The property

4 Southern Place is a beautifully presented single-storey lodge in Dobwalls, Cornwall.

Offering a welcoming pet-friendly retreat for families and friends who wish to experience this striking part of the county, boasting a toasty woodburning stove, decking with rural surroundings and proximity to local amenities and Dartmoor National Park.

Arriving at 4 Southern Place, you can pull onto the driveway and step out ready to begin your stay.

Follow the steps down onto the front decking, which leads directly to the entrance, giving you a moment to pause and take in the surrounding greenery before heading inside.

Push open the door into the hall and continue into the open-plan living space, where a mounted TV and a stylish wooden panelled feature wall near the dining table create an inviting focal point.

The kitchen unfolds to one side with wooden countertops that bring warmth to the space.

You might set out drinks, unpack fresh ingredients or prepare a simple lunch while chatting across the room.

From here, drift into the sitting area where the woodburning stove becomes a welcome highlight.

Light the fire and watch the glow cast gentle patterns across the room as everyone settles in for the evening.

Glass doors allow the living space to spill out onto the rear decking, where you can step outside with an early coffee or enjoy a relaxed evening drink as the day softens.

The decking here offers a natural extension of the living area, ideal for unwinding between adventures.

When the time comes to rest, head to the king-size bedroom where a TV lets you wind down in your own space.

This room also has doors opening directly to the rear decking, making it easy to step out and greet the morning before anyone else stirs.

The en suite continues the thoughtful design with a walk-in shower and stylish green tiles that create an uplifting, contemporary feel.

The twin room provides a calm setting for friends or younger guests, and the family bathroom echoes the same green tiled finish, offering a refreshing space to prepare for the day.

With a shop and pub within easy walking distance, you have essentials and refreshments close to hand without needing the car.

If you are looking for a family-friendly adventure, The Eden Project is a brilliant choice, inviting you to wander beneath towering tropical biomes, follow creative outdoor trails shaped by the seasons and get hands-on with exhibits that bring the world’s ecosystems to life.

Those with an eye for heritage will enjoy Lanhydrock, where richly furnished Victorian rooms reveal stories of the estate’s past, wide parkland encourages gentle wandering beneath ancient trees and winding riverside paths offer moments of reflection as they trace the edge of the grounds.

For an outing filled with natural charm, The Lost Gardens of Heligan provide woodland routes that lead towards hidden sculptures, vibrant walled gardens bursting with seasonal planting and meandering pathways that guide you into unexpected corners with their own character.

Return to 4 Southern Place after each outing and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and thoughtful touches that make this lodge a delightful base for discovering Cornwall.
