The owners were always available if we needed any assistance but also respected our privacy and let us just get on with it. All rooms are very comfortable and the good quality heating system really helped considering this was out of season. The enclosed garden (there are a few gaps for small dogs to get through) was first class and gave us plenty of space to exercise the dogs. Location is also very good being near to Tintagel, Boscastle and Bude and we enjoyed going to the disused airfield at Jacobstow (dogs loved it).

  • "A lovely comfortable cottage, in a quiet but not too remote location down a short unmade track, with absolutely everything that's needed for a great holiday."

The garden was secure and a good size for my dogs, and was furnished with a couple of sun loungers and table and chairs - a great spot for soaking up the sun or eating. The kitchen was really well equipped, with plenty of crockery and cutlery, pots, pans etc. and the sitting room was comfy with a good TV and great working wifi. The bed was comfortable - although would have benefitted from some new pillows - they were a bit hard and flat - although I guess that's down to personal preference. The bathroom was equipped with a good powerful shower over the bath. The whole cottage was spotlessly clean when I arrived. Although there were no footpaths for dog walking in the near vicinity of the cottage, great walking can be found only a short drive away at Bude, Widemouth Bay, or Davidstow Moor. The only slight thing I would worry about is if the weather was rainy - which often happens in Cornwall - the stress of trying to clean muddy dogs before they get on the lovely cream carpet! The owners live next door, and it was good to know they were there if needed, but otherwise you're left to your own privacy. I would definitely recommend this as a lovely place to stay and I would book again if I was staying in the area.

The garden was huge which was great for our toddler & dog. The owners were friendly and helpful and were just next door which was useful if you needed anything. The utility area was handy as well as the washing machine (many places don’t have one so we really valued it!). The only thing I would say is that there isn’t anywhere to walk from the cottage, as the roads don’t have paths and aren’t really safe to walk on with a young family and dog (narrow roads with blind bends). This was a shame as it would have been nice to explore the area on foot. I wouldn’t say this as a negative comment as it can’t be altered, it sort of is what it is! But rather I felt I should point it out to make other families aware who book in the future. We spent quite a lot of time in Bude, which is lovely to walk around, so there are plenty of places to go nearby - you just have to drive to get there!

We were delighted and touched to be welcomed with a cream team for the family after a long journey to Cornwall. The cottage is spacious (plenty of room for a family of 4 and labrador), with lots of light, a lovely enclosed garden and a fully stocked kitchen. The garden area was a reasonable size and we had a fantastic view of the stars at night as there is no light pollution, a wonderful treat for town dwellers. The owners were very friendly and supportive. The cottage was very warm and comfortable. Amenities are a car ride away, but this is a great place to stay if you like a quiet place with only the sound of songbirds and sheep to disturb you. Off the beaten track at the end of a hamlet of cottages /houses. Had all the stuff you might want and more. Hosts were very friendly and helpful but also allowed you to enjoy your holiday in peace and quiet. The garden was great for kids and dogs(if you had an escape dog there are some very small gaps-it's a thick well established hedge which leads onto farm land and farmers track. But ours were more then happy to stay in the garden. Some Toys/dvd for outside and rainy days. North Cornwall is dog friendly pretty much everywhere, so cottage very well positioned for great beaches (Bude has several beaches) and places to visit with the whole family - Tintagel and Boscastle to name a few are about 20 mins to half an hour away. There is no phone reception for those that require it but this can be over come with WiFi calling if needs must or just enjoy the silence. Main bedroom is a bit of a squeeze but lovely big bed and the size of room was never a problem for us. Living room/kitchen is lovely and so is the twin room. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Yes the owners may live next door but they never bother you unless they see you out and about and may just stop for a chat. The home is lovely, clean and tidy and all needs are catered for when it comes to comfort. Apart from food obviously nothing is needed for the kitchen as everything from dishwasher tablets to Fairy washing powder are provided. The shower is amazing and the beds are really comfy. The garden was ideal for our dog and was secluded.. Yes this house is also on a working farm as the owners are the farmers, but you would never have known as there is no disruption to the peace and quiet you get here. It is ideally situated to visit Bude which is about 7 miles away and the surrounding area. About 4 miles away is a little place called Crackington Haven we used to take our dog there at the end of the day so that she could have a swim in the sea and the big stream leading down to the sea. This home is lovely if you are looking for a quiet get away but not a million miles away from the beach and beautiful countryside. The owner does provide you with a Cornish Cream Tea on arrival, but I was not sure if bread rolls were part of that tea instead of scones which is what we had !! But it really was a lovely thought after a long journey from our home. All in all would we stay here again ABSOLUTELY.

Although adjoining the owner's property it was incredibly quiet, and the perfect location for a relaxing break. The welcome gift of a cream tea and flowers was a lovely touch. The kitchen equipment in the cottage was impressive. The shower is awesome! We can thoroughly recommend this holiday cottage.

  • "This cottage is located at the end of a short but rough, unmade road and is attached to the main building, which had once been a farmhouse."

The area is really quiet and peaceful; no traffic noise, just the occasional tractor. The building has been skilfully renovated to provide a good two bed-roomed accommodation with a delightful, good-sized lounge and well-equipped breakfast-kitchen. The garden is mainly wild grass, kept short, and is good for dogs and there is plenty of parking space. There is a small patio with four chairs and table should you wish to dine or breakfast or snack outside. Heating if required is very good and efficient and there is free wi-fi, a generously sized television and a DVD player for entertainment during inclement weather. Shops are a good distance away as are restaurants and/or public houses. Bude is probably the best place to eat out without travelling a long distance. I would say the place is comfortable for two to have a really nice, cozy break, maybe a romantic break. More than two and it might get a bit crowded, but it will sleep four in the two bedrooms. Ideal for all-year-round holidays.

About the location

JACOBSTOW

Bude 7.5 miles.

The small village of Jacobstow in North Cornwall has a church and a Holy Well. The nearest shop and pub are situated close by at Wainhouse Corner, with the children and dog-friendly Old Wainhouse Inn offering good food and real ales. Within reach is Bude, a fabulous coastal town that once visited you will want to come back to time and time again. Bude has something for everyone, great beaches for relaxing, and building sandcastles on, rockpools for investigating at low tide and cafe's to watch it all from. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round, and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the North Cornwall coastal path offer you a superb opportunity to explore and appreciate the outstanding countryside. Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area and Heritage Centre at Bude Castle. It also has a good selection of local shops, supermarkets, cafe's, pubs, restaurants and excellent Information Centre, plus within walking distance are the remains of a huge iron age hill fort at Warbstow Bury, from where panoramic views can be seen. For days out, take the coast road north to see the lonely lighthouse above the sea at Hartland Point or walk or ride a donkey down the steep and cobbled village street (no cars allowed) of beautiful Clovelly to the harbour and the pub far below. Follow the coast in the other direction and there's the little cove of Crackington Haven, Boscastle, King Arthur's castle at Tintagel, Doc Martin's Port Wenn at Port Isaac and yet more great surfing beaches at Polzeath.
