  • "A very tastefully decorated wee cottage with thoughtful and tasteful interior decoration."

A delightful double bed gives a feeling of sumptuous comfort and almost hugs you! Well equipped kitchen and private patio off it for the dry days. There's an unusual feature in the bathroom too! Great walks from the cottage and very close to Cawsand and Kingsand which can be reached via a number of paths and even the tarmaced Earl's drive if the other paths are muddy/wet. Its also v close to the popular Maker Canteen for breakfast or lunch. Very welcoming and approachable hosts. Little touches on arrival greet guests:- home made scones with homemade jam and luscious Cornish clotted cream, milk and a sample of home made sloe gin ( which, if you like it, is available in a bigger bottle from the hosts as a souvenir of a wonderful stay) I've been holidaying in the area ( mostly Cawsand) since 1988 and the Old Dairy is the best accommodation l've stayed in in all that time.

Thank you for this lovely review, we’re so pleased you all had a good time staying at The Old Dairy. You would all be very welcome to stay here again. Kind regards, Mark & Lin Property Owner

  • "Excellent accommodation in a very quiet and peaceful location."

Our hosts Mark and Lin were there to greet us and a welcoming cream tea was provided. We loved The Old Dairy and enjoyed being able to do many walk’s right from the door. The Cremyll ferry was very useful and ties up well with a good bus service in and out of Plymouth. Seeing the deer in the garden was a bonus. Thank you for everything. Hope to see you again soon.

Hosts were lovely and had thought of everything. The area is beautiful and ideal for walking the coastal path . The Canteen, Halfway house , The Bay and the Crosskeys are great to eat at and also the Edgecumbe arms and the Orangery. It was great to see dear on the lawn in the evenings. Would definitely visit again if we can . Also fetched home a bag full of Lyns homemade produce , including sloe gin

Thanks for your kind feedback, we’re so glad you had a great time staying at The Old Dairy. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Mark & Lin Property Owner

  • "A very quiet & peaceful location yet within an easy walk to Kingsand/Cawsand & SW Coastal Path."

Secure storeage for pedal cycles. Wifi great in lounge area but no signal in bedroom - this is a personal preference, easily rectified but others may prefer to be wifi-less! Torpoint Ferry nearby if bright lights of Plymouth required (also very enjoyable boat ferry from Cawsand). Many National Trust properties within easy reach & Eden Project within an easy 90 minute drive.

Thank you for your kind review and feedback. We’re glad you had a nice stay and hope to see you again soon. Best wishes, Mark and Lin Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful time at The Old Dairy in a wonderful, forgotten part of Cornwall."

The property was delightful and quirky and the owners very welcoming. We needed for nothing in the property and with great walks from the property it was a few days before we even used the car again after arriving. The bonus of seeing the local deer and hear them on an evening plodding up the drive simply added to its appeal.

  • "We had a fantastic stay here and would definitely look at coming back to stay."

Home made scones with jam and cream on arrival was a lovely touch. It is right next to the coastal path so easy to go and explore. The property was spotless and very well done. Providing tea and coffee was also a lovely touch. There are steep steps to enter the property so bare this in mind when booking. Ideal location for us as we were attending a family birthday but I was disappointed that we didn't get to spend more time in the accommodation. The only recommendation I could make would be a slightly larger sign locating the property as unless you are used to driving country roads it's very difficult to spot - but the directions given in the property info do combat this well.

Thank you for your kind words about your stay at The Old Dairy, Maker. We are pleased you had a lovely visit to the forgotten corner and hope to see you again. Property Owner

Accommodation was better than described, clean, comfortable and very stylish and quirky. Greeted with fresh flowers, milk, tea, coffee, cream tea a lovely touch after long drive and owners sloe gin is very nice! Would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a bolt hole for a week or more. Beaches within easy walking distance and parking is great to have. Will be returning for sure. Great value for money.

We'd recommend visiting Looe, Polporroe & Cawsand beach. The Bay at Cawsand does lovely food and has great views for drinks - we went there most nights and watched the world go by. The cottage was clean, tidy and equipped with saucepans, utensils etc. And, it was a comfy king size bed too! Very quiet location, no noise at all which was lovely. We'd certainly recommend. -Jess & Ash

  • "After a very long and tiring drive we arrived to a delightfully warm and sincere welcome closely followed by a selection of local treats."

The accommodation was spotlessly clean and the pictures and description on the website of the property and the surrounding area are very much what you get. There is an eclectic mix of old and new décor and furniture and yes it is a bit quirky but in a delightful way and it just works and very much added to the enjoyment of our weeklong stay. The WiFi was first class and not having live TV was a blessing as we both read our books which is much more relaxing. Have already recommended to friends and would have no hesitation on returning.

  • "Quiet location."

Everything worked. Equipped cottage. Communal garden areas and main house are untidy, unkempt and in disrepair (broken glass in front door and porch). Track down is overgrown and dark. Decking area is overgrown with ivy. Strange smell in cottage (was not damp as lots of spiders and cobwebs). Smell was stale cigarettes from carpets and duvets. Needs a thorough clean and carpets deep cleaned. Cottage is dark and has second hand light from bed 2 and lounge, overlooked from owners windows. Odd layout as go past owners kitchen to get to yours. TV has apps only, freeview/live not available. WiFi drops out. Public footpath goes past bed 1 window. Expensive for what it is. There is better out there.

We are surprised by this review. There were no criticisms during your stay and you sent us a complimentary text after leaving. Your review is at odds with the lovely comments left by other guests in our visitors book. Our home and gardens are Grade 2 listed, and being renovated and we deliberately avoid any disruptive/noisy repairs when guests are staying. Our private gardens are regularly mowed and looked after and the entrance is a private country lane with hedges/trees; we keep it well tended for the cars and the local wildlife. The only ivy grows on the high boundary wall – in our opinion quite an attractive feature against the old stonework. Other mature shrubs overhang the decking but do not obstruct it, adding some welcome shade to the morning sunshine. We're confused by your comments about cleanliness – everything in this property was completely re-decorated this year & no one has ever smoked inside it. The carpets, linens, towels etc are all new – maybe it's the smell of the new wool carpets? The property has an intense C19 clean on changeover day; everything is laundered, all carpets vacuumed and tiles washed throughout. We can't do much about the layout or the natural light – it dates back to the 1600's. The front door is through the courtyard and the Old Dairy's kitchen door leads onto its own private decking, which is not an exit. The public footpath runs along back of the Old Dairy but does not run directly in front of any of it's windows – only the deer pass it in the evening. The furniture is a mix of modern and antique, in keeping with the property's age (shown on website photos). The Smart TV is as advertised: Netflix, Now TV/Cinema and catch-up packages. We have superfast bb/WiFi and we’ve had no other complaints. Property Owner

The property

Resting in Maker on the Rame peninsula AONB, between Millbrook, Kingsand/Cawsand and the Mount Edgecumbe estate, is this wonderful attached cottage.

Once a 17th century dairy, set in idyllic countryside in the grounds of Grade 2 listed Friary Manor.

This quirky dwelling is a superb fit for a small group looking to escape to the Cornish coast. Off-road parking for two cars greets you on arrival at the end of a long country-style drive before heading through your private secure gate to your own private flagstone courtyard and then into the Boot Room entrance hallway for your coats and shoes.

Shopping bags, iron, ironing board are also stowed here plus a washing machine.

Walk into your charming and bright yet cosy living/dining room and settle down on the plump seating while watching your favourite show on the Smart TV or enjoy eating together at the dining table that seats four.

All cutlery, placemats supplied along with family games and books to while away a cosy evening in.

The modern bright kitchen makes cooking a breeze with all the appliances you’d expect and then through the double French doors onto your private decked courtyard to enjoy breakfast in the morning sun.

There is also a private seating area on the Manor lawn (for summer).

At bedtime, make your way up a few steps and into either a calm single room, where you can read a book before bed in the convenient armchair or further down the corridor is a very spacious luxury king-size bedroom - showcasing exposed beams and a fabulous bay window where you might get to see our local deer heard pass in the early mornings and evenings. If you're looking for exciting things to do there is a wide choice without the need to travel far with much accessible by foot or by car if preferred. It’s a short walk to Maker Heights, with its very own cocktail bar, cafés and award winning restaurant, The Canteen - where you can admire the spectacular 360o views of the Rame peninsula.

Continue on down to the nearby beautiful twin fishing villages of Kingsand and Cawsand offer beaches, pubs, cafes, delis, gift shops and eateries, and lots of winding lanes to explore.

Also water sports, surfing and swimming in one of the many beaches and coves.

Heading in the opposite direction from the Old Dairy, it’s a short walk along the footpath to Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park with its beautiful informal and formal gardens plus gift shops and cafes - maybe try a unique Segway experience! Millbrook is also nearby containing mini markets, pharmacy, a health food deli and a newsagent/gift/hardware shop.

Take a stroll around Mill Quay and Southdown Marina, bird watch at Millbrook Dam, before enjoying a pint at the traditional pub - the Devon & Cornwall. Travel a bit further and tour the grounds of Antony House, or enjoy sea view dining at many local restaurants.

Also the famous long Whitsand Bay is a short drive favoured by local surfers.

Seaton, Looe, Polperro are a short drive too.

The lively port city of Plymouth can be accessed by the car ferry from Torpoint or the closer (great fun) foot ferry from Cremyll (Mount Edgcumbe quay).

The city is filled with family-friendly attractions such as The Box, National Aquarium, traditional pubs, restaurants, the Plymouth Gin Distillery and the Mayflower steps on the historic Barbican – where there is also a foot ferry back to Cawsand beach.

There is also easy access from the property to the Tamar Valley AONB, the spectacular wilderness of Dartmoor and Tavistock or a day trip to the Eden Project, Fowey or Bodmin. For a fabulous trip to Cornwall enjoy staying in a fantastic home-from-home at The Old Dairy and be welcomed by a traditional cream tea and a spot of homemade sloe gin.
