  • "Clean, comfortable and well equipped."

This cottage is in a lovely quiet rural setting well placed to explore the Lizard and further afield for the whole of West Cornwall. Our only concern was that the hot water was scalding hot and young children would definitely need to be supervised.

  • "A gorgeous cottage set in the best location in Southern Cornwall."

It's position is perfect for access to all of the A roads that lead to all of the historic and coastline resorts. The cottage is set in the most beautiful of places with amazing gardens full of shrubs, plants, flowers and trees. You will lose count of the species of birds including woodpeckers! Wild rabbits and horses in the fields beyond. The cottage has everything you could possibly want or need with very comfortable layout, a huge kitchen, very comfortable beds and a huge ingle nook fireplace. Best of all is the stunning view that greets you each morning through the windows. Hosts Gill and Carl are ever so friendly and will jump through hoops to ensure your stay is perfect. We have stayed there twice now a fortnight at a time, all thanks to Sykes Cottages and have already bought and paid for two weeks next year!

  • "Hosts are lovely people who were welcoming and very helpful."

Location is idyllic - extremely quiet and ideal for getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The property was absolutely fine overall. Somewhat cold in the evenings for a while, but the electric heaters allowed us to eventually get warm when combined with the eventual central heating kicking in. Some wood/coal would have been beneficial each night although I recognise we weren't visiting in the winter. There were a few things that required attention - the hot tap in the ensuite (main bedroom) not fixed in place, a leaky radiator (perhaps affecting temperature in the main bedroom) and mattress not especially firm, but these did not stop us enjoying the property overall, which was very clean and in a great location with very nice owners. Thank you very much Carl and Gill for your hospitality.

Thank you for your feedback, I supply a basket of logs in the winter months, the tap in the main bedroom was installed on the quiff by the plumber, visitors tend to try and straighten it up which makes it loose. We are glad you had a nice stay at Woodpecker Cottage. Property Owner

The owner Gill welcomed us on our arrival and was always on hand to help us if we needed anything. A truly lovely lady. She even gave us help with lighting the wood burner, so cosy in the evening to sit by. This is a great area for walk’s in the countryside around the Helford river and creeks and only a short drive to the stunning coastal paths and beaches of the Lizard peninsula. Gweek Seal Sanctuary is on the doorstep and we’ll worth a visit. We hope to go back again as soon as we can.

We have stayed in several before, all via Sykes and some of them were in Cornwall, but none/nothing compares to Woodpecker Cottage. It is perfect and it's setting is nothing short of paradise! The number of different wildlife and multiple species of birdlife that dwell there is incredible! From wild rabbits to horses, chaffinches to woodpeckers and rooks, plus the most gorgeous gardens and their plants, shrubs, flowers and trees. The owners Gill and Carl are so friendly and approachable. Their sense of humour and fun is right up our street. From the moment we arrived we struck up a fabulous friendship. For any would be guests reading our feedback? If you are wondering if this is the place for you? We still have 2 nights left out of 14, and we have just rebooted and paid in full for same time next year! We don't like this cottage...we absolutely love it!

But the shower facilities are a bit cramped with tiny shower trays & poor water pressure. The kitchen cabinets are really budget & bland & don’t reflect the heritage of the house. But great range cooker, great fire place, lovely sash windows in such a peaceful setting. Wonderfully calm location. Would go back.

We go away every year and this cottage is probably one of the best that I have visited in terms of facilities and location. Gill and Carl were very welcoming and friendly and were not too overbearing on our stay even though they lived next door. The lounge was cosy with very comfortable settee's. We didnt need the log burner but i could imagine on a cold day its lovely. The bed was a little soft for us but we slept well never the less. We were very unlucky with the weather and spent more time in the cottage than we intended this was made easier by the excelent facilities. We only have one negative about woodpecker and that was the TV reception it was very poor and we were unable to watch many channels. The location of woodpecker is ideal to visit cornwall and the lizards many beaches and attractions we enjoyed a day at st micheals mount all be it wet and had a lovely few hours walking the beach and costal path at Praa sands. Little things like, salt and pepper, washing up liquid...….. dishwasher tablets, you name it and it was provided (things I always forget!). The local supermarkets deliver and the postcode is well known to the delivery persons. Set in silent countryside, 3 miles from the nearest pub! Beautiful walks (weather permitting) and lots of places of interest nearby. A car is recommended but not obligatory. The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in and the décor is perfectly in tune. Both bedrooms being en-suite and the views are gorgeous. On arrival I was greeted with milk in the fridge, tea bags on the table and a plate of fresh scones (or is it scones?) with clotted cream and jam. In front of a log burning fire! I wish Gill and her son Carl all the very best and aim to see them again early next season...…. and cant wait to see Rinny again, their 4 year old Alsatian with the most beautifully relaxed temperament.

It is well-equipped. The owner and her son are both genuinely friendly and helpful. The narrow lane to it could be alarming if you don't like reversing! The wood-burner is excellent! The radiators are rather temperamental - hence can be a bit 'fresh' in cold weather. The cottage has great character. Good restaurants in the vicinity - e.g. Wheal Dream (on road for Redruth), Crafty Slice Café (café / craft shop in Mullion); Post office / shop/ café in Ruan Minor - et al! Fabulous place for Cornish Pasties near A!S tyres in Helston. Remarkably beautiful 9and friendly) me3dieval church in Mullion. ,
