  • "The property and gardens are superb for a family group and could not be faulted, however it would have been 5 star except for the fact the driveway/lane entrance is no good for ordinary saloon cars."

My car grounded every time I passed in or out, I just hope no permanent damage has been done. Also there is no info pack in the property, I received it by email a day after I arrived after a phone calls to Cornish Cottages. We needed it on arrival!

  • "Kismet is a beautifully quiet house with an amazing cinema room which kept all the kids quiet after long cold days exploring the beaches!"

So close to Padstow and a great base for visiting the rest of Cornwall. The beds are so comfortable - we all slept really well - and the kitchen diner is a lovely sociable base. Considering the house has been in constant use all summer it was very clean with only a few wear and tear issues. Would highly recommend!

  • "Kismet was love at first sight, it was the loveliest experience staying there, a real home from home."

It has a warm homely feel, high spec, lovely interiors and touches, beautiful location and gardens. We had 6 friends staying for my partners 60th and it really made our holiday as everyone felt relaxed and at home. It was a short distance to Padstow and Newquay with it great beaches, Tintagel and Boscastle. It has all the equipment we needed to entertain and we loved the cinema room where we all fit comfortably. Thank you so much for a memorable holiday, we look forward to our next visit.

Thank you for your feedback which we have passed to the property owner to investigate the reason for so many lights to not be working. We have asked that the rubbish collection information is made clearer in the welcome folder to assist future guests and the housekeepers will check the showers. Property Owner

  • "Garden lovely children loved playing their games in it."

It's a good 5k walk to padstow but think does specify that in details. House generally lovely a few minor things - no bin liners or enough rubbish storage space in general and no real directions about what to do with the rubbish. Dishwater wheels missing. House looked clean but with all these rented properties needs some T&C with the fixtures/banisters and painted wall in small ensuite bathroom looked filthy when light was on. It said a new bbq was delivered but it wasn't and was replaced 2 days later but there was no comms to let us know it was on the way which would have helped. If you have a 4x4 you'll be fine with the entrance lane and over gravelled drive. Having read this back it may sound overly harsh feedback so overall a pleasant house to be whilst exploring the area :)

We stayed for a week and the first three nights were parties of group bookings. I know this isnt the property owners issue however if your gambling on sleepless nights. Spoke to Cornish Cottages Holidays and they must be the most useless, uncompassionate company we have ever booked through, the representative was giggling when trying to discuss the issue. My advise would be to try a bigger company to book your holiday through

  • "Firstly the house is lovely."

Well appointed and perfectly sized for the 7 adults we had on our trip. But the listing said the house was in Padstow, and this house is an hour’s walk from Padstow. And it’s not even in Little Petherick which is a walk down a busy road away. A couple of improvements the house needs, broadband is not good enough and the cinema room smells of mildew if not continually aired. However, this is a lovely house and if you were honest and say it’s a short drive or taxi from Padstow then I would have been happy. Although I might not have booked it as I wanted to be able to walk to Padstow within 15-20 minutes.

Was ok value but experience could have been made excellent by making a few changes such as; WiFi needs improving as a basic modern feature considering the amount we paid it was poor - better expected Although we wouldn’t consider property dirty we believe it could have been cleaner ie dirty hand prints from previous occupants and wax strips left in drawers etc also under current pandemic situation there was no evidence that we could see that a deal clean actually took place - just seamed as bare minimum / normal change over One last matter although small, we made an effort to deal with the rubbish and recycling but instructions in the manual were 2 years out of date and no guidance or facility on how to separate glass / cardboard / plastics etc

Thank you for your comments, we’re really pleased to hear that you had a good holiday and enjoyed the property. Your feedback is really helpful and we’d like to let you know that following your stay an upgrade has been made to the Wi-Fi which should improve matters considerably. Cleanliness here is usually is usually praised so we think your experience was a one off, however your comments will be fed back to the cleaners so that they can pay close attention to these points. Finally, the instructions for refuse and recycling will be updated. We hope to see you again soon! Property Owner

  • "The holiday at Kismet was just amazing and would definitely book again!"

The setting of the house was beautiful - not only did it have a garden at the rear but out the front, a beautiful well stocked garden with hidden seating and a winding path leading you through it - it was a sight to behold. There was an added seating area immediately outside the front of house should you want to sit quietly of a morning in the sun. The rear garden was enclosed and big enough to play croquet on the lawn. Also at the rear was a covered patio area - from here it was lovely watching nature coming and going in the field to the left of the property. The main sitting room/kitchen area was just brilliant to enable everyone to be together, chatting and eating at the large dinner table, or sat leisurely at the sofas. The bedrooms were bright and roomy, the decor nicely personalising each room was an added touch. The bathrooms and the showers were sufficient for all our families needs. The washing machine and separate tumble dryer were easy to use. The following items did not detract too much from our enjoyment of our holiday but feel the Owners of the property may like to address some small 'niggles' for the future enjoyment of potential visitors; - Internet. We had read that the internet was a constant issue at Kismet. The annoyance was we relied heavily on the Broadband working to access films in the Cinema room to play and the internet was undoubtedly unreliable to be fair. (Understandably all DVD's/Board Games/Books no longer at the property due to Covid). During our stay we received an email from Sykes to say a new Router was being delivered which arrived....the day before we left! The one day which we were able to use this new router did in fact improve the internet. - Rubbish collection - there are two bins outside the property - one very large and one small - but they are not clearly marked as to what goes in which bin. - Lack of a clothes airer to use on warm days - no clothes airer anywhere in or around the property. - The access road to the house - this was mentioned by a previous reviewer as being in need of attention. Having now experienced it first hand, it truly does need some form of attention/filling in of the pot holes.

  • "The house was lovely but the road leading up to it was shoddy but not sure which house it belongs too."

So owners may not be able to do anything. The bed in the master room needs to be bigger. The bathrooms were all lovely. The separate bathroom every time you had a shower small amount of water leaked from under garage door we kept an eye but it only leaked after a shower and then intermittently. The lounge and kitchen were a great area to entertain, play games and had everything we needed except a potato masher but we improvised. We felt although it had suitable pans in the kitchen they were not big enough for cooking a roast for 8 persons. The cinema room was a good addition and we made good use of it. It would have been good to have watched the Six nations rugby as we planned but unfortunately it was cancelled because of the Covid 19 outbreak. It would be good to have a nest of tables to use in the lounge for drinks. In the property summary it stated gas BBQ and fire pit but it was only a coal BBQ which was partly broken underneath however we still managed to have a BBQ. There was no fire pit or iPod docking station as your details stated but we took a Bluetooth system anyway. Outside several of the wooden window pains the wood had come away and they were lying on the floor. Overall we all had a great break and will certainly recommend or I use the house again in the future.

  • "Kismet is absolutely gorgeous."

Setting and location perfect. The house was warm and extremely well equipped. Plenty of hot water no matter how many of us were showering at the same time! Sometimes the water was too hot! One negative (if I wanted to be pedantic), there was no free cupboard to put groceries! Also only 3 loo rolls for 8 people and 4 loos was a little miserly. Thank goodness panic buying hadn’t begun! Just 3 dishwasher tablets for a weeks stay? Overall good stay.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback and we are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We provide all guests with a welcome pack of household and cleaning essentials which should be enough for the first couple of days. However, as Kismet is a self catering property, we do not provide any more than this. We also provide some cornish goodies to welcome our guests which we hope you enjoyed on your arrival at the house. We do hope that you choose to stay with us again. Property Owner

A beautiful house and gardens and we loved the cinema room. The beds were comfy and the owner's had put plenty of little touches in to make it a home from home stay. Only minor ideas to help make it perfect ....could do with a garden broom as we had lots of eating outside but couldn't find a broom to sweep up the cobwebs and debris plus a little difficult getting out of the drive, possibly a mirror would help to see any cars coming. These are only small things, all in all a lovely house and enjoyed our family holiday and hope to go back.

  • "The accommodation was first class and we loved the peace and tranquility of Kismet's location."

We all felt much happier staying there than in the heart of Padstow. The WiFi was a big disappointment and worse than useless we rebooted it several times , it was extremely slow and dropped out after 10 minutes. It is a difficult property to find and it would help enormously if there was a proper large house name plate outside the property on the wall facing the road you enter on. The shower in the ensuite at the front of the house has a drainage problem and our occupier was careful to regulate the shower flowto avoid it overflowing. A pantry or cupboard to store food would be useful. On the whole it is a first class property in first class condition

We'd just like to let you know as an update (May 2019) that plans are afoot for the Wi-Fi connection to be upgraded in the coming weeks, meaning the internet connection will be significantly improved. • "On entering the main ensuite, on arrival, the automatic plug in the sink stuck in the closed position."

Meaning the sink would not drain away. So unable to use this. The shower in this room floods the bathroom as drains too slowly so unable to use. The main bathroom only 1 out of 5 lights worked and then they all went out. Unable to use. So now down to one bathroom which was unacceptable as we booked a big property to have a bathroom each. On Sunday the TV decided to lose its sound it was all or nothing so almost impossible to follow any dialogue. The plumbing needs looking at urgently in this property. I called Sykes on the number in the folder which needs updating and was unsure which option to select as I was on holiday and had a problem, eventually I was put though to the correct dept. Being told to do option 3 then 3 again. The shower had already been reported so I went through the above problems. On Tuesday evening a new TV was delivered and set up. On Wednesday Morning we met the maintenance man who said he could fix the plug but not to close it again! He had a plunger for the shower and was going to fit a new switch to the bathroom. He knew exactly what the problem was before even looking at it. On returning the lights were working fine. The shower drained away a bit quicker but still was over spilling onto the floor. I think I should be recompensed for the loss of use of the bathrooms and the inconvenience of having to ring Sykes to sort out problems you already knew about..

  • "The house was beautiful and the facilities and location."

The bed linen and towels were excellent The only issue was the cleanliness! After paying £3000 for one weeks stay we expected the house to be very clean. Sadly there was dust and cobwebs everywhere even on the master bedroom bedside lamps and one bulb had gone in one of the lamps The inside of the kitchen diner window frame hadn’t been wiped in an age it was full of dead insects dirt and cobwebs when we opened it Also the master bedroom shower drain was full of hair and grease and had to wipe it out to get the water to drain away it needs to be thoroughly cleaned Initial impressions are good and it’s a wonderful house with great facilities but it deserves to be cleaned to a higher standard . The only other point would be that it’s difficult to find and could do with a name plate and the pot holes on the unmade road could do with filling in as it’s difficult for small cars. We did have a lovely week and did enjoy the house and it’s facil in particular the fantastic cinema We had a lovely holiday

The property

A beautifully styled and furnished family home, Kismet nestles peacefully on the edge of Little Petherick, a quiet hamlet just outside of Padstow.

Surrounded by rolling green fields yet just a short drive from the stunning beaches of the north Cornish coast, a holiday here offers the very best of coast and country.

Step inside to a cool bright hallway filled with natural light.

From here, the elegant country-chic kitchen diner provides a wonderfully sociable space in which to gather everyone together, with a cosy wood burning stove and comfy cream sofas overlooking the landscaped gardens to the front of the house.

Adjacent to the kitchen diner is an impressive cinema room with enormous screen, projector and surround sound - the most wonderful place to snuggle up with some popcorn!

Should you need to work during your stay, there is also a study with a lovely antique table.

Upstairs, the four bedrooms are tastefully presented in calming hues, local artwork adorning the walls.

Kismet's gardens are delightful; landscaped gardens taper away from the front of the house towards the countryside beyond, and to the rear of the house, a large terrace with outdoor dining table and sun loungers offers the perfect spot for socialising in the Cornish sunshine.

The much-loved harbour town of Padstow is easily accessed on foot, with a gentle stroll along the Saint’s Way trail.

Padstow is home to a range of quirky shops and galleries, harbourside inns and some excellent restaurants including Rick Stein’s and Paul Ainsworth’s.

Cycle the traffic-free Camel Trail along the estuary to Wadebridge and back, ride the waves at Constantine, Treyarnon or Harlyn Bay, or have a go at water-skiing on the estuary at Rock – there is so much to see and do in this lovely corner of Cornwall.
