    “Nice place to stay.”

Local information was ok but a local map would have helped with understanding directions to different places and amenities.

This property is part of the Cornish & Devonshire Cottage Holidays collection.
Over 500 carefully selected and perfectly located Cornwall and Devon properties, helping you create your perfect holiday.

The cottage

"Samphire", the perfect seaside cottage. Think of bobbing fishing boats, ice cream coloured cottages and memories of childhood seaside holidays and you have imagined this vintage-styled cottage and the unspoilt villages of Kingsand and Cawsand.

"Samphire" is nestled right in the middle of the two villages, with far reaching views across the bay, ideal for those who love to be close to the sea. Decorated with the seaside in mind, there are lots of quirky collectables.

The open plan living accommodation on the ground floor, is warmed by the glow of a wood burning stove. To the rear is a galley style kitchen.

On the first floor is a spacious twin bedroom enjoying fine sea views, as well as a loo and recently renovated shower. Up some steps will bring you to a quiet single bedroom.

So this property can offer flexible sleeping arrangements for four guests or a family with 3 children.

On the second floor is the wonderfully light and bright master bedroom with glorious dual aspect sea views - with a bath tub tucked in a corner!

There is also a separate loo on this level.

To maximise space, only one bedroom has a wardrobe, but ample wall hooks and drawer space are provided for your clothes in the other rooms.

At the back of the property there is a small fisherman's yard.

This is used for storage and recycling, through which the neighbour, a local school teacher, in true Cornish style, can occasionally access their property.

There is also a log pile for the wood burner and a shed painted in beach hut colours.

The village itself is in an Area of Outstanding National Beauty.

Indeed the Rame peninsula in which the cottage is sited is called the Forgotten corner because of its quiet lanes and sense of an untroubled yesteryear. With three easily walkable beaches to hand, with Kayaks for hire, the villages have it all in buckets and spades!

Cornish pasties, clotted cream teas, rock pooling, crabbing, and 4 traditional pubs in which to while away an evening.

There’s even a rural post office, The South West coastal path runs through the village taking you to secret coves and stunning scenery, including the 800 acre Mount Edgcumbe Country Park.

The incredibly beautiful Whitsand Bay is just a 10 minute drive, with its dramatic scenery and long stretches of sandy beaches.

There is a ferry service to Plymouth: "The Red Pig", in the summer from Cawsand Beach to Plymouth Hoe, and throughout the year, from Cremyll. Here you can find the National Marine Aquarium, Royal William Yard and Mitch Tonks' RockFish Plymouth.

About the location

Plymouth 24 miles.

The twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand, with narrow streets winding between pastel-coloured cottages, lie on the Rame Peninsula just 5 miles from Plymouth, but because the high ground of Mount Edgcumbe lies between, you are not aware of being near a large city. Instead, you can relax in the peace and quiet of village life, and look out over Plymouth Sound which offers calm waters ideal for watersports, fishing and bathing. Take a walk south along the coastal path to Penlee Point for the glorious views of Rame Head, towering above the sea, or, a walk north along the coast will take you to Mount Edgcumbe Park with fabulous views of Plymouth Sound. From Cawsand, take a ferry trip to Plymouth and visit the Aquarium, the historic Barbican or enjoy a spot of retail therapy. Just a mile west of Kingsand lies Whitsand Bay, with 4 miles of sandy beach and dramatic cliffs. You really are spoilt for choice in this ‘secret hideaway’.
