  • "On arriving at Rock View cottage we were extremely impressed by the standard of the renovations and the quality of the whole thing."

We came for peace, tranquility, wildlife and walks and we had them all in abundance. And to top it all we had the comfiest bed we have ever slept in. Rock View cottage is everything you could wish for and has everything you need. Nick, the owner, was lovely and extremely helpful. The only thing that let us down was the typical English weather! The only word to describe our week is....perfect. Thank you Nick for making us so welcome. We will be back.

  • "We absolutely loved our stay at Rock View Cottage."

The location is really secluded and if you are looking for peace and quiet this is the place to go. Literally all you can hear is the birds. Lots of walks right on your door step, and a massive hot tub big enough for 6.... So with just two of us was very luxurious. The cottage itself is very well equipped with everything you could need, bed is huge and really comfortable. The only negative I'll say is the seating whilst modern and new... Were not the most comfortable.. they have low backs, so you cant lay out. But that is a minor thing and didn't impact our holiday as we often sat outside, or were in the hot tub. In terms of the location you are far enough removed to have a quiet woodland holiday, but a 20 minute drive will take you into Plymouth, or Cornwall, so close enough for the town's. We ate out a couple of times (horn of plenty is a must try) but mostly cooked at the cottage. The kitchen is fully fitted with every kind of pot/pan you could need. Overall this gets a 5* from us and we will be looking to book again next year.

  • "We had an extremely relaxing holiday."

It was the perfect mix of being tucked away enough to enjoy peace and quite, but close enough to everything we wanted to do. The cottage is absolutely charming with a very comfortable bed and luxurious bathroom. We decided to have our evening meal at the cottage each day and the kitchen had everything we needed. There are some walking trails at the end of the path to do. The hot tub was much appreciated after that. The cottage is well shaded, so even in the hot weather it was nice and cool. Oh, and Cafe Liason in Tavistok makes a great pitstop for breakfast ;) I would wholeheartedly recommend this property.

Combined with the peaceful woodland location, wood burner and hot tub it is a very relaxing cottage, so much so we even used the hot tub without the jets/bubbles to be able to sit and listen to the birds. All this combined with the extensive walks straight from the front door through some very picturesque woodlands means we definitely recommend staying here.

  • "Total relax and recharge."

This is the second time we have stayed in this idyllic little hideaway tucked away on the edge of the woods. From the moment you arrive you can feel the stresses of everyday life get left behind. The cottage is perfect if you wish to relax, recharge your batteries and immerse yourself in nature. The woods are right on your doorstep and will keep you amused for hours with their endless tracks. We were lucky enough to see a deer at dusk one evening which was magical. Although the weather was rainy on a few days during our stay it certainly didn’t dampen our spirits and a hot tub in the pouring rain is a definite must!! We also took a drive out to Dartmoor which is only about 15 minutes away. You are totally spoilt for choice on walking routes and clambering up the tors is an absolute must, the views are spectacular. Tavistock town is worth a visit, the market square is a hive of activity and crammed full with arts and crafts. We ate at Taylor’s which was lovely and very reasonable. All in all a fabulous week in a very special location. We look forward to returning again sometime.

The internal decor and facilities are fantastic, a full size bath and separate full size shower we're most welcome after a rainy days hiking. Outside the hot tub is just the cherry on the proverbial cake.

....Great communication from booking to check out. Home from home with a fully functioning and well-equipped kitchen. Amazing bathroom and great quality towels. The bed was so comfortable, we didn't want to get up in the mornings. Underfloor heating throughout so always warm and toasty and didn't need to light the wood burner. The hot tub was a great way to start and finish the day, even in the typical English weather which wasn't kind to us but we did not let it affect our much-needed rest and recuperation.

  • "The area is lovely and quiet to relax in, the hot tub was very enjoyable as was the amazing bath."

You are not far from Tavistock which is great if you want to explore the town. The cottage has most things that you would want and we appreciated the milk, water and Prosecco on arrival. We found the place fine using our Sat Nav, although we have a city car which the track isn’t made being so rural, so you may need to drive slow. I would add somethings to consider, we found the bed too soft but understand this likely to be personal preference. We used our own pillows as the ones provided were quite soft too. I would add another set of cutlery as the one set can be used up with breakfast and lunch and it would help making washing dishes more economical. Be mindful of movement in the shower as we knocked our elbows a few times on the metal shelving. I would also add to be mindful that visiting guests the lunchtime before the day of checkout sends the wrong message when asking ‘when you can empty the hot tub for the next guests’. It is not appropriate and we left promptly after. I would suggest leaving your ‘tidying up’ for you nine hour cleaning window when guests have vacated like all other establishments. As you can see above there were minor issues, however, overall our stay was very enjoyable and relaxing a would highly recommend a stay.

We are always disappointed if guests are not fully happy with their experience & in respect of the mattress & pillows in terms of how firm or soft they are, it is clearly a matter of personal preference and over the years, many guests have commented on how well they have slept. We have also received comments on the equipment level of the kitchen and given that there is a dishwasher + tablets provided, along with two sets of knives and forks, this appears to us a better option than overfilling the cutlery draw. I do think it is important to respond to the point raised about cleaning the hot tub. This simply cannot be left until the guests leave on the morning of departure as we spend all day cleaning the inside of the cottage and it takes an hour and a half to empty and clean the hot tub, three hours to fill and a further 10 - 12 hours to heat so that it can be enjoyed by guests upon their arrival! However, I never expect guests to forgo their enjoyment of the hot tub; I explain why I am asking them the question and always stress they can use it up to whatever time it suits them. All I ask it to be notified when they have finished so that I can then start the process and have many times done this up to midnight on the Friday evening and then got up in the middle of the night to turn off the water once the tub has filled. It may be that I did not explain as fully as I should and never expect guests to alter their plans for my convenience and only regret if this was not made completely clear. Property Owner

Totally peaceful and idyllic surroundings. The owners were very helpful and everything was perfect, with lots of nice little touches to make us feel welcome. The hot tub is a real treat. It's not a criticism as most cottages don't yet have them, but an electric car charger would be useful (payable of course). However we knew there wasn't one so we planned accordingly - it would just be more convenient to charge overnight. But absolutely loved the place, would highly recommend and would stay here again.

Nick was amazing throughout our stay, very helpful and friendly and provided a lovely Prosecco treat and specifically catered to our non-dairy needs with the milk provided. We loved our stay and would definitely stay again. Helpful tips for other people staying: 1. Take some indoor slippers as the cottage has a beautiful oak floor which is polished/waxed/cleaned before your stay. In bare feet or socks we found it to be very slippery especially then using the tiled bathroom floor so would recommend indoor footwear that is safe for the floors. 2. If you are not confident using tiny Devon lanes it may not be for you as the approach is single track and near working farmland. We are very used to such roads but had some interesting moments with tractors but handled easily but I know some people don't like using such roads. Also if your car has low suspension the final part of the track may be a little problematic for you.

The property

About 2 miles from the little hamlet of Gulworthy, surrounded by woodland is Rock View Cottage.

This detached stone-built single-storey cottage, with your own 4-person hot tub, once served nearby Wheal Josiah, the now abandoned, but one time richest copper mine in Europe.

The cottage has been thoughtfully restored, lime-rendered walls and oak floors complement the stylish decor, creating a luxurious and rustic feel.

Ceiling-high, glazed bi-fold doors flood the sitting room with light.

There's a little dining area, a wood burning stove and a smart kitchen.

The double bedroom has a huge bed, demanding long lie-ins and easy starts, and the lavish bathroom has a fabulous roll-top bath.

Outside is a private woodland garden with a table, chairs and barbecue - an idyllic spot to unwind.

Beyond the garden are acres of woodland and the Tamar Trails activity centre for walking/cycling around 20 minutes walk away.

Nearby are the historic market town of Tavistock, The Nat.

Trust's Cotehele House, Buckland Abbey and Morwellham Quay location of the BBC's 'Edwardian Farm'.

Further afield, Plymouth has shops, theatres, the Nat.

Marine Aquarium and historic Barbican.

Rock View Cottage is a peaceful and picturesque retreat where you can choose to do as little or as much as you wish.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.
