  • "A lovely comfortable, cosy and well equipped cottage with amazing views, great for a relaxing break away from daily life in a very quiet location on the edge of Manaccan village."

Enjoyed a number of lovely walks from the front door and time just watching nature and enjoying nothing but the sound of birdsong. Will definitely look to return in the future.

Thank you Jenny. We had a great stay, exploring the local beaches and creeks. The welcome tray was outstanding, the garden lovely and the blackberry laden garden hedge a real bonus! We also loved the artwork throughout the cottage. Thank you.

  • "Really is a picture book cottage."

The creaking floors and rattling windows all add to the character. The kitchen equipment, towels and bedding were of excellent quality. The welcome pack, including fresh flowers, was exactly that. Jenny was available promptly to assist with queries and problems. The only negative was the poor quality of the lounge seating. That and the outside furniture were past their sell by date and need replacing. It should also be noted that there is no longer a shop in the village. There are a couple of lovely walks from the village, and it is in a great location to tour the rest of the Lizard.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your positive comments, these are always appreciated. With regard to the furniture, this was chosen to fit in with an old cottage and is aesthetically interesting. We have updated the listing with regard to the local shop and look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Property Owner

Details don't mention downstairs toilet - this was a pleasant surprise on arrival. Close to local pub and lovely walks around coast and to Helford. Welcome tray was another surprise and much appreciated. Good value.

  • "Overall the cottage was warm, lots of hot water and we liked the character."

The beds were really very comfy with lovely Egyptian linen. The kitchen and front room were both spacious and comfortably fit the 6 of us, and our dog. The bath was a welcomed addition in the very spacious bathroom. We also welcomed the mince pies and wine on arrival and being allowed to check in earlier, as we had a lot of stuff (Christmas). Unfortunately, there were a few things that for us, let the cottage down, which was a real shame. The shower leaked through the floor boards, into the kitchen below. When we contacted Jenny, she was aware of it - this was pretty astounding - to let a property with a known issue. We understand cottages have character, but having 6 people showering, you loose your sense of humour mopping it up on a daily basis. Not everyone likes a daily bath. The cottage was pretty dusty, especially the carpet in the front room. Being that we were at full capacity, and it was Christmas, furniture was moved about to allow space for kids to play and for everyone to sit around together for the TV and board games. This moved a lot of dust about, and unfortunately my son suffers with dust allergies. You couldn't open the windows in this room as they were locked with a window lock key. For 6 people, there needs to be more glassware and mugs. We used all the plates, but some of these are too big and do not fit in the dishwasher. The kitchen was a nice airy space but in the cold Cornish winter the windows were incredibly difficult to open (again this was mentioned to Jenny). The back door (patio) was warped and difficult to open/lock and definitely needs some attention. A check out of 9am is incredibly early and something I had missed upon booking. We therefore left a day early, so we didn't have to get up at dawn to leave at 9am. Overall, we enjoyed having a change of scene as a family. We had some lovely walks to Helford Village. The cottage is in a little village, which was really quiet. Unfortunately, I feel it was overpriced for the issues mentioned above, as it wasn't as relaxed as we had hoped and therefore we wouldn't stay again.

Thank you for your feedback which we always welcome. We have checked the shower and can't find any leaks. The housekeeper believes that it may be guests leaving the curtain/ screen not fully across at the time of showering. The cottage's carpets were professionally cleaned before arrival and so we are slight confused as to why they would be "dusty". The windows should all open even if they are a bit "sticky" however, we will check this on change over and thank you for bringing it to our attention. Property Owner

From the look of the place, to the gorgeous welcome gift from the host.... it was really second to none. I want to thank the owner for letting us share that piece of joy. Warm, clean, comfortable and everything you needed for your stay Some of the local roads were a bit hair raising, but we found the ideal way in and out if the village. Just want to say sorry... we left the light on, but the rain had truly come in, and we were in the car. Wonderful stay, would recommend to anybody. Xx

So homely and a beautiful location. There are houses nearby but you wouldn’t know it, it’s so peaceful! The house is well equipped with plenty of space. We had to make contact about a few small things and nothing was too much trouble to get it all sorted (thank you to the lovely Jenny). The garden was perfect for our family including our dog. We will definitely be returning, we love this part of Cornwall. The only slight downside is the 6pm check in and 9am checkout but perhaps these have been imposed since the pandemic.

  • "Very pretty cottage in a very beautiful part of the world."

The garden is stunning with exceptional views and the cottage really benefits from the double doors leading out from the kitchen. We spent most of our time outside. Inside, be prepared for a typical old cottage, low ceilings and creaky floors, but this all adds to the experience. That part of Cornwall is simply stunning, you can walk from the cottage to Helford (and get the ferry over to Helford Passage), St Anthony and Flushing. We took a kayak and used it several times. It’s well placed for drives to Sennen, Kynance Cove and Portcurno, the most beautiful beaches in Cornwall. All in all a lovely week.

Easy check in and hassle free. Did not really understand why Covid would cause the check in time to move back to 6pm, surely you clean the cottages anyway? and check out by 9am. Seemed excessive and basically cuts a day off the booking.

Thank you for you feedback. We are happy to hear you loved Rose Cottage and that you have been able to enjoy the lovely views. The check in and check out times have been moved due to Covid-19 Cleaning Guidelines. Property Owner

The property

Perfect for those seeking a countryside escape, the chocolate-box 16th century Rose Cottage sits peacefully overlooking fields, just outside the sleepy village of Manaccan on the South Helford.

Absolutely charming, the cottage brims with traditional features - a thatch roof, beamed ceilings, stained glass window and an Inglenook fire place and is beautifully and thoughtfully presented.

On the ground floor, the spacious sitting room is wonderfully comfortable and welcoming, with a collection of books and board games for evenings in by the fire.

The lovely farmhouse kitchen floods with light each morning, and leads out on to the south-facing terrace and garden; a fabulous spot to sit and enjoy the views on a balmy summer's evening.

Upstairs, there are three shabby-chic bedrooms with plenty of storage, and a family bathroom with lovely freestanding, roll-top bath.

Pretty as a picture, the creeks and woodland of the South Helford offer many beautiful walks and plenty of opportunity to get out on the water.

Hire a kayak or sailboat and spend the day pootling along in the Cornish sunshine, perhaps stopping at a hidden inlet for a waterside picnic before heading home.

Or why not relax and catch the passenger ferry to Helford Passage; here you can visit the stunning sub-tropical gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan.

The village of Manaccan is home to a traditional inn and there is a shop in the village of Mawgan (approx 6 miles).

Perfectly positioned for a holiday of rest and relaxation, Rose Cottage is one to return to year after year.

About the location

MANACCAN

Helston 10 miles ; Helford 1.5 miles ; Porthallow 3 miles

The village of Manaccan on the South Helford is small and friendly, with an excellent restaurant, friendly village inn and a beautiful 12th century church. The South Helford is arguably one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of Cornwall. With meandering country roads, picturesque creeks, tidal inlets and pretty waterside villages, the area can be summed up in three words: tranquil, charming and timeless. The perfect spot for enjoying outdoor living, the South Helford’s sheltered coves were made for messing around on the water and strolling leisurely along the banks. Leave your ‘phone behind and embrace the simple pleasures - while away time paddling in the shallows, explore hidden coves with a hire boat from St Anthony, and stroll through woodland to enjoy a picnic on the beach.
