Rooms were clean and felt very homely, lovely touch when we arrived with cream and scones. Lovely, thankyou.

  • "We had a lovely week at Kernyk."

The cottage is welcoming, spacious and quirky and the location is absolutely beautiful. Walk a short distance to the coast path and turn left for Praa Sands with an idyllic beach, turn right for Porthleven with it’s iconic clock tower and pasty shops!

Hi Hazel thank you for your feedback and so glad you had a lovely time. Kind regards Judy Property Owner

Rain or shine, this cottage provided a very enjoyable and relaxing experience.

Nice spacious cottage, 2 lounges a bonus. Great for dogs. Helpful owner. Beds are soft. Sunny garden. Generally very clean. Many thanks.

Thank you for your feedback, there is a large frying pan in Kernyk, but if you needed a different one our housekeeper is always available. Contact numbers are in the information book. We have purchased 2 more. I hope this didn't spoil your holiday. Regards Judy Property Owner

  • "This is a great spot to stay with great facilities, massive kitchen and upstairs living room, downstairs living room with fire is always a winner in my book, lots of shops pubs all close by."

Beaches within walking distance and not far to drive to other beaches and towns. I like to visit Cornwall with my family as many times as I can and this is probably one of the best places I’ve stayed

  • "Absolutely fabulous location and cottage had everything we needed."

The separate bathroom a d toilet upstairs we’re very small, and it would have been nice to make more of the living room downstairs rather than having a separate living room upstairs, but overall it was a fabulous week away and we will definitely come back to this location soon!

  • "Lovely location, good kitchen size and one of the best gardens we have had in 10 years of booking cottages."

Although owner/cleaner reacted and apologised for initial issues, offered to come back out, it is important to flag the following, cupboard for rubbish not emptied of non recycling, only bins in kitchen and bathroom, allows to book for 7, but not enough seating in either lounge, no bin bags, even with not matching, insufficient crockery for 7, towels were dirty and smelt, we had to wash them, dirty load in dishwasher, mess under bed, cobwebs, dirty surfaces, dirty marks on fridge and mould on tiles. Needs some tlc and a deep clean.

Thank you for your review and again I apologise that the Cottage was not as clean as you or myself would have expected. As you said our housekeeper did offer to go back in and resolve these issues. If needed there are lightweight additional chairs in the kitchen which can be used anywhere in the Cottage. In light of your feedback we have increased the dinner and small plates from 7 to 14. Recycling is collected forthrightly in Cornwall. We ask people to put this out on the collection day, so it may be that you had to put out the previous people’s recycling but also others will put out yours. There is a recycling shed outside the back door. Property Owner

  • "We arrived to find the cottage overlooking a lovely green with easy parking."

The garden with sea views was spacious, private and quiet with sunny seating on two levels. The kitchen was our favourite place, being bright with morning sun, its large table held our books, maps, sketch pads, iPads along with food, music and wine! It was especially well equipped. The central heating was quick and effective with lashing of hot water. We could see the sea from our comfy bed in the morning, and everywhere was clean and welcoming. Our dogs danced along footpaths bright with gorse and tiny Spring flowers; the local beaches were beautiful and the coves dramatic. In short, Kernyk Cottage is simply a very special place.

  • "When we arrived the cottage had not been cleaned."

This eventually got sorted and Sykes agreed to compensate some refreshments at the local pub. However the cleaning was rushed and was not as thorough as I would have expected- and no it’s not a COVID thing, dust on surfaces in bathroom is just not right and then questions rest of cleaning. If not for this would have exceeded expectations. That said the cottage itself was great. The kitchen was a great family space where we could all sit and have fun while cooking etc. the ground floor lounge would benefit from being made brighter but rest of accommodation is great. Garden is good when you have a dog we all enjoyed just sitting out enjoying the sun. Would definitely use again.

Porthleven 3.4 miles.

Enjoying a coastal spot with sea views is this lovely granite-stone, semi-detached cottage in the village of Rinsey on the south coast of Cornwall.

Near to the most southerly port Porthleven, this barn conversion offers a delightful base for a family or group of seven, with an array of bedrooms to suit a host of different parties.

Be welcomed into the first sitting room on arrival, where a multi fuel stove eagerly awaits you to get it fired up and then settle down on the sofas arranged around the hearth, a perfect spot to warm your toes after a winter coastal walk.

The kitchen/diner echoes a farmhouse style, with a wooden dining table presenting a place for all to gather for hearty breakfasts, quick lunches, or evening feasts with all hands on deck to help.

Use the range of excellent appliances to rustle up some tasty treats, while the French doors stand opened out to the garden on summer days as the children play in the garden.

Use the charming walled garden as a sanctuary at the end of the day with a glass of wine in hand as you admire the tranquillity of the area and reflect on another wonderful day.

The utility room holding the washing machine also lies on the ground floor along with the spacious family bathroom, offering a bath and a shower over.

Head upstairs to wind down with some evening TV in the second sitting room, sink into one of the two sofas beneath the wood-beamed apex ceiling with velux windows flooding in the natural light, and dual aspect windows providing views of both the countryside and the sea.

When it's time for some rest, find three bedrooms all providing pleasant sleeping spots, with a king-size room, a family room with a double and a single, and a twin, offering a layout great for many group types.

Completing the interior is a shower room which has a separate cloakroom with a basin and WC next door, so there's less waiting in line for the bathroom!

Begin exploring the area by spending time down on Rinsey Beach, travel down the footpath and man-made cut in the cliff to come to this secluded haven on the coast, with great fishing found off the rocks of the cove, while ‘Ray Pool’ provides a large tidal pool which is great for enjoying a pleasant swim.

Head to the historic village of Porthleven for your amenities and shops, with this settlement being the most southerly working port, you can purchase fresh catches for a delicious evening meal, or visit one of the village’s restaurants serving indulgent seafood.

Hop onto the South West Coastal Path which is practically on your doorstep, taking you to the charming village of Praa Sands with a gorgeous stretch of sandy beach, or continue on to Marazion where you can stop in one of the restaurants to enjoy a meal backed by the sun going down on St Michael’s Mount after you’ve explored this tidal island which is home to a Norman church and a medieval castle.

Kernyk offers the perfect place to base yourself for a fantastic Cornish retreat.

About the location

PORTHLEVEN

Helston 3 miles; Penzance 10 miles; Hayle 11 miles; St. Ives 17 miles; Falmouth 17.5 miles.

Porthleven is one of south west Cornwall’s hidden, coastal gems, located near Helston, famous for it's annual Flora Dance Festival. Situated between Lizard Point and Land’s End, Porthleven retains the feel of a traditional Cornish fishing village, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful Cornish coastline. The iconic clock tower sits on the harbour entrance and the pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants cluster around the historic picturesque inner harbour, where there is plenty of boating and marine activity. With a warren of streets lined with classic Cornish, granite cottages, an extensive beach manned with lifeguards, the chance for alfresco dining in one of a number of well reviewed restaurants, and crabbing off the harbour, there are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy, all year round. Porthleven is building a reputation for eating out with a popular food festival established in the spring. Out of season, Porthleven has one of the best surf breaks in the country where you can sit down and get lost for hours watching the energetic surfers riding the waves. There are some fabulous hidden coves along this stretch of coastline, including Praa Sands, Poldhu Cove, and Rinsey, a magical setting for the more energetic. You may have even seen pictures of Porthleven on television, being one of the best spots in the UK for storm watching, with the crashing winter waves often being used as the backdrop to weather forecasts. Walkers will enjoy the South West Coast Path, adventuring west past Rinsey Head with spectacular views, or south across Loe Bar to Penrose Estate with it's National Trust cafe, and on to Gunwalloe Church Cove. Take a trip to the Isles of Scilly by boat or plane and marvel at the display of sub-tropical gardens at the stunning Tresco Abbey. The Eden Project near St. Austell offers an interesting day out. Porthleven is the ideal base for discovering the delights of west Cornwall and the Lizard Peninsula.
