  • "The accommodation and the quality of the building itself and the bathrooms, beds, fittings etc was outstanding and we greatly enjoyed our stay."

Our only gripe was having no control over the heating, whilst we were not cold we were also not warm and when returning from a cold (ish) windy walk it was not possible to warm up or dry clothes. The fan heater was used but is noisy. We would definitely miss outdoor furniture and loungers in summer, the concrete structure is a bit pointless. Also the 09.30 checkout is too early and we left the night before as a result

  • "It would have been a 5 star rating."

The house is amazing, great position just WOW. BUT! It was cold, very cold. The thermostats had been locked. We arrived Thursday, but no one to help over the weekend. Eventually got some heaters. It’s a shame as the main lounge was difficult to use. Other that that best house we have ever stayed in.

We are sorry you thought the house was “very cold”. You haven’t been the only ones to say you felt cold in the house. The house heating is set to heat the property to 21 degrees all the time, 24 hours a day. If the weather is extremely cold outside (lower than 0 degrees, which is rare for Cornwall but does happen) then an air source heat pump, which is how the house is heated, can struggle to maintain 21 degrees, all the time. But it does maintain, in those extreme circumstances, 19-20 degrees. The house is a new build “A” rated energy house. These newer homes do work differently to oil and gas heating systems that we are historically used to. Blankets have always been provided for the sitting room and the bedrooms for those that feel the cold more than others. Property Owner

The house is cold, it claims it maintains a heat of 22 degrees, it never reached this once, it was between 18 and 20 which given how cold it was outside is not ideal at all, We had to buy hot water bottles to be warm in the lounge. We have booked again but will be taking a portable heater

Thankyou for your feedback. We are glad to hear you enjoyed the property but are so sorry to hear that you had issues with the heating! The inside was very luxurious, the property was in a lovely location and it was a nice walk down into the village. The parking was also good. The only negatives would be that the TV was a bit small and it wasn't a smart TV so you couldn't get access to Netflix etc, which would have been nice on rainy days. Also, the outside of the property needs some attention/tidying up in general and the windows need cleaning. Apart from that, it was gorgeous and we are thinking of booking again for next year.

The accommodation was beyond perfect for us. High speck all the way. We enjoyed our time in Port Issac but especially enjoyed Padstow and surrounding beaches. The only suggestion we would make is to provide clear directions with an illustration of where to turn into to reach the house. The shop we were advised to look out for was obscured by a coach parked up so it took us a while to find the house. Also for fellow dog owners there is a gap at the side of the back garden for dogs to escape. So we ensured that the gap was covered. Wonderful house and fabulous memories made to take home with us. Very spacious and comfortable. Quiet location with good parking. Easy to access from main road so avoids nightmare narrow streets in the centre of Port Isaac. Close to bus stop. Comfortable beds, great showers, ample storage for clothes in the bedrooms. Shame plants obscure the views from the outside seating area. Not impressed with the air flow system as house got very hot with the windows closed, especially in the kitchen as there are no blinds to keep the sun out. Overall a great holiday experience.

  • "The property has spectacular views and the location really was a short walk to the harbour, which we did often."

We had a lovely week there. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was that the windows were filthy,. You can’t turn down the heating so we had to have all the windows open, not the downstairs bathroom window as that doesn’t open. I assume the building site scaffolding next door prevents it opening. Extraction fans don’t work in any of the bathrooms which meant the steam from the shower set the alarm off a good few times. The back gate is broken. I did try to call the property maintenance people 7 times but the phone signal is quite poor and I kept getting cut off. I am sure these are small repairs that will make a difference. This is the first rental I have stayed at that didn’t provide a welcome starter pack. You literally have to start from scratch. There wasn’t even salt and pepper in mills. Washing up liquid and surface cleaner is provided but you will only have 1” of each as this seems to be measured out. Check in is 4:30 and we arrived 40 mins early. We were hoping to just dump the cars and go for a wonder until we could gain access. The lady that was outside the property seems quite cross that we were there early, even though she said it was actually ready? I don’t understand why the check in and check out haven’t gone back to pre covid normality?

Thank you for taking the time to let us know that you had such a lovely week at the property and enjoyed the views and location so much. We appreciate you highlighting some issues which you feel could be improved on - these have been shared with the owners. We're sorry that the check-in time was miscommunicated - it should actually be 4.00pm and we have now corrected this. • "We have just returned from our stay."

The villa is beautiful. The pictures dont do it enough justice. It’s spacious and bright with fabulous views. One of our party mentioned that she was cold in the lower bedroom. I have seen other reviews mentioning the same. Although the house was consistently heated to 20C or more which my husband and i felt was more than generous. In fact i was way too hot in the night. So perhaps having a thicker duvet in the downstairs bedroom would be an inexpensive solution to keep guests on that bedroom warm. A couple of further suggestions that would make our stay even more special - more teaspoons and more bigger mugs as well as more basic kitchen utensils and perhaps some smaller bowls. One frying pan wasnt working on the induction hob. And there are no small frying pans either. It's also fairly common to have a welcome basket on arrival with milk butter bread etc and for the cupboards to be stocked with the bare essentials such as salt pepper oil etc (the pepper mill and salt shaker were empty). Also there is no sign from the road to find the house (or see it) and sykes didn’t provide any detailed directions which would have been helpful. We were also given incorrect code to get the keys and incorrect wifi code which meant we couldnt ring sykes when we found out (no signal to use data). That was pretty stressful but nothing to do with the property itself. Later check out would be better for a property of this size. 9am is way too early if you’re expected to strip beds and generally leave the house tidy. But these are just small observations not detracting from our overall stay. We would definitely recommend the place to others.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback from your stay. We are pleased to hear you found the villa to be beautiful, spacious and bright. We are sorry for the problems you experienced with the incorrect door and wifi codes being sent out, these had been changed and we neglected to update you. Please also accept our apologies if the directions to the property were not detailed enough, we do send these out a week before arrivals but will see if we can simplify these and provide a property sign for future guests. We have also amended our check out time to 9.30am so do appreciate you highlighting this to us as well as for your suggestions on improving the kitchen provisions and facilities. We are glad to see that, in spite of the above inconveniences, you would definitely recommend the property to other guests. John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

Ideal location. 5 minute walk to the center of port Isaac, 5 minute walk to the local shop. Fab local pub, there’s also a delicious fishmongers and restaurants. The views are incredible especially if it’s a rainy day and you don’t want to go out. We watched the dolphins and seals almost every day. You do need to bring things like washing/dishwasher tablets, get toilet roll, foil cling film and tea towels, but everything else is provided and the shop is very close and well stocked. The beds are really comfortable, the lower bedroom can get a bit chilly and central heating is locked on a specific temperature so bring hot water bottles if you get cold at night. The tv is small (like said in other reviews) but you really don’t go there to watch television. Truly amazing property and we will be booking again.

The build has been completed to a really high standard and the view and surrounding area are fab. The property

Perched on the cliff in Port Isaac, The Old Coastguard is a super, contemporary, reverse-level holiday home in Cornwall.

With vast sea views stretching from Lobber Point to Tintagel and beyond, this property is perfect for families, dog owners, and groups of friends looking for a Cornish coastal getaway.

On arrival, off-road parking greets you, and welcomes you into the entrance hall with plenty of storage for coats and shoes.

Head straight up to the first floor, which is sure to be the social hub of the house, due to its stunning, light-filled open-plan living space.

Magnificent, panoramic views make this holiday home stand out from the rest; sink into the huge L-shape sofa, admire the sea views, and be mesmerised by the swell of the ocean.

Dining seating for six guests makes this a unique space to plan your day's adventures, while the group's chef uses the sleek fitted kitchen to prepare a delicious meal.

Completing this floor is a cloakroom and a larder with lots of room to store your holiday treats and ingredients.

On the ground floor, a super-king-size bed rests in the largest bedroom with a very spacious en-suite bathroom with freestanding bath and walk-in shower, giving you the option of a long pampering soak after a day on the beach or a quick shower before your next excursion.

A snug twin room with dressing table and built-in wardrobe has a shower room right next to it, and heading down a few steps, there is another super-king-size bed with lovely coastal and garden views, and an attractive en-suite shower room for extra privacy.

Outside, the enclosed front garden may steal the show; with sunken seating, well-maintained flower beds, and an uninterrupted view of the picture-perfect coastlines, you'll never want to leave your new home-away-from-home.

About the location

PORT ISAAC

Polzeath 6.5 miles; Padstow 16 miles

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. There is ample parking at the top of the village and the village is a popular tourist destination with plenty of attractions including the dramatic Doyden Castle, the beautiful Lundy Bay and the famous Doc Martin's clinic. There are also plenty of pubs, restaurants, and shops in the village. Just a short drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike.

Please note- there are currently building works going on to the property next door, which includes scaffolding, building work noises and work men on site between 8am- 5pm Monday - Friday.

Note: The outside seating provided is sunken to be private and as out of the wind as is possible on such a cliff location; there are no sun loungers provided because in cliff top locations such as this any furniture not secured can be, and become, hazardous very quickly. Please do feel free to bring your own if you wish but they need turning over or putting away if is very windy, or they can be dangerous.

Note: The house does not provide a 'welcome pack' of milk, coffee, tea etc, as the owners worry that these welcome ‘gifts’ are not to everyone's taste and can therefore be environmentally very wasteful.

Note: The house heating is set to heat the property to 21 degrees all the time, 24 hours a day.
