  • "Brea Cottage is a lovely little cottage and in a fantastic location with gorgeous views."

The local pub was in walking distance with great food and welcoming locals. However, Brea Cottage needs some tlc urgently. The bathroom door is broken so could never be shut. The locks are failing on the doors resulting in us being unable to lock the back door for fear of it failing all together. The beds are very uncomfortable and the mattresses need replacing. I noticed a large orange manky piece of sponge laid on top on the double mattress! The tv remote is broken. I bought new batteries to try and it still wouldn’t work. The kitchen work surface is swollen with water as it hasn’t been sealed so smells damp. Brea Cottage has so much potential but it just needs a little work spending on it and some tlc. I would love to come and stay again, my back just needs a new mattress installing first!

  • "All good. Small characterful Cornish cottage."

Good base for exploring West (proper) Cornwall. Train to St Ives, walk to St Michael's Mount, Penzance, Hayle... Mount's Bay and St Ives' Bay; two wonders of the world. Cottage facilities good, clean and tidy. Dog happy, teenager happy, all good.

  • "The cottage was almost as described although it would be useful to add steep access steps to front door and 3ft fence bordering to a field from rear garden (more for dog owners) to house description."

Although the property was lovely and in a fantastic location the main bedroom bed needs replacing.

Enjoyed our stay, felt overall cottage looking a bit tired. Needs a more modern tv. Great for the dog .facilities were very good. Laminate on kitchen drawer needs fixing and wiring needs tidying up in longe.

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Brea Cottage."

Really liked the basket of goodies on arrival, always a welcome touch after a long drive. We had everything we needed for the stay and the location was very central for where we wanted to visit - close to Marazion, St Ives and the whole peninsula. The back garden was great for the doggies and the front decking provides a sunny space to sit too. We were without WiFi but this is likely to be up and running again by the time I'm writing this (a new router arrived during our stay).

  • "Lovely cottage, thank you for the welcome pack."

The cottage is very close to all the main holiday locations for a perfect holiday. Very clean and tidy and our little dog was more than welcome. We had a brilliant week, thanks.

  • "Not advised in advance of working internet."

Which resulted in my inability to work from the cottage as scheduled whilst parents were supposed to be exploring. Had this been advised I would have made other arrangements! This resulted on a weeks lost salary for me and a poor practice record at work for late notification t which left the team then short staffed. Plus I had to use leave later scheduled for the year so now have had to cancel my own holiday plans! Sun room covered in cobweb and dead flies on windows and ledges. Front gate does not close properly. So could not let the dog out there. Spiky plants not cut back coming up steps to property so scratched face. Shelf in bathroom rusted. Local pub has been closed down so nothing in walking distance to property so false advertising. Advert does not mention steep steps to the property. Upon advising router still not working not further feedback or apology offered. Gardens not maintained, roses not tied up so sitting on the floor, resulting in dog stepping on thorns! Front pots not taken care of, dead, empty looking so not welcoming. Frying pans in terrible condition so could not use for cooking. The lack of internet meant we could not pre book trips or research the area for activities or even takeaways (local one also closed for the week) so o had to keep going out to find and access Wi-Fi and pubs and restaurants to use their Wi-Fi to identify things for parents to do. I’m extremely disappointed as This Ruined the holiday which was a 50th wedding anniversary gift for them. I’m very disappointed so cannot recommend future bookings. Feels like owners don’t care about guests, just want the sales.

  • "Love Brea cottage, we first stayed here back in 2016 and though not much has changed in appearance it is still home from home, very well equipped and in a great location."

The out of season price is very fair for what you have available to you... our only slight issue was that the hot water seemed to drop every so often... some days it was there but others we couldn't get any ... this wasn't really an issue as there is an electric shower and the dishwasher so never really had the need use that much water anyway, this certainly didn't effect our holiday we look forward to returning again in the near future.

  • "This is a lovely cottage in a super location and provided everything we needed for our stay."

The cream tea provided as part of the welcome pack was outstanding. My only negative feedback would be on the beds. They were soft, lumpy and felt well past their best.

We loved our week here and would definitely come back! A suggestion: mattresses/beds needs replacement and blinds would be helpful with the bright morning light. With these two improvements confort will be perfect.

  • "This cottage was not how you described it on your website."

I have complained to your customer services department because we were extremely disappointed, there were many problems including poor kitchen equipment and the fact that the bathroom was joined on to the dining room, ugh! You had awarded the cottage 3 stars and we had paid the price accordingly, but this cottage was definitely NOT to a 3 star standard!

  • "We rented this property so we could complete the final stage of the St Michaels Way pilgrims walk from Ludgvan to Marazion."

For that purpose it was an excellent property. For anyone using it as a base for a general holiday they should be aware that there is a steep flight of steps to get into the property and also the stairs in the house itself are quite narrow and are equally steep. Not a problem for us but for young children or those not good on their legs we would say this property is not for them!

  • "I had stayed at this cottage before so knew what to expect and was not disappointed."

The only issue I had was not with the property but the information from Sykes. We travelled to the cottage by train and took all the additional Covid related items as directed in the emails from Sykes which resulted in additional luggage but did not need them. The cottage had towels and tea towels and oven gloves and hand sanitisers. The only thing missing was details on how we were to deal with the linen and towels on leaving the property.

The welcoming gifts were also not only a lovely touch but a most welcoming gesture. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and for a base to get around from, it was excellent. Quiet location with lots of bird song and even a surprise back garden. Would definitely stay here again & would recommend.

  • "The only thing was the steep steps up to the cottage."

We are in our 70s and trying to get cases up the steep narrow steps was a problem. This is the only entrance to the cottage and I think it should be pointed out and perhaps a hand rail fitted. Everything else was excellent.

  • "The cottage was absolutely lovely - cosy, comfortable and full of character."

It was exactly as on the listing, with the addition of a dishwasher (not mentioned) and access to beautiful walks along the public footpaths from the fields at the back. The position is ideal for reaching many attractions, beautiful beaches, interesting towns and villages and local landmarks, including St Michael's Mount. Nearby Penzance is very convenient for shops and local amenities. We loved our stay here and hope to visit again.

  • "Great little cottage in a quiet little village within easy reach of St Ives,Penzance and Lands End."

2 great pubs within a short walk from the cottage. The Star on the A30 is also a brewery so a constantly changing choice. The White Hart at the top of the hill serves a great Sunday lunch. The cottage itself has a woodburner and 4 oil filled electric radiators plus 2 towel rails in the bathroom. We visited in Feb and found the cottage warm enough without using the oil heaters as the woodburner was extremely warm. A fully equipped kitchen plus a welcome pack of milk biscuits and wine. A great holiday and a great cottage def will return.
