  • "The lost barn was a wonderful cottage in every way."

The Wi Fi was very poor but this did not spoil the experience. Great quiet location, with great access to everywhere, we would certainly stay again.

  • "Lovely cottage in a very quiet location."

Unfortunately in my opinion it could do with a clean up and tidy, there were a large amount of weeds growing on the balcony from the front bedroom, there were a large amount of cobwebs on most of the windows and the back boors. Half way through our stay the internet stopped working so we couldn’t watch any catch up TV or use our phones or iPads and for the quite high price I would have expected a better, cleaner cottage. On a positive the welcome hamper and bottle of bubbly in the fridge was nice.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at the Lost Barn, it was an absolutely lovely place to stay and we were lucky enough to have a whole week."

Perfect location and we easily found our way around. We visited Watergate, Padstow, Newquay which were all very near. We took our 2 Frenchies and visited all the beaches which were amazing. The Lost Barn had everything your own home has. We took tea towels, kitchen sponges, dishwasher tablets etc but all was supplied for us. Bedding and towels were lovely and the house is very clean, we couldn’t fault it. Lovely little village and Phil the owner told us about the local walk which was really lovely and very close. An amazing hamper was left for our arrival and was appreciated as it had all kinds of goodies. In fact the only negative for us was the sofa. Although it looks lovely, it was a bit uncomfortable for two people wanting a lounge about afternoon in front of the tv. We would definitely go back to stay here, in fact I look for the same week next year but the dates have not been released yet, I will keep checking though:-)))))

We would love to welcome you again, thank you for your feedback, we always aim to make stays positively memorable :-) Property Owner

  • "We had a great stay at the Lost Barn."

It was impeccably clean, has comfortable beds and everything you could need. We really appreciated the hamper of Cornish goodies left for us on arrival, which we took bits and pieces from for picnics out throughout the week. The stairs are quite steep - we brought a pressure fit stair gate with us as we were visiting with our 2 year old and I’m glad we did, as it gave us extra peace of mind while he was upstairs that he wouldn’t fall and hurt himself. I wonder if this is something that could be provided by the owners in future, as a relatively cheap, simple improvement that you don’t see often in holiday cottages. The location is also brilliant. We enjoyed great days out at Heligan, Rock, Perranporth, Lappa Valley and Lanhydrock, and a fantastic meal at the St Kew Inn near Wadebridge (recommend booking ahead!). We will definitely recommend to others to stay here and would come back! Thanks!

  • "We had a lovely stay at the Lost Barn - enjoyed the property location, privacy and home comforts."

The owners clearly try to make the stay special for their guests - the welcome hamper and treats were lovely. We really enjoyed the outside spaces and the wonderful wildlife and the pond - our daughter loved looking at the fish especially! The area to improve would be the comfort of the beds and the duvets. Also, as a family with a small child - its quite stressful to ensure your lovely fluffy towels don't get toothpaste on them, and to be honest i would have preferred less expensive towels so that i would not stress about leaving them damaged in any way. We did however, appreciate that the owners were trying to make this lovely for their guests. Thank you for a lovely stay, we would definitely recommend and book again.

Thank you for your feedback. We use Vi-Spring and Hypnos beds, Laura Ashley duvets, Dorma pillows, White Company bedding and towels, these are quality products to provide comfort for all our guests, sorry if they didn’t suit you. Property Owner

  • "The property was lovely and very clean however we had a couple of small issues."

We found that some of the facilities were a little tired such as the microwave (the door button became stuck many times) and the blinds in the garden bedroom (it came unthreaded and had to be redone) We also were not send any information as to how to enter our property.... We emailed as we're were told to do with a time of our arrival but no one responded and we didn't know the keycode to enter property which resulted in us knocking on next door to ask how they had got in. As it happened the keycode was still plumbed in to the keysafe but this was not ideal when it was 6.30pm and we had waited all day to arrive. We then had to go and get shopping afterwards. As we were not personally met I do believe that an earlier let in time would've been better. Lastly providing some basics such as sugar, binbags would've been helpful as lovely as it was to have tea and coffee pods and some milk, we couldn't use them until we had been shopping. Overall the stay was lovely but not ideal for family's as there isn't really an outdoor area for them to play in and being so isolated means that there are no parks nearby. They did enjoy the pillow chocolates and thought the place was lovely to stay in as did we.

Thanks for your feedback which we discussed with the owner of Lost Barn. A welcome email was sent to you prior to your stay from the owners, which we understand went to your junk mail. The key safe was intentionally left on the open setting for your arrival as no contact had been made from yourselves. Post covid the owners do not supply any common use supplies, the hamper which was left for you had biscuits sweet and savoury, coffee pods, Cornish tea, bottle of champagne, scones, cream, Boddingtons strawberry jam, Kernow chocolate, Cornish pilchards and milk. At least two black refuse sacks plus kitchen bin bags, dishwasher tablets, hand soap, washing up liquid, cling film, tin foil, complimentary toiletries, robes and towels. The outdoor area is just under 1 acre of grounds including lawn, pond and orchard. Property Owner

The accommodation was spotlessly clean as well as being beautifully and comfortably furnished. The owners went above and beyond with their generous and tasty welcome pack which not only contained a cream tea but a chilled bottle of champagne and chilled glasses in the fridge to celebrate our arrival in style. Every room was beyond expectation - fresh flowers in the lounge, beautiful toiletries for the bathroom, fabulous bathrobes on the bed along with a generous chocolate bar for each guest on the pillow.

All the furnishings, appliances, linen etc were good and the welcome hamper very generous. The one negative (which wasn't very important to us) was that the internet connection was not as good as the smart TV - so watching programmes on the internet didn't really work as the connection kept dropping out

Thanks so much for your comments. We are delighted to hear your positive thoughts on Lost Barn. The internet did not work but luckily we were able to piggy back on the Wi-fi from next door. The windows weren’t clean and had a lot of cobwebs around them (outside); plus the balcony had weeds everywhere. Not sure if this was due to the owners having the property up for sale but it did feel like they’d given up on the outside areas somewhat.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your time at Lost Barn. • "Pro’s:The property was easy to find and close enough to Newquay with a nice pub nearby at Quintell Downs (Booking a must!"

). The facilities were great a nice welcome pack, parking was good, quite remote so dog walking was easy. Allowing the dogs was the important thing too. The Cast Iron bath and bed/bedding was luxurious. Cons: Really small things which could be easily improved. The heating for us was a little high but this I is a personal preference and opened windows when we needed as we couldn’t find the heating instructions. The shower tray filled quite quickly and there was no water pressure regulator so had to stop the shower intermittently, ideally the drain needed clearing or a adjustable valve be fitted. TV was outdated with an array of remote controls. Ideally get a Smart TV with Satellite built in. Would definitely book again.

Owner Response** We are delighted you enjoyed the holiday and would happily book with us again. There are thermostats in every room so you can control the heating. If we had known the shower wasn't draining correctly we could have remedied during your stay but thank you for letting us know, this has now been resolved. The TV is a 42" Samsung flat screen, has a sound bar and due to our location Freesat is necessary in order to get service, there is also a NOW TV stick installed to give maximum viewing choice to guests, we look forward to welcoming you again soon. • "This is a lovely property and location in Colan."

Easy accessible to many places. The owners were lovely to meet when we first arrived. I do however think a few things were miss leading. The property is dog friendly which is fantastic but the open garden isn’t ideal when it leads to the road. As lovely as the garden is, it’s potentially an issue. There were also dogs locally that would use this garden too! Again not ideal as they would do their mess in it! We didn’t use our small space with patio furniture due to dog mess that wasn’t picked up all week. Also miss leading were words like visit the paddock and orchard?. Didn’t see these!. The lovely bedroom with doors that can open, couldn’t be due to the Bee’s. A few tweaks to this holiday let would make it perfect.

We are pleased you enjoyed the property, we have natural borders and the gateway to the country lane is open for guest convenience. All dogs are welcome and if they are trained to voice command leads are not necessary. We have an employed gardener who regularly checks the garden, if we know there is an offending deposit we will always deal appropriately. The protected honey bees have never caused incident in their 20 years residence. The orchard, currently in fruit and 3 acre paddock are at the top of the garden Property Owner

The garden was therefore unusable for us, unless we had the dogs on leads and then we don’t relax and neither do the dogs. When on holiday we usually spend a lot of time outside but we felt confined to the indoors staying here. Lost barn itself is lovey, very comfortable, bright and airy. The hamper, cream tea and champagne on arrival were great, the owners who live on the property are very friendly. Nothing has been skimped in the cottage, it is well equipped with good quality furnishings. The beds especially, very comfortable. This is a lovey area, very quiet but lots to do and see close by.

We visited Padstow, polperro, port Issac, Newquay St Ives, perranporth, looe, Land’s end, watergate bay, Mousehole, ideal location for trips out. The kitchen facilities and the bathroom were excellent, the bedrooms were lovely and the ambience was great. I wonder if a couple of constructive (hopefully) comments would be valuable. The sitting room is large enough to take some armchairs rather then the L-shaped sofa and the chaise longue. It was difficult to get comfortable on the former, but we were only two people. If four were staying, the sofa would be cramped and impossible to watch TV, for instance as the head of one person would always be in the way of another. The second comment would be for the owners to make the garden more secure with a surrounding wire fence. That way, dogs could be let out without the owner having to accompany them for a late-night pee. Just two small comments to round off a great stay. Thanks a lot to all those responsible.
