  • "Lovely and warm on our arrival, weather was hideous!"

Cream tea a lovely touch. Well equipped and beds comfy. Parking is an issue, don't rely on the landlord to allow you to park in the pub carpark (as listed)! He has stated that he wants to stop people other than patrons to use it. We were lucky as we were visiting friends who cleared our path! At a push I would recommend the little garden be tidied up, the 'boxing in' in the bathroom needs attention, WiFi and a tumble dryer.

  • "The cottage was warm, comfortable and well equipped."

A good location - we enjoyed our stay despite variable weather.

  • "The cottage is very cosy but there were a few problems, the key fob is v difficult to open and so is the front door."

The fridge and freezer desperately need defrosting. We arrived after a 10 hour journey to find the hot water switch was off so we had no hot water! A washer dryer or at least some more pegs would have been appreciated. We were amazed that in 2019 the cottage had no Wifi. On the plus side the beds were very comfy and the cream tea was lovely.

** Owner Response - we are so pleased you enjoyed the comfy beds and complimentary welcome cream tea. The neighbours are extremely helpful and friendly and I understand helped you operate the keysafe. We have raised the housekeeping oversights and are assured this was a blip not to be repeated, they have also replace the pegs. We try and keep our Grade 2 listed cottage as authentic to give guests the opportunity to explore the incredible scenery and beauty of Cornwall free from the constraints of an ever-more electronic world. • "We were unable to operate the key pad on arrival, Sykes were very helpful and asked neighbours to help out which was great."

Unfortunately we had to contact Sykes again as we could not open the back door to put the rubbish out in the recycling bins, Sykes were not quite so helpful with this, we felt we were being a nuisance. We were told the neighbours could help, which they did but we felt embarrassed bothering them over the Christmas period especially as they had visitors.

** Owner Response - Thank you for your understanding, unfamiliar locks can be a challenge, it is difficult for remote staff to advise on a practical issue when on the end of a phone, fortunately our kind neighbours were on hand to assist. Property Owner

  • "Our experience with booking through Sykes was unsatisfactory."

Initially we wanted to change to another Sykes cottage but we’re told that we would loose the Tregean cottage deposit! On the day of travel we received a call to say that the cottage would not be ready until 7 in the evening but that Sykes would pay for a meal. As we were bringing our dog, eating out was not part of our plans. On arriving at the cottage it smelt damp and unpleasant. There was a lot of recycling in the courtyard garden (which was eventually dealt with by the neighbour, not Sykes). Clothes were left in the drawers from the previous occupier, obviously the cleaners had not checked. The bath mat, tea towels (only 2!) and bathroom towel were thrown on the bedroom chair. There is only one bedside lamp in the master bedroom. The bedside lamp in the single bedroom is nowhere near the bed. There is no hairdryer. I spoke to a Sykes represent when we arrived but didn’t receive a call back or any further contact, apart from copious regurgitated emails offering more holidays. Please compensate for the delayed arrival time and remove me from your mailing list.

  • "A WiFi would really be appreciated!"

Also the cottage was not quite as clean as I would have liked. There was an awful smell in the kitchen when we arrived, we discovered the next morning that this was due to stale and dirty water being left in the dishwasher which hadn't been allowed to drain.

  • "Fabulous spot, lovely cottage, warm and cosy."

Pub with a dartboard nearby. I give it 10/10!

  • "Yes. The cottage was very clean and well equipt, however, the single beds weren't as comfortable as they should be."

They are probably fine for children, but not for adults. Also there was no recycling bins for household waste ( just one general refuge bin) which was heart breaking. As it was Christmas there was plenty of recycling waste!. We made around trip journey of 18 miles to find somewhere to recycle our cardboard, glass, plastic and cans etc. The food waste had to go into the one bin provided. We would really love to stay at this cottage again, if these two issues could be addressed.

About the location

SENNEN

Land’s End 1 mile; St Just 5 miles; Penzance 9 miles.

The most westerly village in mainland Britain, Sennen has a lovely mile-long beach of pure white sand and is a very popular holiday destination. With excellent surfing conditions, the village has its own surf school – overlooked by a super-cool beach bar/restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows which make the most of the wonderful views. Once a hub of smuggling activity, Sennen still retains many secret passages – one of which is said to lead to the covered well in the Old Success Inn. Largely unchanged over time, this lovely village has a timeless appeal and is home to a gallery, a medieval church, an Iron Age fort and a small selection of shops where you can buy beachware, gifts and souvenirs, and a range of groceries. There is also a weekly Farmers’ Market in the village Community Centre each Tuesday morning. During the summer, the beach bar becomes a hub of activity and entertainment, with live music, weekly barbecues and popular surfing competitions.
