This is a lovely cottage, and my family of six had a very nice holiday here. It's light and airy, and if the weather co-operates the patio is just right for having breakfast in the sun! This is a lovely cottage, and my family of six had a very nice holiday here. It's light and airy, and if the weather co-operates the patio is just right for having breakfast in the sun! On the whole, the cottage is very well appointed. I would note that the fourth bedroom - the one with the bunk beds - is quite a bit smaller than the others. It's still comfortable though. In terms of location, the cottage is well placed for access to Newquay and Padstow, and the surfing beaches in between. The local beach, Mawgan Porth, is clean and sandy. However, for the duration of our trip the surf was up the whole time. This is great for surfers and body-boarders, less good for families with smaller children, or folks who just want to swim in the sea rather than surf! There were lifeguards at the beach all week, in mid-September - kudos to RNLI for that! It is possible to walk to the beach from the cottage, but it's a choice of a steep and narrow-in-places path, or a steep road that's quite busy and lacks a safe pedestrian area. It's quite doable, but I would not have wanted to be, for example, carrying a surf board or pushing a baby buggy! Recommendations: the cliff path from the cottage to Bedruthan Steps is beautiful and has some great views, the stone-baked pizza from the Cornish Fresh store in Mawgan Porth is delicious, and the Harlyn Bay Surf School for surfing and stand-up paddle-boarding instruction.

Fitted to exacting standards, no expense has been spared at Chy Ryn.

The considerable sitting room with its beamed ceiling offers a comfortable space for the whole family to gather of an evening, with a large collection of books and films to suit all tastes.

The sunny dining room with its nautically themed knick knacks leads out on a fabulous sun terrace which catches the afternoon rays and is perfect for a summer evening’s barbecue.

The dining room also links to the kitchen – light and airy with everything you could possibly need to rustle up something tasty.

A self-contained annexe on the ground floor provides extra accommodation for two guests, with its own kitchen/sitting room and en-suite double bedroom.

Upstairs, there are three further bedrooms, one of which can be presented as either a super-king size or twin room, as well as a family bathroom.

The two main bedrooms boast access to a fantastic balcony which runs the length of the house, just above the terrace.

The garden at Chy Ryn is great for families, with a patio and large lawn where children can play whilst everyone else takes in the view from the terrace.

Perfectly located for a family holiday, Chy Ryn is just a short stroll from Mawgan Porth beach.

With its golden sand, excellent surf, plentiful rock pools and various beach cafes and waterfront inns, this beach offers all you could need for a day at the seaside.

The South West Coastal Footpath passes right through Mawgan Porth, too; pack your walking boots and explore northwards to Padstow, passing the legendary Bedruthan Steps, or southwards to Watergate Bay - home to water-sports experts, The Extreme Academy, and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Restaurant.
