  • "Excellent little cottage, it had everything we needed (although a non-slip bath mat would be good addition) and our little Welsh Terrier enjoyed exploring the large garden."

There was only one drawback for us; the road into St Keverne can be dangerous to walk. There is a route through the fields, but that proved to be overgrown and a little arduous for two 69 year olds. The two pubs in St K serve lovely food and good beer, if that’s your choice and one has a take-away service if you’re feeling lazy. It’s an easy, pleasant drive to the tourist traps, although try to avoid Helston at rush hour. Do try Coverack, about 10 mins away. All in all, a lovely week spent with friendly people in beautiful countryside.

  • "Swallows is a lovely cottage with a very good kitchen, comfy bed and a large sitting room."

Given the wet weather we had in September we should have lit the fire to provide some heat to dry thinks out, but there is so much to see in this area that we were always home too late to make it worthwhile. In short, it is a lovely cottage in a lovely area.

  • "Location great, cottage surroundings very tranquil."

Kitchen good with adeqaute equipment/utensils. Bedroom ok, bed comfortable and reasonable storage for two people. On the downside we had no hot water in the evening, which is unaceptable. I appreaciate that it can be difficult to get broadband in some areas, but it must be achievable to even boost a signal. The TV was small, with wires at the back a hazzard, and there was no remote control making its use very cumbersome.

  • "Wonderfully relaxing position you hear nothing but birdsong."

Very well situated for exploring the Lizard Peninsula by vehicle and on foot. The accomodation was much larger than we expected with the run of all the owners grounds. The bed linen and towels were very clean and white always a relief. Living in a stone country house ourselves the miner foibles of staying in this ancient farm building didn't come as a surprise. Holidaying at Swallows is a wonderful chance to experience the Cornish countryside, embrace it.

  • "We had a lovely stay here!"

We came without a car and did a lot of walking along the coast, the house was easily accessible to coastal paths and it was quick getting a taxi from a nearby station. The hosts were very friendly and available if we needed them, but the cottage also felt separate and private. They also kindly gave us a lift to our bus station when we left! Thank you both!

  • "We enjoyed our stay in the Swallows."

It was a lovely cosy cottage and a great base to explore the surrounding area and beyond. The cottage is very secluded and we enjoyed the tranquillity and peace we needed, however St Keverne is in walking distance from the cottage. The only thing I would say to improve the comfort, we found the bed was quite uncomfortable as the mattress was too hard for us and also the shower needs replacing as the water came out as a trickle. This did not spoil our time away and we had a great week in beautiful Cornwall.

  • "Swallow Cottage and St Keverne are lovely; the cottage has no wifi, but this is not much of a problem to my generation."

One added bonus is that the village can be reached by the only B road on the peninsula.

  • "The cottage is situated in the heart of the countryside with immediate access to fields and footpaths including the coastal path which we very much enjoyed exploring."

The local town which includes a well stocked shop and two pubs, is about 20 mins walk via footpaths and small back roads recommended by the owner, rather than taking the main road. Swallows cottage is a haven of peace and tranquility with a beautiful garden and orchard area. The very spacious cottage is well equipped and has everything you need and wonderfully there is no wi-if and minimal phone signal so it is possible to really take a break from work and get away from it all. The owners are very friendly, welcoming and helpful and make themselves available if you need them but otherwise you feel as if you have the place to yourself. We enjoyed the week very much and will definitely return, thank you! :)

Quiet area & plenty of walks. Walking down main road to village not recommended. Owner recommended another way longer but safer.

  • "The cottage was surprisingly larger than I imagined, usually one bed cottages are tiny, this wasn't!"

!! Nice to have the owner on site. Swallows had everything we needed. Brilliant location- tucked away and very quiet, a level walk to the village along footpaths and short walks along very quiet back lanes, just over a mile according to my gps walking app.

However this was not a problem throughout our stay. A wonderful spacious cottage, very secluded, just what we needed.

About the location

ST KEVERNE

Helston 12 miles.

On the eastern side of The Lizard Peninsula, the pretty village of St Keverne, lying just 1.25 miles inland, is the focal point for this area, with its village pubs and shops surrounding the village square, and an impressive church spire, at one time used to guide the Cornish fishermen home. From St Keverne, you can easily explore the natural and spectacular beauty of the Lizard Peninsula by car, bicycle or on foot. You will find walled fishing harbours, tiny secret coves, sandy bays and dramatic clifftop walks along the South West Coastal path. Just north is the Helford River, a yachtsman's dream and home to Frenchman's Creek, and picturesque Helford village. A short walk takes you to Roskilly’s Farm, where you can tuck in to ice cream to die for. Further afield, visit Falmouth, with one of the world's largest natural harbours, Pendennis Castle built by Henry VIII, and of course you cannot miss out on a trip to The National Maritime Museum.
