  • "Thank you Alison & James for sharing Camellia Cottage."

Despite the weather, we had a fantastic stay. It was lovely to arrive to fresh scones, clotted cream, jam and prosecco. The heating was also already on, making it nice and cosy. We were made to feel really welcome and we felt comfortable and relaxed throughout our stay. The yard was secure for our dog, Harry, to play in and the cottage was very clean throughout. We loved looking through the photo album about how you had both put do much time into renovating the property over the last 6 years or so and it truly shows in how well it is presented. We'll definitely look at booking to come back in the future. It's now our favourite Cornish holiday home.

We found it extremely clean and comfortable. Lovely welcome gift of cream tea and bubbly and tasty treats for our dog. We chose it mainly because the garden was safe for the dog but we were delighted to find a public footpath next door for convenient comfort walks in the morning before going out for the day. The pub next door was so convenient for evening meals and the food was delicious. We had a lovely week visiting lots of beaches and walking some of the coastal path. Would definitely recommend it to friends and plan to revisit at some time in the future.

  • "Camellia Cottage was amazing."

Off road parking is a big plus (plenty big enough for our full size people carrier - as others have said, reversing in is best). Beautiful enclosed cottage garden was great for the dog (and drying washing). There was even a fire pit and bbq. Inside was spotless, beautifully and tastefully decorated and comprehensively equipped to a high standard. We wanted for nothing. Location was perfect for exploring Cornwall. Very close to the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Mevagissey, but even Lands End was only 90 minutes away. One thing that we loved was the silence at night. Lanlivery is a beautiful haven of tranquility when Cornwall is basically full. The Crown Inn next door serves good food (best to book), two farm shops within a mile sell local ingredients and Asda and Tesco in St Austell are 15 minutes away. Being Cornwall, Google Maps may well send you down some challenging narrow roads. The best way in is down the turning signposted for the Crown Inn. As the Colwith Farm Shop is on this junction, we navigated to there rather than the property, which worked well. And finally, James and Alison were great hosts incredibly nice and helpful. And they are locals, which means a lot these days. We wish them all the very best with their venture, and thank them for a great couple of weeks. A definite recommendation....

  • "Camellia Cottage is a beautiful well equipped cottage with a lovely secure garden for the dog."

We appreciated the cream tea & prosecco which welcomed us on arrival and Barney enjoyed his treats. Alison & James were very friendly and helpful. The TV reception is not good but James put us on the right track explaining to use the apps and then we had no problems. I was worried about parking after reading a previous review. We have a large car and had no problems at all. There is plenty of room for parking but it is easier to reverse in rather than try to reverse out. The bed was so comfortable and we both slept well. The cottage is in an ideal situation to explore Cornwall. The Crown Inn next door is dog friendly and we enjoyed our evening meals there. The Kings Arms in Luxulyan PL30 5EF just 2 miles away is also dog friendly and we would highly recommend the steak & ale pie. We would recommend this beautiful cottage and wish Alison & James all the very best with this venture.

Central to most tourist spots. (ask James the best route out of the hamlet as it has plenty of passing places) .. James and Alison the owners so helpful and friendly. Lovely old inn next door (the Crown Inn signed posted off the A390), no noise nuisance from it at all, dog friendly and locals chatty and friendly. Comfortable beds in both rooms, lovely private garden. Owners always helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, we found parking very difficult and somewhat dangerous as entrance was narrow and just off of a bad bend ie if you reversed in, it was dangerous and if you reversed out the same applies. It is unfortunate that this means that we will not be returning to this property and it somewhat took the shine off of our stay.

  • "We have just spent an idyllic week in Camellia cottage where every need was catered for."

Our main requirements was for an enclosed garden for our dog (tick) and a walk in shower for our daughter with mobility issues. (There is a step onto the shower tray which she could cope with). The cottage is in a beautiful and tranquil location with good access to the main A roads, once you learn to ignore your sat nav and know which country lanes to avoid. There's a pub next door with friendly staff and good food. We were never disturbed by any noise though. And for anyone wondering what else you need to take, I felt the description on Sykes website vastly undersold the facilities. Kitchen - oven, fridge and freezer, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, tassimo, coffee french press, cupboards full of all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans you could need. But also provided are all the basics to get you started, coffee, tea bags, salt and pepper, milk, washing up liquid, hand soap, pot and hand towels. It was all the additional touches like the treats for the dog, prosecco and scones with jam and cream, apples in the fruit bowl which were particularly thoughtful. There was a huge supply of DVDs, not to mention Netflix and Amazon Prime. There was a vast supply of games for both indoors and out. A picnic table and BBQ in the well tended garden, and a washing line. The heating was only needed briefly a couple of times and it quickly and efficiently warmed the house within minutes so I can imagine how cosy it would be in cooler months. There were plenty of beautifully fluffy towels, pillows and bedding and again basics like soap and toilet rolls. There was even an assortment of dog bowls, a towel, poo bags and a dog bed. But also hair dryer, iron, vacuum plus more besides. I appreciate it's impossible for the advert to state all the above and perhaps there are some owners that don't focus on the details to the same extent, but I felt this would be useful to know. So if you're planning a trip I would definitely recommend this property which has been well thought through, and is tended with lots of love, care and attention to detail.

I had been prepared to do a little cleaning to be COVID safe but didn’t need to do any as it was that well done. Alison and James even looked after our hound for an hour so we could unpack the car with minimal unhelpful doggy assistance. She loved playing with their dog and when my husband went to collect her he was invited to have a beer in the garden.
