact that was my favorite place. I loved the location - quiet and calming. Traveling around was easy and there is a Morrisons just 7 mins down the road. I really enjoyed my stay - and I’ve booked again for February 2022. Also thank you for the amazing service from Sykes.

  • "The accommodation was lovely, bigger than expected and really liked the open plan living."

The jacuzzi bath and sauna were a lovely touch. After reading other reviews, we’d seen that there were no cleaning supplies at the property so we took our own - however, if you’re expected to leave the property as when you arrived these should really be supplied. Great that a travel cot and high chair were provided as we took our toddler. We also took our dog - as the cottage was dog friendly it would be good to have somewhere on site that you can let your dog off their lead. The area was a little secluded so not the best place to walk your dog. Overall we had a lovely stay and would return if there was more nearby (we spent most of our time around the North coast due in to there not being much around the area especially for young children). The site was much larger than we expected so we were a little surprised there wasn’t any facilities i.e park/shop/restaurant.

  • "2 Southern Place is a really impressive luxury cottage in the quiet Cornish country side and would recommend it to anyone, but there are just a few points I would raise."

Firstly no general cleaning products are provided for example kitchen and bathroom cleaner and a toilet cleaner really is a must. A towel rail in the toilet would be handy too. Only 4 dishwasher tablets, 2 bin bags, approx 100ml of washing up liquid, 1 small dish cloth and sponge and no detergent for the washing machine were provided for a 14 day holiday. We went and bought the products but I do feel for the price paid and the luxury status of the property that these should be provided. Also the number of pieces of crockery could be increased as you are forever washing pots or using a half empty dishwasher. The property was generally clean but with a few cobwebs here and there mainly around the sky lights. Those little points aside we really enjoyed our holiday at 2 Southern Place, the sun terrace was impressive as we had great weather it got plenty of use in the evening. We also made great use of the spa and cinema rooms and the bed was really comfy. The outdoor furniture was of good quality and plenty of it. The thing I am most disappointed about is the price for 2022. This has increased by slightly more £900 for the same 2 week period. I would have expected an increase in price but a increase of above a third is ridiculous, so unfortunately we won’t be booking for next year. Kind Regards Dave

  • "The lodge was very luxurious and in fact it was the only reason we did not go home as the weather was horrendous."

There are only 2 small ideas that would make a difference and those are for a stool for the dressing table and a footstool/pouffe for the lounge area. We would thoroughly recommend staying here.

  • "The check in process was very simple as the keys were already at the property on arrival."

The lodge itself was beautiful, far better than the photos show it. You do have to be ‘close’ with whoever you go here with as the shower is open plan! The only thing that let it down was cleanliness, there were weeks old cobwebs in every room which considering how high end the lodge was, I really didn’t expect this. We could tell the cleaners clean, however they do not dust or deep clean.

  • "We stayed here the same week last year and loved every minute but this year a different story."

The bed was covered and I mean covered in black dog hairs, the settee also had dog hairs on in, even the cutlery drawer had black dog hairs in it! Granted house keeping did come and sort it out while we sat in the car for 30 minutes but it just spoilt the whole stay. There were claw mark scratches on the wooden floor in sauna/jacuzzi room and up wooden wall panels. The place smelt a strange fishy smell on and off all the way through our stay! Dogs have wrecked the place and I AM a dog owner! Originally the advert said "strictly no dogs" but that seems to have changed? Will not be returning next year!

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback regarding your most recent stay. We are disappointed to read that upon arrival your lodge was not up to the high standards of cleanliness we pride ourselves with, this is simply not acceptable. We are glad housekeeping were able to rectify this for you, though can appreciate fully your disappointment. We are pleased to confirm that since your stay, the lodge has had a complete interior re-paint and we have had a full cleaning review with the team with additional measure put into place for ensuring high standards are placed throughout all properties at all times. The lodge as with all Charteroak Lodges have had a deep clean and will continue to have moving forward.. We are sad to read that you have decided not to visit again, but hope that one day you may reconsider. Property Owner

When we used the hot tub lots of black limes ale came out of the jets I tried to clean it but it kept coming out of the jets,my son had this lodge last year and it was immaculate so I presume it’s down to how other occupants respect the property which is a awful shame as this place does have the wow factor ..due to coved I would have thought the cleaning would have been 100% but sadly not in this case my family stay a lot in the charter oaks luxury lodges but alas the luxury was lacking this time great facilities but lacked the shine that’s normally offered with these lodges having said this I will book again just not this particular lodge.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your stay here. It is with such feedback we are able to make changes where applicable and as such these have been put into place. We are so very sorry your experience was of disappointment. To update, we have had a full review of our cleaning procedures with the team, ensuring that several checks are made before guest arrival. The lodge has undergone a scheme of improvements and the hot tub jets fully treated and washed. We do hope that you have not lost your faith in the wonderful experience a stay at Charteroak can provide and hope to be able to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

Well positioned in Cornwall to access attractions and yet nicely tucked away in a quiet corner of this county. Inside was clean with a few cobwebs on the ceiling. Unfortunately the outside space had not been cleaned. The tables were filthy and none of the decking had been swept. We had glorious weather for the whole week we stayed and ended up using the outdoor areas (there are many to choose from which is a bonus!) however, we found the general dirtiness of the areas a but of a put off. I would recommend staying here and would come again as overall the lodge was comfortable and well furnished.

The setting is nice and quiet with several outdoor areas to relax in. Our only disappointment was there was no welcome pack. For a luxurious lodge this should have been provided. One pint of milk, 5 tea bags, and 4 sachets of instant coffee was tight and when paying over £200 per night. That said this is nitpicking and overall we would definitely stay here again.

The kitchen is well laid out and most things you need are supplied (washing up liquid, tea towels etc) The sauna and jacuzzi bath are very well kept and the smell as you walk in the room is to die for! I have never stayed at southern half before but I have previously stayed on the sister site stonerush lakes aswell and this site was just as lovely. My let down with the holiday was all just down to an Internet issue. I only stayed from Friday to Monday in a rainy weekend but thought with all the lodges facilities this would be fine. Unfortunately the internet on the site apparently went down on Friday night/Saturday morning ( no one bothered to come and tell me or explain or apologise I only found out through contacting yourselves.) and they weren’t fixing it till the Monday which was when I was leaving. I understand this is not something that could have been helped however this meant that the cinema room was pretty much wasted as there was no access to any Netflix or prime and also that I had to contact my phone company twice during my stay to purchase more data for my phone as I kept running out. I was told I would be contacted to discuss this after my day but I left on Monday and haven’t heard anything yet. Can’t fault the lodge itself or the site in terms of the quality of the accommodation and the setting but sadly the internet issue ruined my stay.

The only downside was the lodge we had was next to the building site which at times interrupted the tranquility.
