The garden was great, completely safe for our dog and we were able to use the adjoining field to walk around. There were great views from the cottage and it was very peaceful. It was only a 5 minute walk to Bodmin Moor and Jubilee Rock, well worth a visit. The village of Blisland was just down the road with a handy shop and a very nice pub. Lovely woodland walk nearby. • "A lovely modern barn conversion, everything done to a very high standard."

It was really nice to see the large solar panel that powers the house. Amazing views out the large windows. The setting is lovely and very convenient for visiting different parts of Cornwall. Unfortunately the property is not great for anyone with mobility problems. Shower room is not on the same level as bedrooms and is a fixed rainforest type without a separate hose. My partner can’t get in and out of a bath and really struggled with the shower. The smooth wooden stairs between levels are very slippy, an accident waiting to happen. I couldn’t understand the decision to put signs everywhere with house rules rather than put them all into a folder. At times this made the property feel more like a hotel than a holiday cottage, it just didn’t feel homely. I’d love to stay in the area again but would not book this property again for the above reasons.

Such a convenient place, we felt like we were in the middle of the countryside but were less than 10 mins from the A30, so convenient to visit the rest of Cornwall. Cottage had everything we needed and good WiFi. Comfy beds and it is really spacious. The views are amazing. Our dog loved the fantastic garden and being large, the garden managed to get the sun somewhere in it most of the day. We were worried by one reviewer who mentioned single track lane to the cottage, but this was literally the last little bit of the road to the cottage which was less than half a mile, so was no hassle at all.

  • "Brilliant property, well-equipped a real home from home, quirky extras and absolutely 100% spotlessly clean, which I never say as I'm a clean freak and end up cleaning as I enter most places I stay, I didn't need worry here at all its wonderful and it impressed us hugely."

The underfloor heating was a brilliant treat to come back to after walking the Moor as was the fantastic freestanding bath, what a treat! So many things have been well thought out and designed so well here, huge compliments to the owners. Simply stunning views in a quiet spot away from all the hustle yet central enough to be able to get to anywhere in Cornwall for a good day out. The only additions I would add to make this perfectly 5* would be a coffee pod machine and a Wifi speaker to be able to play music. Our only very small criticism of our stay is that the double bedroom bedding didn't smell freshly washed, which we put down to perhaps a period of the house being empty, That being said its a super minor point and we would stay again in a heartbeat at any time of year, sending the differentseasons here would be lovely. We actually live in Cornwall only 20 miles or so away from the area but after spending all of 2020 at home we wanted somewhere to escape to locally for a few days and this place has firmly become our happy place, we felt like we could have been hundreds of miles from home and we will recommend it to people that visit us as a place to stay and explore. We will hopefully soon return to sit in the window chair and take in the view. Thank you for the stay we love the Sleepy Fox.

  • "Sleepy Fox was perfect."

We dreamed of putting on the log burner but didn't need to, the under floor heating warmed it up and was so cosy. Our dog loved it too. Had everything you could need and plenty of space to relax. The road leading to the property is 1 Lane and sometimes you come across horse boxes and other cars so be confident reversing back to a cross path. Our dog is small so could have fitted under the gates in the garden so we couldn't let him off the lead but this wasn't a big issue as we don't tend to let him out on his own anyway. But some netting or something across the gates would have helped but not a big issue. All in all an incredible week. Will recommend to friends and family for the perfect getaway. Close to places but far enough away to feel relaxed and away from it all.

The cottage is a converted barn to a very high standard while keeping in with its surroundings. Everything we needed was there even a welcome pack and flowers. We only stayed for 5 nights but would like to come back in the summer when hopefully the weather is a lot better. If your looking for somewhere to stay for a quiet time away then this is the place.

The property

Tucked away in a peaceful hamlet on the outskirts of the charming village of Blisland, Sleepy Fox is a beautiful rural retreat within just a moments walk from Bodmin Moor in North Cornwall.

This delightful converted stone barn oozes style with modern bathrooms and underfloor heating throughout whilst still retaining its original charm including slate floors and curved walls.

Spread over two floors, this property boasts a wonderful light decor and large windows which flood the interiors with light, well-suited to friends and families looking to explore the best of the wonderful region of Cornwall.

From the moment you enter, you are welcomed by a combination of calm, neutral tones which radiates throughout the cottage.

The open-plan living room come dining area is a great space to bring all the family together whether relaxing in front of the TV watching a favourite film or challenge yourselves to a board game on those wet and windy days.

During the winter months, you can curl up by the wood burner and enjoy uninterrupted countryside views which looks out onto farmland and across the valley.

From the living area, an original stone archway guides you into the contemporary kitchen and utility area.

Well-equipped and complete with a range of appliances, enjoy many home-cooked meals using fresh, local ingredients which can be purchased from the local Post Office and Shop just 0.8 miles away.

Once the evening draws to a close, rise to the first floor where you will find a king and twin bedroom linked by a hallway.

Fitted with plush beds and quality bed linens for your comfort and enjoy stunning, far-reaching views across the surrounding fields from the master king bedroom.

Run yourself a hot bath in the freestanding bath tub in the family bedroom on the first floor or there is a stylish shower room on the ground floor in the utility area, perfect to jump into the shower straight after a long walk on Bodmin Moor.

Dine alfresco in the multi-level private garden where you have a choice of a sheltered patio area at the top of the garden or a picnic on the lawn.

From here, you can relax and soak up the countryside sounds.

The small village of Blisland has access to a brilliant pub which serves award-winning local ales and serves traditional pub meals if you don't fancy cooking one evening, or pick up some ingredients for an evening meal at the Blisland Post Office.

Pull on your wellies and take a stroll up to the wonderful open countryside of Bodmin Moor, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasting two high peaks for those keen hikers among you.

As you enter Bodmin Moor from here, Jubilee Rock is within a few strides from the gate, a grade II listed large granite Rock decorated originally by Lieutenant John Rogers in 1810 to mark the Jubilee of George III and again by Queen Victoria.

Standing on top of Jubilee Rock on a clear day provides an elevated view of the countryside.

For a spot of history, visit Pencarrow House and Gardens dating back to the 18th century and set in landscaped gardens, perfect for exploring.

Further afield, take a 30 minute drive to the North Cornwall coast of Rock, Daymer Bay, Padstow and Polzeath with miles of coastline to explore towards Port Isaac through to Tintagel and many restaurants serving delicious coastal delicacies.

About the location

BLISLAND

Bodmin 5.7 miles; Wadebridge 8.4 miles; Polzeath 13.2 miles; Tintagel 13.8 miles; Padstow 16 miles; Fowey 17.2 miles.

Situated under the western edge of granite-bound Bodmin Moor, the village of Blisland retains its age old character and is the only village in Cornwall to have a village green with trees. Around the green, cluster old houses and cottages, as well as the famous, award-winning Blisland Inn. The village is located less than three miles from the A30, and so provides an ideal central location for touring Cornwall. Nearby, Poley’s Bridge marks the beginning of the Camel Trail, a 17-mile long route, which follows a long disused old steam engine railway line to Padstow. The route is completely traffic-free and perfect for walkers and cyclists. You can even explore the trail on horseback and a purpose-built hide has been constructed between Wadebridge and Padstow, so even birdwatchers are catered for! Pull on your walking boots and explore Bodmin Moor, or venture to the coast with your buckets and spades and enjoy a day on one of the many beautiful beaches that stretch along Cornwall’s northern coastline. A fabulous part of the country for all!

IMPORTANT NOTICE: please do not interfere with the ground source heat pump settings located in the utility cupboard. The controls have been configured and preset. These are checked prior to every guests arrival and departure - if the controls have been altered, you may incur additional charges.
