  • "The house really smelled musty, dead bugs in the cutlery draw, squashed fly stuck to roller blind, bedding cupboard locked open (couldn't close) spare bedding looked like it had been thrown in, didn't look clean."

Lovely area, the house was warm and dry, just out-dated decor.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. Had we been made aware of these issues during at the time of your stay, we would have done all we could to rectify things for you during your stay. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is probably one of the best we have stayed in, the cooking equipement is well stocked and of a decent standard, the towels and bedding were all of excellent quality."

Our only suggestion is that the owner maybe provide at least some information regarding the local area. We could have done with a map of the local foot paths, the bus timetables and shop opening hours.

  • "Firstly couldn't get tv to work."

Owner not helpful on phone so we sorted ourselves. Clean, comfortable and well furnished but no salt, pepper, oil, milk, coffee, tea or any other welcome pack. Also no folder with info about area and no visitor book. These are things we have, maybe wrongly, have come to expect. Also garden furniture in storage so we had to assemble outside. Made visit seem very impersonal and not what we have experienced before.

We are sorry to hear that you had a problem with the television. The TV has been checked and no problems have been raised since. We will look to arrange for an information folder to be provided. The outdoor furniture is kept under a cover to protect it from the rain, and can be assembled as required. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was clean and tidy when we got there."

The only 2 things that let it down was the musty smell inside the cottage, you could smell it as soon as you opened the cottage door. The other thing that let it down was there wasn't a welcome package (bottle of milk, teabags, biscutes etc) which we have received in all other cottages that we have stayed and would have been gratefully received after travelling for 6 hrs. Good location for exploring the different places around Cornwall and lots of happy memories made.

  • "The cottage was fabulous - comfortable, clean, well stocked."

There was just one problem. When we arrived only 3 of the 4 beds were made up. We booked this cottage particularly because it had 4 beds for the 4 people in our party, but the owner assumed that 2 of our party would be happy to bunk up together and was rather grumpy when we rang to enquire about extra bedding. He suggested we should have told him in advance that we needed all 4 beds. He may even have been after extra money - which was surprising as the cottage was expensive and the beds were photographed as being made up and available. Luckily the cleaner, who lives next door, was friendly and made up the 4th bed in no time.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are sorry if it was not clear on the website that if you should require the single bed in the double bedroom to be made up that this has to be by request and is at a charge of £50. The wording on the website has been amended in the hope that this makes it clearer and easier to understand what is required. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and we hope that we might welcome you back at a future date. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was in lovely peaceful hamlet, ten minutes walk to Maenporth beach."

There was a patio set which you coukd take out and sit in front of the house and although it fronted the road there wasn much traffic and the sunsets were fantastic. Would have been nice to have a pint of milk and some tea bags after a long drive and with the local shop closed. This is the first property that hasn't done that. Also, if being picky a welcome booklet rather than pinning laminated sheets on the toilet door.

The property had everything that you would need for a nice quiet holiday, and it is very well equipped. Both my wife and I found the bed extremely comfortable and we had some good days out away from the cottage, even in the biblical rain that we had on two of the days!!! Thanks, we will look to return in the future. Jane and Simon

  • "Our third visit to Nanparra which says volumes."

We always find new things to do and thoroughly enjoy visiting a lovely part of Cornwall even if wet . This time it was very wet but didn't stop our enjoyment at all. Very comfortable as well equipped cottage. DVD player not mentioned in listing details so do take your favourites for nights in. Word of caution about the pub in Mawnan Smith. We decided to wander up one evening arriving by eight to find it had already closed ! Seems if they are quiet they close at whatever time suits them as had driven past returning to Nanparra after days out at similar times to also find lights out . Very likely to return to the cottage again.

Thank you for your feedback, we are so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. We are sorry to hear about the pub and it's reduced opening hours and hope this did not effect your stay too much. We hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

It was beautifully warm on every evening when we returned from cold endeavours. The initial directions were somewhat confusing and it took us a while to find the cottage along the road. An approximate distance from the village shop would have been most helpful! Otherwise we had a fantastic time and would recommend a stay in Nanparra. We’d also recommend a fantastic eaterie in Falmouth: The Wilder Kitchen at 48 Church St and also, Dark Pony Coffee outside the bus station. Superb Flat Whites!

It is a wonderful 15 minute walk down to Maenporth Beach via a quiet path very close to the cottage and the breakfast rolls at the cafe are superb. These set you up perfectly for continuing to walk along the coastal path to Falmouth and back again (if you are energetic enough ) . Alternatively catch the bus back to Mawnan Smith from Falmouth town centre. This passes the cottage and if you ask the driver nicely it will stop within yards of the front door.

    - in Mawnan Smith. There are a myriad of footpaths close to the cottage. One of which takes you to Maenporth beach - a 15 minute stroll away. It is a pity that there is not an information book available in the property as it would be useful for those not as familiar with the area as we are. We were lucky to have experienced gorgeous weather during our stay at Nanparra, and much appreciated the outside seating on the terrace. Not sure why no mention is made in the property description of the downstairs loo... a very useful addition!

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We have added the downstair toilet to the property summary. So pleased the weather was kind for you,we hope to be able to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

The roads are very winding and are not lit at night and you need to know which direction to take. The cottage we felt needed double electrical sockets and better lighting in the bedrooms and maybe updating in the kitchen area. Downstairs toilet was a bonus, but a very roomy cottage and peaceful.

Very clean. It is a lovely quiet location, only 15 minutes walk from the beach and coastal path. It's also on a bus route between Falmouth and Helston, which we found very useful. You can walk the coastal path in either direction and get the bus back. It would have been nice to have more outside space, but the little patio (at the front) does get the evening sun. On the downside, the decor and carpets looked rather tired and dated. It is a very pretty and cosy little cottage, that would really benefit from updating the kitchen, bathroom, carpets and decoration. Having said that, we still really enjoyed our time at the cottage.

A bonus was the fact despite its relatively quiet location it lies on an excellent bus route between Falmouth and Helford Passage. You could actually holiday there without a car. Why the owners and Sykes Cottages don't advertise this facility I don't know. What I didn't like was the fact that the heating system can't be controlled from within the cottage, but only by the owners. In other words, every time you want to alter the temperature you have to contact them.

Thank you for taking the time for leaving your feedback and we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed Nanparra Cottage and the local area. While the heating can be controlled externally, it can also be adjusted easily using the dial inside the cottage, so no need to request this with the owners. Property Owner

Also the property sadly had a strong damp smell, especially on walking in downstairs. Otherwise it was well equipped (though lacked a full length mirror), tastefully decorated and generally cosy. Had off road parking which was welcomed and essential. A short walk from Mawnan Smith and the red lion pub. Also 20 min walk from Maenporth beach. Not too much else nearby we found.

The rear of the property isn't detailed on the listing and is not accessible for guests. The owner will consider adding a full length mirror for 2020. There was a leak in the boiler housed in the garage during the season which was fixed but left a smell which has now dissipated. Property Owner

  • "We did have an enjoyable week in spite of a very disappointing first impression, but it took some determination and positive thinking."

There were roadworks 100 metres awsy, a bit of a sell( turned out from the oil central heating,) , and the beds were very very hard. One of the single beds was slightly softer than the double so I used that. Keeping windows open and the door to the boiler room shut dealt with the smell, but allowed in the noise! So the workmen turned up at 7.30 am Monday to Friday, starting the diggers or other machinery just before 8am. The roadside front sitting area was the only outside space, but imposible to use in the day. It was nice at the weekend and after 5pm, so we just had to get out during the day. We did like some attractions nearby, especially Trebah Gardens and Helford Pasdage and luckily the weather was ok. The roadworks are due to finish by the end of September, so that will probably be ok but I think it was wrong not to warn us or give a discount.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. Overall we're very pleased that you had an enjoyable week but so sorry that you were disturbed by the nearby roadworks. These sprung up unexpectedly at extremely short notice in order to repair a collapsed duct. We apologise for the inconvenience this caused you. Property Owner
