  • "Perfect! We have had a lovely week in this beautiful property."

The house is beautifully decorated, has everything you need. The location is fantastic, lots of places to eat on your doorstep. It’s also an ideal base for exploring further afield, either on foot or by car. It was lovely to have an outside area to relax in and the parking spot was a big bonus. Would definitely recommend xx

  • "We have spent a wonderful week at The Old Smoke House ."

Blessed with superb weather we were able to sit in the garden with latte’s from any one of the numerous coffee shops and enjoy the life in Charlestown . Highly recommend Charlestown as a place to stay . Some fabulous restaurants ( book in advance though because they are very popular ) and walks . The cottage was immaculately clean and the beds were very comfortable with a useful fan provided to take the edge off the warm nights . The view from the master bedroom was simply beautiful especially on the night of a super moon . We loved the decor. Having a place to park of our own was convenient and essential in this harbour . We took our cockapoo with us and she found her new favourite place on the patio . She couldn’t go on the beach in Charlestown at this time of year but with a car it was easy to take her to dog friendly beaches . We found every place we went ( including Charlestown ) was extremely dog friendly. Don’t be put off by the pub car park that backs on to Duck Street ( at the back of the row of cottages) . The cottage windows are very effectively double glazed and the pub is very well managed in terms of closing time. Sykes cottages were very easy to deal with, even when I inadvertently got the dates wrong and we were late packing up and leaving ! The owner was particularly kind that morning ! I was in such a rush I didn’t write in the visitor book so I hope this review will compensate for that . The best review is when the guest says they would go back ; we will certainly go back !

  • "Regarding comfort."

The bed was very comfortable and we both slept very well. The leather sofa looked very nice but was extremely uncomfortable. Both of us are 5.2” and 5.8” respectively and our feet couldn’t reach the floor. The one occasional chair was slightly better but not for a evening in. We would love to come back for a longer break in the winter but it would prevent us from booking again. We love the location and have stayed in a neighbouring Smokehouse property before but we were attracted by the modern decor of No 6

Thank you so much for the feedback, it is very much appreciated. We often stay at the house as a family and have chosen furniture that we find comfortable in the hope that our guests do too. I wouldn’t normally comment on height but we are 5 foot 8 and 5 foot 4,our daughter is 5 foot. I can only suggest to incoming guests that they refer to the pictures of the property so they know what sort of seating to expect. Thank you again for your feedback. Property Owner

This is our 2nd stay the previous stay was during the change over period between owners the new furniture is nicer and comfortable our only criticism is the inability to alter the heating as some days and nights it was too hot, overall we enjoyed our holiday and would definitely book again

Really pleased you enjoyed your stay. The heating controls have been changed and the welcome book updated with information on how to amend the temperature. Alternatively, the radiators can be switched off directly. I hope that’s helpful for future guests and thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in a good location."

Well equipped and comfortable. My only criticism is that it could do with a really good dust eg sideboards in lounge area and skirting board in main bedroom behind bed.

Thank you for your feedback and for bringing this to our attention. We will address this with our housekeeper. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and its location and hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Overall the accommodation and listing was very good, however the upstairs toilet couldn’t be used due to the seat being broke."

A tradesman turned up on the day of arrival but couldn’t fix it. We were told that a plumber would arrive on Monday. This never happened and there was no communication during the week on what was happening. I rang the Sykes office on the Saturday to informed them about a minor issue with a bank of lights not working in the main bedroom and also informed them ref the seat issue. I was told it would be fixed on Monday, which obviously didn’t happen. Paying the amount we did for this week, I’m expecting some compensation due to the toilet issue and the inconvenience it caused. I look forward to hearing from you! Kind Regards Stuart Luke

Thank you for your feedback, it is really helpful. For future guests reference can I please highlight my owner contact details, and the contact details for Cornish Cottage Care (who maintain the property), on the first page of the welcome book. By calling either number you can expect an immediate response and I can ensure any problems are resolved swiftly. I am aware that a plumber had been asked to attend during the changeover window (on the day of arrival) to tighten a loose toilet seat however, it wasn't until I received your feedback (after your stay) that I was made aware that the problem had not been resolved. On investigation I understand that the toilet seat was slightly loose but as the fixings would not tighten further a return visit was scheduled for the following change over window so as not to disturb your stay, and as the toilet was fully useable. A fault with the electrics could not be found. I'm sorry for any confusion that has been caused during your stay and thank you again for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "Our only negative comment was the comfort of the sofa and chair."

Fortunately as the weather was so good we spent most time outdoors making use of the garden furniture

Thank you for your feedback and I'm really glad to hear the weather was kind during your visit. The cottage is furnished with a leather sofa and a separate plush armchair, both of which can be seen in the lounge photo on the holiday listing. Can I kindly suggest prospective guests consider other reviews from guests who comment highly on their comfortable stay as this seems to be an isolated comment. Property Owner

  • "A very well appointed and equipped little cottage, immaculately clean on arrival."

It was perfect for our needs. A great location, in the heart of the increasingly bustling Charlestown. A short wall to the harbour, the best coffee and cinnamon swirls in Short and Strong and absolutely delicious food and excellent Service of the Longstore and Winebar. We’ll definitely book again.
