  • "We had a really comfortable stay at Brock's Barn, Sweetshouse."

The cottage was cosy and the beds especially comfortable after a day's walking. It was very welcoming upon entry to find the heating on, radio softly playing, vase of flowers on the bookshelf plus a basket of diary, cereal and bread waiting for us to start our stay. A homely touch to show the Host cares about offering the Barn for others to stay in.

A lovely, cosy and very clean holiday cottage, well placed for reaching both the West and East Coasts. A good welcome pack and milk on arrival. We very much enjoyed watching the birds visiting the bird feeder and were delighted to see the woodpecker one day!!

The cottage was very clean. Everything you need there. The only thing I would change perhaps a power shower. The location is great to get to many places. The host was on hand if you needed and was very kind during the recent storm.I would definitely stay again and would recommend to any one in the area.

  • "Home from Home We had a great time."

The cottage had everything you could possibly need - spacious, light, 2 bedrooms (used single for storing luggage, etc), 2 sofas, large kitchen with appropriate equipment, detached from owner's property so a lot of privacy. It would have been nice to have a power shower but the basic electric shower was more than adequate.

  • "Lovely cottage in a beautiful rural area, open curtains in morning and you see a variety of birds, as in woodpeckers etc, pheasants in field and deer as well."

Best nights sleep for a long time, the kitchen has all you need, nice welcome pack and lovely bathroom, the owners were lovely people who were there if you needed them, cottage central to many places to visit, if you are looking for a quiet break with no traffic noise this would be ideal.

Thank you so much for the use of the cottage. Shame about the weather, but this was a beautiful cottage and very peaceful. Michelle and husband made us feel very welcome and the basket of groceries on arrival was much appreciated. Just a suggestion - it would be good to have a small coffee table.

  • "We were a little disappointed to find there was no garden, there was a patio area but sadly it was in the shade after 11."

30 am. The cottage was situated in a very narrow lane, luckily during the whole week we didn’t meet a vehicle coming the other way except on the day of arrival when we met the school bus and a tractor!

Thank you for your feedback. Sorry you were disappointed about the garden, the proeprty does not advertise a garden there is a patio area only. The property is situated in a rural hamlet where all the local roads the same. Hope this did not impact on your stay. Many thanks. Property Owner

The barn was nicely decorated, clean and had everything you could think of, including a lovely welcome hamper on arrival. It was warm, welcoming and in a lovely quiet location. The hosts were really helpful and we very much enjoyed our stay. Although you are away from everything the location is great because most places of interest are only a short drive away. Definitely recommend!!

Off main roads, tucked away and surrounded by countryside. It's extremely quiet, wildlife is about all you hear. A traditional barn with exposed beams, the facilities are comfortable and more than adequate. We visited in February, and have been cosy and warm. I can recommend this as a beautiful cosy quiet cottage to base a holiday, we travelled as far as Porthleven on the south coast, which was an hour away.

About the location

LOSTWITHIEL

Bodmin 5.5 miles; Fowey 7 miles.

A delightfully peaceful country town, nestling in the Fowey river valley amid the woods and fields that characterise the area. Renowned as a centre for the antiques trade, there are several shops and dealers in the town, as well as a fine collection of country pubs, restaurants and a thriving farmer’s market. Lanhydrock House (NT) and gardens is just 3 miles away, while the fabulous Boconnoc House, Eden Project, shipwreck museum and tall ships harbour at Charlestown, and the picturesque fishing villages of Mevagissey, Fowey and Padstow, with the famous Rick Stein restaurants, are all within easy driving distance. The tumbling Atlantic surf, long sandy beaches and dramatic coastline of the north coast, including at the renowned Newquay, make for great days out and there is also chance to enjoy river canoeing, biking, hiking and leisurely walks in this lovely area. The friendly locals also have ongoing activities, such as the raft race, the famous tug of war, Carnival week and seagull outboard motor races. The river Fowey runs from the town on its 8 mile journey through the fields and wooded valleys to the gentler southern coast, a natural paradise for those who love the sea. Centrally placed, with much to do and see in the immediate area, Lostwithiel is the perfect choice for those seeking a break away from the hectic pace of the tourist resorts.
