  • "The late check in 5pm after a long journey should be 3pm to 4pm all you want is a cup of tea."

A small welcome pack would be nice, a pint of milk, a few cakes or a packet of biscuits. Then a 9am check out with children no time for breakfast so I suggest 10am check out. Otherwise it was clean and comfortable

Thank you for your comments and I hear your suggestions. We pride ourselves on the extra steps and time we take to accommodate our guests by ensuring it is welcoming on arrival. Although it is a self catering stay we provide the basics (tea, coffee, sugar, hot chocolate) for you to enjoy and further to this there is always cleaning supplies, toilet rolls to get you through the first few nights. The check in and check out times are guidelines in place to allow our housekeeper the time and flexibility to manage our property and allow for any unforeseen mishaps. We always try to accommodate any special requests. Where possible guests are emailed beforehand, which I believe you were, with the housekeepers contact number should there be any issues. We will continue to work hard at accommodating all guests and thank you for your feedback. The owners Property Owner

The property had good amenities and was clean and tidy. The local beaches are minutes away as are the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. The only small issue was that no tea towel, hand towel or kitchen towel were provided for the kitchen

Many thanks for taking the time to review Marshmallow. Pleased to hear your reactions to a property we take pride in presenting to guests. I apologise for the missing tea - towel on this occasion, we do usually supply one along with the basic cleaning items to start of your holiday. These small items do matter to making an ideal holiday. Good to know you had the opportunity to visit some of the very special local attractions situated with in close proximity of the property. Especially the beaches that are in walking distance. Thank you. The owner Property Owner

So nice being able to walk the short 10min down into Charlestown for all the restaurants and pubs, and the private beach and coastal path all within a ten minute walk. A lovely stay without any reservations.

It was an easy walk to Charlestown for beach, pubs / restaurants and ice cream. We loved being able to walk to Duporth Beach and it was always really quiet. There was another nearby beach that you could walk to with a cafe but this was busier. We had no problems with parking and the extra directions were helpful on the first day. A fabulous week, thank you

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Marshmallow. We are pleased to hear what a fabulous time you had and that the extra information we supplied was helpful to you. • "A lovely house, superbly cleaned."

The beds are super comfy. The property is a 10 minute walk into Charlestown but it is downhill, so obviously you have to walk back up! The private beach is just stunning, but again down a steep hill. A good base to check out Cornwall. My only problem is with the arrival and departure times of 5pm and 9am. These times were extended due to covid where extra time was needed for fogging and extra care, but haven't gone back to the normal times of 3pm and 10am. We left the night before, with a teenager, that extra hour in the morning is needed!

Thank you for your feedback it is very helpful. We will take into account your comments and discuss possibilities with our maintenance company which is responsible for the high standard of cleanliness of our property. Good to know you had a comfortable stay and made the most of the local area. The owner. Property Owner

  • "Firstly a really lovely house and we enjoyed our stay there ."

Good location to go out and explore . The issue is with parking , on arrival couldn't get into the small space as the neighbour's car was parked at an angle ( there is a wall towards the house ) so little space to park . The next day he had moved it but then after that again not parked correctly . It is a tight space all around most of the estate to get in and out of , cars everywhere . Inside the house lovely , just a few issues with the cleaning of crockery etc , this isn't the cleaner's fault I'm sure , plates , knives , underneath the cutting board etc not washed properly food still stuck on . the beds are fine with lovely clean bedding and really lovely towels provided . All in all a great stay but wouldn't return due to parking which is a shame because a really lovely property .

  • "Marshmallow House is a home from home and everything was as described on the website."

It’s on a very well presented estate but you feel like you’re in the countryside and access to a private beach is a bonus. For walkers the coast road is only five minutes away as is the beach. We enjoyed some great walks. It’s worth mentioning that Charlestown in only a 10 minutes stroll away and has several excellent restaurants, bars and cafes and a lovely harbour. Be warned that you must book well in advance, don’t put it off as you will be disappointed. The rear garden is private and gets the afternoon sun. The parking was good but very tight and only for one car. If you have more than one car I’d check what options are available. We had a great week and felt at home in the property.

Thank you for your lovely feedback for Marshmallow House. We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed our property as much as we do. Property Owner

  • "This is a nice house and there are lots of good things to say about it."

Upon arrival, it was spotlessly clean and spacious, with lots of storage. There were many helpful little notes left about how things in the house worked and the shower in the ensuite is one of the best showers I've ever had in a holiday let! The location of the house is only 5 minutes from Charlestown, which was really lovely and we ate out there several times and enjoyed the harbour. So there are lots of things to recommend Marshmallow house. However, there are a few things that were disappointing. The house is in a housing estate. It is a nice housing estate, with friendly neighbours, but some of the bedrooms overlooked the car parking area and the garden felt closed in by other houses. Some of the fixtures and fittings are getting worn - 2 of the towel rails are starting to fall out the wall and the beds all need new mattresses (and not merely mattress toppers). Access to the private beach was a real bonus, but it was a very hilly climb down to it and quite a way away from the house, meaning that it isn't really suitable for a family day (long walk back to the toilets). Generally I think the issues come down to pricing of Marshmallow house. At the price point we paid, I expected a house with top notch facilities and fixtures and fittings (including a dishwasher). This is a nice house in a nice location, but I felt that it was overpriced.

Thank you for your lovely comments regarding Marshmallow House and the surrounding area. At the end of 2019, a lot of the furniture including the mattresses and appliances were updated during this time. Due to the restrictions over the last 18 months, the items have not been used much, therefore, are still in very good condition and are checked on every changeover. As mentioned in the description, there is access to a private Cornish Cove, which due to exclusivity does not have nearby toilets or cafe facilities. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed you had to go back up the house to use the facilities. Once again, we appreciate your feedback and are happy to hear that you overall enjoyed your stay at Marshmallow House. Property Owner

  • "We had a great time at marshmallow house and would definitely stay there again."

The property is spacious, close to charlestown and the beach access is a big highlight. The only things I noticed were: - The oven smelt of bacon fat when we turned it on, it could do with a deep clean, there were some finger marks on fridge and crockery - There is only one plug socket in the smaller double bedroom room, which makes it tricky if you have two phones to charge in the evening and you want to keep the lamp on. It could do with a multiple USB adapter or guests could bring their own (or you could take it in turns but we are very impatient and tech addled!) - No coffee pot there that I could see, only a teapot. We’ve left one there in case future guests would want to use it - it was a spare from a family member - I know that we are in the midst of a pandemic so might not be doable right now but it might be nice to have one or two extra blankets or throws there for colder evenings That being said we really liked staying there and the location is fantastic - would definitely stay there again.

Within 5 minutes walking to Charlestown and Duporth Bay and access to a private beach. Could drive to Newquay withing 20 minutes & other places such as the Eden project etc. Attention to the small things such as toilet roll and tea, coffee etc was appreciated and very clean. It has off street parking, although very tight to turn into was great. All in all we were very happy to stay here and would definitely recommend and rebook.

  • "The house was very clean & well presented."

The kitchen was well equipped & the two double/king beds were very comfortable. Something that would have improved our stay a lot is if the bedrooms had blackout curtains/blinds & if the single beds had better mattresses. We didn’t find them very comfortable at all. The location was brilliant. Very convenient for shops & only a short walk to the beach & pretty Charlestown. We loved the private beach! So quiet & brilliant water for swimming, snorkelling or paddling. Really relaxing to be able to let the children explore & not loose them on a crowded beach or near a rough sea. Overall we really enjoyed our stay though & would recommend the location

  • "The cottage met expectations, access to keys and directions to the property were good (had a look on Google maps, just to check out if I had understood correctly), found it first time."

The passage through to the rear of the property is, as noted, obscured but we arrived just as another car had appeared through it. Maybe a simple plan could be provided in order to confirm the location, as anyone arriving in hours of darkness may have difficulty spotting it. We were lucky enough to see several tall ships in the harbour at Charlestown, having taken an early morning walk down to the harbour. It was good to be able to take photographs without the many visitors that arrive later in the day.

  • "The house was very clean and tidy, and a good size for our needs (3 adults, 1 child)."

It is also really well situated. However, once inside it felt a little like corners were being cut. For example, the kitchen could have been better stocked with better cooking equipment (eg a decent frying pan); we could have done with a couple of fans as it was very hot; and the mattresses were not very comfortable. The biggest issue though, meaning that I have to say ‘failed to meet’ instead of met expectations, was that we had no hot water for the first half of the holiday. The owners though clearly felt very bad about it and tried their best to resolve it especially given the bank holiday, and agreed to a partial refund.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the property didn't meet your expectations. We will certainly take your comments on board. However, we would like to point out that the property owner did her upmost to ensure the issues with the hot water were resolved as quickly as possible. This was a struggle due to being a bank holiday weekend but I do note that compensation has been provided for your inconvenience. Kind Regards, The Customer Relations Team Property Owner
