  • "The cottage location is fantastic but the compromise is the noise ."

Street cleaners & early deliveries wake you every morning. It is on a main run through the village so is always busy . The bedrooms were roomy but the lounge area is not. The outside space although welcomed was a bit smelly and dark and there are windows from another property at ground level which open onto it. Cushions locked away somewhere. The tv is very small & difficult to use and there is only one in the whole house. The shower cubicle needs attention and the maserator is very noisy. The beds are basic but ok. On stripping the beds one of the mattresses in the first floor bedroom was dreadfully stained! In the 30’s temperature wise & only 2 fans. No hairdryer Only one key so need to use keysafe every time. Kitchen good but hardly used so can’t comment on cooker etc.

Thank you for your review, great to hear our cottage is fantastic. Our cottage is in a working fishing village and with that comes activity, we personally do not get woken by the noise and not to take away your experience , this is only the second comment we have about noise in 3 years. Mevagissy is a thriving village and busy harbour and therefore has excellent ammenities. We are fortunate to offer outdoor space which is unusual in Mevagissy and so the quaintness that comes with the space, amongst iggldy piggldy houses means our garden is overlooked. We would also like to point out that part’s of the house and outdoor space are over 200 years old and we believe this adds to the quirkiness of the cottage. We apologise if you could’nt find the cushions for the garden furniture , they are in the table/ box outside and this information is written in our welcome pack. We, or our housekeeper ( we provide both numbers ) would of been more than happy to answer your questions about this, just as we did , when supporting you to use the TV and to answer your query as to why we don’t provide a hairdryer. We include photographs of all rooms on our pages and through sykes and there is a clear inventory about what we do provide. We have always had very positive feedback about the comfort and cleanliness of our beds, we are extremely shocked about your comments, I personally changed the beds prior to your arrival and did not note any issues, we will however, now check them thorougly. We would of been more than happy to talk to you about any concerns directly as a score of 56 does not reflect your opening comment that the cottage is fantastic Property Owner

  • "More than one key would of been better and the lounge and dinning room very small for 4 people"

Thank you for your response, we provide one key and a key safe but will consider providing a second key. We have provided seating for six people downstairs and our photographs and information reflect this We hope you had a good holiday Thanks again Property Owner

  • "Great cottage to use as your base for exploring Cornwall."

We've stayed many time in mevagissey but this is far the best cottage to meet our needs with our son and daughter being young adults now. Kitchen is well stocked. Having the patio door open to the garden was a god send in the hot weather we had. Only thing I would say is maybe if they had a welcome pack to explain about a few things. Not a massive problem as we messaged the number given regarding what to do with our rubbish, who replied the following day. Having two bathrooms was a plus too, especially after a day at the beach to reduce the arguments of who is showering first :) will definitely stay again

Thank you for the lovely feedback and comments, we are really sorry about the Welcome pack a complete oversight on our part. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is right in the centre of Mevagissey which is a lovely area to stay."

Lots of little shops, bars and restaurants, stunning beaches near by and wonderful walks. Also highly recommended a visit to Fowey, there is a 30 minute boat trip from Mevagissey harbour. (Although probably best to avoid in peak times, I can imagine it get very busy) The cottage it self was nice and is equipped with everything you need and spaced over 3 floors. Although it held some period features it did lack character in some rooms (no open fire or original flooring, modern but outdated kitchen and bathrooms) It has been decorated and furnished nicely with sea side knick-knacks displayed throughout the cottage giving it a holiday feel. Only 3 star rating due to the fact we were awaken every single morning of our 7 night stay at 5:30am! Understandably, the cottage is right in the centre of Mevagissey on the main road in to the village so will not the the most peaceful of locations BUT the modern windows installed although double glazed have not been fitted very well and offer no sound protection against from the roadside. We experienced daily bin collections and delivery trucks to the commercial establishments near by and then later in the morning the very thorough village road cleaner who drags his wheelie bin up and down the road passed the cottage until the cars and visitors start coming through. Owners say they have never had any complaints before so maybe if you sleep like the dead it may not be an issue but bring your ear plugs as a back up. On a plus note, the memory foam beds are very comfortable! it just would have been nice to spend longer in them. Also the cottage had a little courtyard garden which would be nice to use if it was cared for a little more. Coming from a coastal area myself I completely understand the annoying factors of seagulls and how messy (and noisy) they are. This should not mean that the court yard is left uncleaned before the next guests arrive. The whole area and furniture was completely obliterated in seagulls waste along with 2 huge smelly bin bags of previous guests waste. Hosts did arrange for rubbish to be eventually collected and on day 3 said they would get someone to clean the court yard but I feel these things should have been addresses before we arrived. Ideal space clean or not for the dog to go outside in which is the only time we used it. We have used Sykes cottages before and found that previous hosts (and during Covid times too) have gone that extra little mile and popped a bunch of daffodils in a vase or left a locally made cake or loaf for guest on arrival or just a nice simple well wishing note as a nice touch for arriving guests.

  • "Had a fantastic week."

Home from home, the cottage had absolutely everything you could want (apart from egg cups!!). Apart from that the cottage was amazing and the proximity to shops etc was amazing. Loved the new outside fairy lights, added a lovey touch to the atmosphere in the evenings. Even my teenage son who didnt want to come away enjoyed himself!! Definitely will be back and will recommend to family and friends.

  • "Following midweek contact regarding previous tenants rubbish and promises that it would be removed this was not done couldn’t put outside due to seagull sack being full of previous occupants rubbish."

Walk in shower head collasped and button flush in toilet kept sticking. The worse problem was that the cottage had very poor clothes drying facilities, due to very heavy rains frequently there was no facility to dry our clothes. Overall not a good experience.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us. We recognise the weather was particularly wet the week you stayed, we do provide an airer along with fast acting electric heaters as the village does not have mains gas but apologize if these did not meet your needs. We take the situation with bin and rubbish collection very seriously, we sincerely apologise and want to assure you we will be addressing the issue so this does not happen again. Thanks again, feedback is always valued and assists us in making changes, learning and helps us improve your experience. Property Owner
