The accommodation was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with sufficient equipment for the stay. The hot tub was very welcoming as the autumn brings it's cooler days. Very happy to recommend this chalet. One thing to note is that the TV in the bedroom has no aerial but is suitable for online content and mirror casting from a tablet.

I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed your second stay with us at Stonerush Lakes as much as the first Bernard and that you found 4 Water's Edge comfortable and well stocked. Thank you for leaving us your thoughts and also for letting us know about the television aerial in the bedroom, I will pass this to our maintenance team to resolve. • "On arrival we noticed that the carpet between the ensuite shower room and the master bedroom was very wet?"

My husband decided to have a shower that evening to discover that the whole of the shower room was flooded, and also now understand why the carpet in the bedroom was wet.. it was soaked. I used the lodged towels to clean up. We went straight to reception on the very next day to report. The very nice Sally was helpful and asked us to leave the key in the key safe which we obliged on the understanding we would be informed when someone would be entering the lodge. Sally called that evening, the door was bent and asked us NOT TO USE the shower until fixed. I asked when, Sally informed us that she didn’t know that the manager was back on Monday from holiday and would inform us and to talk about compensation. I AM STILL WAITING FOR THAT CALL. So, to be respectful of the lodge we stopped using the shower which we paid for extra … and ensuite shower room !!! it took ME three days to dry out the carpet and there was mould starting to form on the carpet in the bedroom on the wall joining the shower room to the bedroom. We also know that one day someone came into the lodge without informing us as the key safe was not only open, but the key number was visible. This was very upsetting and frightening that someone did this and anyone could have come in. From then I took the key with us. I have photos of all the above. I await your response, and this is very upsetting and will stop us recommending either group until resolved.

Thank you for leaving us your feedback Kim, we are once again sorry that you experienced the issue with the shower in the en-suite during your stay. I am aware that you have since spoken to our General Manager, Laney, who has passed on her sincere apologies. I can confirm that the extensive repairs to the shower have now been completed, we are just so sorry that we were not able to complete these works during your stay. I truly hope you will return to stay with us again in the future, as I would love to welcome you both back. Sally, Guest Services, Charteroak Property Owner

  • "The property is in a nice place with a view over the lake, but the building is a bit tired and would benefit from a face-lift."

Door handles falling off, hot tub was a cold one for first 3 days, tv not working, bed pillows stained, bed's uncomfortable, headboard fell off the single bed which I had to fix, we asked if the tv could be fixed but no one came, it's a beautiful place but I think it's short on staff, if you are coming here bring a tool kit with you.

Thank you for your feedback Stephen, it helps us so much to receive your thoughts. We took over the ownership at Stonerush Lakes a the end of October and have now completely refurbished 4 Water's Edge. The interior has been repainted; new furniture, soft furnishings and inventory has been added and a brand new decking area and hot tub installed. The Old Mill which houses our reception, restaurant and bar has also recently completed a refurbishment programme and is absolutely gorgeous and well worth a visit! I hope that you will return to sample these changes in the very near future. Sally, Guest Services, Charteroak Property Owner

The food was exceptional, the service was also great. However, we had gone out for the day and the heating failed. Initially showing that the pressure had been lost. We asked reception who advised that the maintanance team had already left for the day. We were given a 24hr call out number, which said they would try to help. Then they too could not get anyone to visit. It was a very cold evening and we had no heating or hot showers. Maintanance appeared as we were leaving only to say that there was indeed a fault and they would get it fixed during the day. Other than that we would highly recommend the site, the staff and the food!

  • "Having previously stayed at 6 Stonerush Valley and been wowed by the cleanliness, facilities and overall ‘new’ appearance of what was obviously an established lodge we were expecting much of the same from 4 Water’s Edge."

How disappointed were we. Joyce and Alan’s reviews sum up pretty much what we found and this is really sad considering that these comments were made as long ago as 12 months and as recently as 2 months ago. The sink is still not working, the cracks remain as does the mould and leaking rusting towel rail. The master bedroom bed has put me of memory foam mattresses for life, and the damaged blinds in the same room did nothing to add to the overall appearance. Add to this the lounge light that only half worked, simply for the want of a new bulb, the rug that needs to be thrown out, or really intensively cleaned, the sofa cushions that have seen far better days, a coffee table that would not have looked out of place in a student digs and walls that need a good lick of paint. The lodge feels tired and unloved and in much need of a very big dose of TLC to bring it back to a standard that I would expect from a site that promotes itself on offering ‘luxurious holiday lodges’. Back to number 6 next time methinks.

The lodge was modern. well equipped and well maintained. The veranda over the lake and the hot tub were really really special. We used this as a base for a walking holiday and so to come back to somewhere each evening to relax was a treat. I would recommend this lodge to anybody for their holiday. We ate in the restaurant on our last night and this was of good standard and reasonably priced. The only point to mention is that (unsurprisingly for Cornwall) is down a very narrow and windy lane. East to find, great location and a lovely holiday.

Despite having a very detailed email from Sykes advising all cushions, throws, games etc would have been removed by owner, these were still in place, in view of current situation didn't feel comfortable about this, so put them in spare room during our visit. Previous guests had not checked plates etc when removing from dishwasher so we found plates with curry and rice dried on, and dirty saucepan. The one plus is the Stonerush cleaning and maintenance team who appear to be run with military precision and each lodge has it's own bedding, tea towels and cleaning cloths delivered in sealed bags to outside of lodge on changeover day, 10 out of 10 to them, thank you. The lodge owner 1 out of 10, and that's being generous. We have stayed at other lodges on this site so will be returning to them.

We loved the site and was peaceful, well maintained site and quiet. It was within easy reach of places to visit in the car. We sadly did not get chance to use the onsite restaurant as it was booked during our stay. We would definitely return and stay again at this property. It was well stocked although a few more cups and plates would be good to save having to put dishwasher on so much. The tin opener was missing but this was soon replaced by onsite staff. On the whole the cabin was clean and tidy although we did find a couple of items from a previous visitor which is a bit of shame in the current climate. Having the hot tub was lovely and this was clean and well maintained during our visit and we made good use of this. Was lovely to sit watching the ducks and fish from the hot tub. The en-suite shower could do with fixing as this leaked everywhere. We will definitely be back and have already recommended this place to some friends and family.

  • "The lodge is located in a very pretty secluded location in the middle of nowhere."

It is situated on the edge of a lake surrounded by trees for privacy. The interior is modern with good quality furnishings and kitchen appliances, although the master bedroom mattress is in desperate need of replacement. Outside there is a lovely decking area (although not totally secure for dogs) where you can feed the fish, ducks and birds. The hot tub is private but again needs attention as many of the jets are broken but it was clean and hot. There are walking opportunities and our dogs loved their walks. There are no local eateries and the nearest shop is some distance away so we ate in the on-site restaurant on five occasions. We sampled most of the ‘specials’ on offer which didn’t change during the week we were there. The starters and mains were generally of excellent quality, beautifully presented and reasonably priced; however many dishes were served with chips, another option would be welcomed. The steak is the best we have tasted. There is a limited takeaway option for those that would like to eat in their lodge. Unfortunately the restaurant was let down by the dessert menu. Although stunning in appearance I believe they were frozen bought in offerings, lacking flavour and expensive for what they were. They remained in the display cabinet for many days so a little off-putting. This is a lovely retreat if you want total peace and tranquillity and like travelling.

The hot tub along with the waterfront location was out of this world and so quiet and relaxing! The accommodation was really good, clean to a standard however there could be further cleanliness to go the extra mile. By no means dirty, but cobwebs in ceiling, rug in the living room needed cleaning and under the sofas needed a good clean. Also there were no oven gloves, which came with its own problems. Also the en-suite shower leaked out around the door, which in turned had stained the wood around the bathroom. The onsite restaurant was out of this world. We turned up the week the menu had changed, but the food was outstanding, anyone visiting should definitely give this place a try, odd that it shut on a Sunday though! 8/10

About the location

LANREATH

Pelynt 2 miles; Looe 5 miles; Polperro 6 miles.

Lanreath is a village in southeast Cornwall, five miles west of Looe. Lanreath is rural in character with a local shop and Post Office as well as a parish church. There are a number of ghost stories associated with Lanreath. The best-known features a ghost in black driving a coach pulled by a headless horse. Nearby Pelynt is home to a parish church, a number of local shops and pubs, especially the Jubilee Inn, which was an original farmhouse dating back to the 16th Century. Looe is Cornwall’s second largest fishing port and hence there is always a lively maritime bustle around the quay area of East Looe, which is connected to the quieter West Looe by a seven arched 19th century bridge over the River Looe. The sandy Looe beach adjoins the pier and is very popular with families because of its safe shallow swimming and vast expanse of sand. Polperro is a little further away and is a historic fishing village nestling at the head of a long valley leading down to the sea. With plenty of areas to visit, Lanreath is a quiet, pleasant place offering easy access to the coast, the moors, National Trust properties and Cornwall's famous gardens.
